If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich? - another great one

Perchance to Dream is amazing.

I guess I'll do like Kane and do 5 for the TAS series, and 5 for the TNAS series.

TAS:
  • Almost Got 'Im
  • Trial
  • Dreams in Darkness
  • The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne
  • Riddler's Reform

TNBA:
  • Never Fear
  • Over the Edge
  • Joker's Millions
  • Old Wounds
  • Mad Love

I'm surprised there's no love for Over The Edge,I thought it was very well done and the story was awesome.

My #2!

With plenty of amazing episodes, I guess it's hard to really pick every outstanding episode.
And I appreciate the variety.

I also loved Blind as a Bat. So much tension and Batman never gets a break in that episode.

^ That was a terrific episode. Written by one of Batman's long term comic book writers, Len Wein. Great idea seeing Batman deal with a handicap like that, while the city was facing a deadly threat that he had to stop. I loved Penguin's aviator look lol;

The whole pilot sort of look that his crew went under in the episode fit the story, and actually the aviator look fits Penguin so well, especially considering it’s an aerial-oriented story and his obsession with birds.
Also, I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but the line, “As of this moment, the most dangerous bird in the sky is the Penguin! Wahahaha!” Is not only great, but hilarious considering the flightless bird alias.

Like I stated a couple of pages ago, I am rewatching B:TAS in chronological order. Last time I saw this series was probably about a decade ago. I've just recently finished up season 1 and about to start season 2, however, in my appreciation of this awesome show and to maybe generate some discussion, I'm going to do episode by episode reviews. Before I start viewing the second season, I'll finish my write-ups for the first.

Ok, here goes:

On Leather Wings: I enjoy the fact that this first episode skips the origin story and has our hero already established. It features a Dr. Jekyl/Mr Hyde bat-like monster as the antagonist and it draws some nice parallels between the creature and Batman. The episode also begins to show Bruce's skills as a ladies man...Nice :cwink:. I've said this before in a previous post, I'm not educated in Batman comics and so I've never heard of this villain before. Is he a villain from this comics or was he created for this show? Regardless, this episode is a great start to the series.

Christmas with the Joker: Not wasting any time we get our first Joker episode. Not my favorite outing with him from this season but still pretty good nonetheless. I'd imagine this would be a good episode to watch along with some other holiday episodes from other shows to get one into the spirit of the season. So, here, Joker goes on his own created TV show to cause what else, havok in Gotham. Not anything truly creative but it's worth a few good laughs. We also get to see Robin for the first time. But the best part of the episode was Joker's awesome yet silly punchline to Batman. lol. It's amusing that the entire episode is essentially Joker scheming just to get to play out a joke on Bats. But this is why I love the Joker.

Nothing to Fear: Scarecrow has always been a favorite of mine amongst the Bat rogues and so I was glad to see him being featured in such an early episode. Also, happens to be the best episode so far. In this episode we find Scarecrow wanting revenge on the University that kicked him out because of his inhumane experiments being performed on people involving their fears. The best parts about the episode include a look at Scarecrow's origins (question for the Bat-fans, does this mirror his origin from the comics?), a great look into the psyche of Bruce Wayne and a very epic climax involving a blimp. Love this episode.

The Last Laugh: Another Joker episode. In this one, Joker uses a laughing gas to go on a crime spree. I definitely liked this over the X-Mas episode yet I know there are even better Joker ones yet to come. I've come to love the Joker as a villain but honestly there wasn't a whole lotta substance here. It could have used a little more depth I suppose but still Hamill's Joker sells it and I'm buying. The final chase dragged on a bit.

Pretty Poison: This episode felt short for some reason. Maybe it's that it was so straightforward and not much to it, frankly. Poison Ivy makes her debut and is seeking revenge against Harvey Dent for his prison he had constructed on a bunch of flowers. Ivy is very easy on the eyes, of course and I gotta say, I am really digging this iteration of her. Subtle but strong. Pretty average episode though.

Heh, I'm not a fan of On Leather Wings. It's one of the very few episodes I don't like watching. I'm not a Man-Bat fan.

Man-Bat first appeared in Detective Comics #400 (June 1970) and was created by Frank Robbins and Neal Adams.

''On Leather Wings'' was the character's first appearance outside of the comic medium.

And Christmas with the Joker was the 2nd episode production wise, however it didn't air until later when Joker was already established.

Yep. ''Joker's Favor'' was a much better intro episode anyway.

Kevin Conroy's personal favorite.

I can see why. As much as I love the villain centric episodes, I love the Bruce-centric ones even more, and Conroy had so much to work with in this episode. I imagine a "Perchance to Dream" scenario for almost every version of Batman, lol.

 Thank you, good sir.

Did not know this. Did some checking and Christmas with the Joker was the 38th episode to air. Interesting. I'd probably have enjoyed this episode a bit more with it being further down in the line up and not being the intro to the Joker. It makes more sense being 38th imo.

I think "On Leather Wings" is a pretty solid episode.

My favorite is "The Laughing Fish."

Must be a relief for you that he was only in two episodes, Trav.

Yeah, he said he basically got to voice three characters in that episode. Batman, the 'other' Batman, and Thomas Wayne. Conroy was basically 75% of the episode's characters.

This had one of Mad Hatter's best moments, too. The angry tearful breakdown he has at the end when he explains why he did what he did.

That's an interesting point. Is there any line or lines delivered by Conroy that people feel didn't work, or was delivered badly?

This might be blasphemy but I always thought "I am vengeance...I am the night...I am...BATMAN!" was hilariously over the top and melodramatic.

I mean, it totally works, but it still always cracks me up. It's how I would imagine Adam West would sound like if he tried to go dark, haha.

I hate that line. I should throw that into the unpopular opinions thread. It's so over the top and cheesy. Maybe not the line itself but the delivery. It's totally dark Adam West.
