I am NOT a Returns fan, I prefer the entire Nolan trilogy over Burton BUT I do like Keaton and I must say, with the cowl, his eyes, the way they move, his overall glare is so intimidating and creepy compared to Bale's. Keaton's is more subtle and comes off more like the classic silent Batman who barely speaks.

Something I've always wondered is how the Returns Batmobile is different from the original 1989 one...
According to interviews with the prop department they restyled it slightly but I don't see any difference at all.
Do you guys know what was changed to its appearance (except for the Batmissile transformation and revamped shields) ?

^ It's hard to tell too because every scene with the Batmobile is during night scenes that I couldn't tell the difference, even the various Hot Wheels, ERTL die-cast vehicles released in the years have all shared the same mold of '89 and '92.

I see... Maybe the look and shape of the car wasn't changed at all then...
Maybe the changes they were talking about were just the new gadgets and the restyling of the cocoon shields...

My entry into Batman fandom; Batman Returns. Unforgettable summer of '92.

I always thought the car looked more black in colour and less matte (more glossy) on the finish in the 2nd film...?

Pretty sure nothing changed on the Batmobile for Returns. Whenever I come across books, articles or anything like that on the Batmobile they go from th '89 Batman Batmobile and skip straight to the Batman Forever Batmobile.

I guess that article has a point-ish? I dunno, could go into detail more. But by god the puns in that trailer ugghhhhh makes me want to kill someone.

Yeah it was an interesting read. I wanted to watch Returns after reading it... settled for the embedded trailer, and really wish I didn't, haha.

They changed a few things, streamlined some stuff/cleaned up it's edges and body lines, like someone said-paint was better, added "gadgets", etc.

Very minimal... yes, but they did tweak it.

haha, love this:

Not all of Strick’s abridgements went so seamlessly. A lot of explanatory material came out — like a scene showing how Shreck’s Department Store could host a costume ball right after Catwoman blew its ground floor to kingdom come. ”The movie was just so crammed with stuff that I tried to connect as many dots as I could,” Strick says.

yeah or these...

the executives moved on to other worries, namely the Burton’s ability to tell a coherent story. Ever since Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985), Burton has shown a cheery disdain for logical plotting, and he had no intention of changing his style

Burton? Tell a coherent story? ah hahahaha

”I was going to be the first screenwriter to give Tim Burton a great story — three acts, bam-bam-bam,” says screenwriter Dan Waters (Heathers, Hudson Hawk). ”But after the first couple of weeks with Tim, you realize it’s not going to happen. He just doesn’t think that way. He operates on this abstract, associative level. It’s like, ‘Put the helmet away, Luke, and use the Force!”’

Yeah, this film had no acts, more like random **** happens.

Strick began by pruning Waters’ script of scenes that he and Burton found too wild, including several self-doubting diatribes from Batman and some of Catwoman’s militant calls to feminist anarchy. It wasn’t long, however, before Strick found himself lopping out chunks of story purely to save time and money.

Of course cut out Batman material, it's not like it's his movie. I would have killed for more Batman material instead of DeVito. And this feminist anarchy? Haha, wtf, seriously? So this film taught an important lesson in Hollywood - story < time & money.

Found this old EW article the analyzes the struggles and ultimate disappointment that came with this movie. Few tidbits in here I was unaware of.

"Unhappy Returns"
http://www.ew.com/article/1992/07/31/unhappy-returns

Renee Greene of Chicago says, ”In fact, nothing made sense. I’ll never see a Batman movie again.”

”It made me sort of sick,” says Greene’s 9-year-old son, Michael.
:hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:

Give me a break...

That's amazing.
