I was on vacation with family last week and had to watch GGG-Jacobs through less honorable sources. I didn’t bother scoring, so my opinions on this fight are suspect.
On the stream I felt Jacobs edged the win just based on my own mental scorecard. Watching it again, in HD, I think Golovkin’s work was cleaner for the majority of the fight. I don’t score fights after the fact, because it’ll always be influenced by outside opinion, but I can see how you could score this fight for either fighter.
That being said, all respect in the world to Daniel Jacobs. Even though I think GGG was technically superior, Jacobs looked much better prepared tactically and strategically. He also took some very good punches during the fight and not only survived them but answered them.
I feel that the closeness of this fight is more attributable to Jacobs than any decline in GGG. I think Golovkin looked sharper in this fight than in his last two appearances, but Jacobs stayed disciplined and defensively responsible throughout the entire fight.
Also, the Chocolatito fight was very exciting but I disagree with the decision. A bad way to lose an undefeated record, but Gonzalez doesn't seem like the type to let it effect him too much. If anything I think the division will be what gets him; It's hard to pressure the way he does without having the power to put someone away.
