The Official Choose A Director Thread

man it would be sweet to see someone like spielberg doing a comicbook movie like superman.

if Clash of the Titans becomes very popular and makes a lot of money could he get the superman movie?

Louis Leterrier would be a good choice for me. I thought the Incredible Hulk was fantastic.

In all honesty, the realistic choice is obviously going to be Jonathan Nolan. Big brother is The Godfather here. It all adds up quite nicely, btw!

Batman Begins (2005): David S. Goyer (story) >> Christopher Nolan/Goyer (screenplay) >> Directed by Christopher Nolan

The Dark Knight (2008): Christopher Nolan/David S. Goyer (story) >> Christopher Nolan/Jonathan Nolan (screenplay) >> Directed by Christopher Nolan

Batman 3 (2011/2012): Jonathan Nolan (story) >> Jonathan/Christopher Nolan (screenplay) >> Directed by Christopher Nolan.

The Man of Steel (2012): Christopher Nolan (producer) >> David S. Goyer (story) >> David S. Goyer/Jonathan Nolan (screenplay) >> Directed by Jonathan Nolan

And I don't think Louis Leterrier will direct Superman if Clash of the Titans does well in the Box Office. IMO he's got his eyes and Marvel's got their eyes set on a much bigger project. Louis Leterrier Considers Directing The Avengers

If Clash doesn't do well, then he'll be out and if that happens... Why would we want him anywhere near Superman? The next director will most definitely NOT come from the Marvel franchise. We've been down that road already.

I honestly have no idea..If I had to make a realistic guess on who as of right now, it'd be Jonah.
That said, the fanboy in me is screaming for Abrams, Jackson, Bay, or Verbinski.

Yeah, if the history of Goyer and the Nolan's continues along it's path (realistically speaking,) Jonah will be the director. I always thought Abrams would have been an excellent choice when he was in line for it. After seeing Star Trek, I couldn't help but say to myself, "What the hell was WB thinking?"

The Superman: Flyby stuff was before his directorial debut on the silver screen with Mission Impossible: 3. Though the Flyby script was shaky, it involved some major actions sequences that could have quite possibly been ground breaking visuals.

ya for me i do hope we know soon enough who will be the director officially and i hope they will give us a good solid film.

What about Brad Bird? He proved in the Iron Giant he likes Superman, directed one of the best superhero movies ever and after 1902 was killed he's free.
Cruise and Abrams are approaching him to direct the new Mission Impossible movie.

Bird would be GREAT. I don't see him as a "franchise" director though. I think he'd be more of a one-in-done, timeless project. A movie version of Superman: For All Seasons to an extent.

I think the WB wants someone in for the long haul, they seem to be trying to plan this whole thing out ahead of time.

Do people still want Michael Bay? The movie would look nice, and the action scenes would be great but I wouldn't trust the man with Superman.

No, just no... where did this myth about Bay having a good visual style come from, his movie are as dry and boring to look at as SR.

And he CAN'T stage a good action scene, one or two shots maybe but even Terminator Salvation reached a higher level of kinetic energy than both Transformers films.

If you want to choose a directors based purely on visuals and proven ability to stage a involved action scene L.L is the choice.

Also Bay is a ******** director all around with no vision, unless you count fart jokes as directorial vision, for **** sakes man why would anyone want Bay for anything.

I think, since this is going to be 3D, that WB should extend the offer to the TRON: LEGACY director like asap. Brad Bird would be cool too, and with Nolan overshadowing him, it would make his transition to live action film easier but MI:4 is probably a better move for him career wise - less room for error/ more of a trial run to try out the medium. Wheras if he ****ed up a big-budget Superman film his first shot out of the animation gate he'd be ****ed in Hollywood.

J.J. Abrams would also be a choice for me, but hes busy with Star Trek so I think it comes down to two finalists.

Man of Steel from the director of Tron: Legacy, or Clash of the Titans

Bird would amazing I think. If he doesn't do MI:4, WB should give him a call.

I wouldn't worry about that. He'll have Nolan mentoring him.

yes Nolan will fix everything. he is the god right?

i have liked the idea of bird doing supes. He has done some excelent animated films. So we know how he can handle story/characters. i would love to see what he could bring to the table in a live action superhero flix.

In a perfect world, I would love to see how Peter Jackson would tackle the Man of Steel. That being said, love him or hate him, JJ Abrams definitely can shoot larger scale action. It may not be the most inspired choice, but I wouldn't be upset with it either...

since when is JJ the expert with big scale action? i dont remember any big scale action in ST

Since some of us read his 2nd draft and were blown away by the enormous oportunity that this franchise missed... there's a thread in the Misc. Sups Films about this. And yes he had directed... episodes from some of his series like Lost and Alias.

^ This. Not to mention he handled himself very well in MI:3, and IMO, yes, there was good action in Star Trek as well. Anytime you can showcase spaceship battles in outerspace with pretty seamless CGI, or a globetrotting secret agent, I would classify it as action on a big scale. In my estimation, the scale doesn't get much bigger than the globe & the galaxy, but he'y, that's me. I hope you aren't one of those trekkies ********* over some of the deviations, are you?

Yeah, wtf, there was big scale action in Star Trek almost immediately....

oh and Brad Bird would be an amazing talent to bring onto this franchise.
