Frank Darabont

I'm sorry, Slamet, who do you want? :oldrazz:

I understand your sentiment.

I would give him a shot if he got the gig but I don't want him. He is completely inexperienced (I'm pretty sure he's never directed anything) and I'm afraid that the movie would just totally be a Christopher Nolan film. Nolan is a fantastic director and I don't mind him overseeing things too much but his sensibilities are all wrong for a Superman film as far as directing is concerned.

I'm optimistic and I'm cheering them on but make no mistake I am already a little afraid of the Nolan/Goyer team.

Lets not Nolanize Superman too much. I don't want a tortured, moody lonely detective Superman.

No Tortured Superman dammit!

I'm hoping some new blood is brought on board so it isn't just the same old team of the Nolans and Goyer. I want someone else to either direct the movie or help Goyer with the screenplay.

Well, i likes Darabont, but stephen king should write some superman comics first.:hehe:

what other stuff have jones done? I have heard his name before but i dont think i seen any of his work. Is he suited for action/cgi type of films?

Matthew Vaughn would be my pick. Not only has he only directed 3 movies, therefor is kinda fresh & new & can maybe bring something to the game, but all 3 of his movies to date have been well received. I think putting someone like Vaughn with someone like Nolan would be a great combo. Judging by Kick-Ass both Vaughn & Nolan like sticking to the source material as much as possible. Sounds liek a great team IMO.

Steve

Good point, sounds good to me.

Ridley Scott

A legendary director.

I don't think that would ever happen, but wouldn't be upset if it did. It would be weird to consider somebody of such a high stature working under Nolan though.

Regarding on I SEE SPIDEY's post,I have to comment on hopes for Superman's character. In the comics, and its there, Superman is meant to represent that everything we can aspire to be. He is more than just a superpowered heroic alien,he is a symbol of hope for so many people in so many ways. It was **** in Returns, and Smallville cant seem to get a proper grasp on it.

I want to see him go back to those roots, and show him making a proper difference,as he did and still does in the comics. I want to see in a movie interp, the true extent of what made him important all those years ago...Highlighted that an Alien from a distant galaxy, can see a glimmer of hope within human society, through the darkness which we cant see from, and never stop guiding us to that hope, which will become truth. Thats what makes Superman an important symbol, and Nolan likes stuff like that,so hopefully something like that will be seen.

well i cant wait to see the story and themes they will want to play with the film and characters this time around.

"[I'd] love to do 'The Avengers,'" Vaughn told MTV News. "And Superman... I think it would be great to reinvent Superman."

While he was at it, Vaughn also shared some thoughts about the one that got away, too—and he wasn't talking about Marvel's god of thunder.

"I was desperate to do 'Iron Man' about 8 years ago, and everyone was like, 'Iron Man, no one will go watch that,'" he said. "Cut to now, and it's a huge hit."

"I grew up watching superhero films, so I want to make superhero films," he added.

Matthew Vaughn FTW

I really hope Vaughn gets to nab one of the big ones. He's so deserving of it, both as a fan and creative talent.

I'm sorry I but wish people would stop worrying so much about this. lol Nolan is smart enough to know Superman and Batman are two different characters.

Zemeckis, Vaughn, Michael Mann, Darabont, I think they'd all be great and provide their own unique touches....

In this case, that probably is true... But I remember when people mentioned their worry for the tone of the film (not being colorful/bright enough) with Singer because of the films he has done. The responses were "Oh he will know to change that, he's a smart guy." and "Will he portray a modern corporate Lex?" the responses were "I'm sure he knows what fans want to see."

I even kept trying to find every angle in the world, regardless of incoming news, to have more origin elements into SR. I was sure he would find a way to get a better backstory.

While SR was not a terrible film, it did end up missing on the elements that many fans thought "Well geez, he is a smart director, he will know to do A,B,and C..."

You just never know. However I think after what happened with SR, Nolan at least has added knowledge on moving towards a different direction with a reboot at least. Just don't assume EVERY piece of obvious fanboy knowledge will make its way to film. :o

Very true, and I will be worried ( but not extremely worried ) until I see some actual pics of the suit, and stills from the film.

Nolan's just the producer. I'll worry after the director's announced.

well i am sure wb wont want superman to be just like batman, so what ever hand nolan has in scoping everything will probably be a different look and feel from his batman films. And he will jsut use what he did with casting, and helping form story and all that. The world and look will probably be different. Plus what ever say the director has in things too. Hopefully we will hear a few names pop up before we officially have the real director.

I'd be shocked beyond words if its a big named director announced.
I expect it to be someone like Jonah, blomkamp, or vaughn.
If, and thats a big IF, jonah does direct it, you might as well say big brother will have a big hand in it as well. He won't want little brother to fail in his first directed film you know.
Something else I think about, who's to say Nolan himself doesn't end up directing it. Not likely, but still, until its announced, we dont know.

Exactly, After DC's triumph with with Batman Begins and TDK, I'm sure their going to be very careful in they're decision of a director, whether it's Nolan, vaughn, Jonah, blomkamp or anyone else remains to be seen, regardless of whether it's a new director, I'm positive they won't have a name until they have complete faith in his ability to properly execute a superman revamp along the lines they have in mind.

I think its really going to depend on how much control Nolan has because I don't see many directors wanting to work under those conditions. Vaughan walked out on 2 superhero projects because of creative issues I'm sure, would he take on superman knowing that WB and nolan/goyer team will have a large say in what happens?

Right now its kinda why the Jonah Nolan directing really makes the most sense and seems like it may be more then just a rumour. He hasn't directed anything so he wont have much of a say. Is it a risk? sure, but if you surround him with and exceptional team it may actually work out. We should be hearing something soon though about the director since that seems like the next logical step if there working on a script as we speak.

If it's going to be a christmas 2012 release like some are guessing, then i'm hoping we hear about a director being onboard pretty soon.
For me, it's not really going to feel like its happening until we hear that.

Other then maybe the writing process and possibly some designs, nothing can really be done until they have a director, so yeah, let's it's ASAP :csad:

yup i hope they do find the right guy for the job. And who ever it is i wish them the best of luck for the film and i hope they hit it out of the park and nail the right aspects to the character and story of superman. As for if its going to end up for holiday season 2012. Yea we definately need to have a director nailed down between now and june/july. As we know script been working on process for a few months now. So they probably have a draft done and are probably working on another now if they are at that point. Then say if they got a director by july lets say. They will then need to decide where the film is going to shoot and what studio space they will be using for filming, and start location scouting and set/prop building within like 3-4months before production starts. Now will it be stateside, canada, or another country who knows. But then if director is nailed by july i could see casting maybe starting around early fall like sept-dec period. Then shooting could take place lets say feb/march 2011-may/june 2011, then july 2011-dec2012 could be for post production, reshoots, and the whole marketing phase and that would give us a good well over a yr and a half to release.
