Superman Returns The Official Comic-Con Thread!

At Comic-Con 2006 on Friday, during a Superman panel hosted by Warner Bros. studios, Superman Returns director, Bryan Singer, revealed that he anticipates being involved in the next Superman film.

Singer said he has not signed on to the project yet and Warner Bros. has not approached him about being involved with a follow-up film, although he believes this will eventually happen.

He said that if given a chance to direct the sequel, he will continue the story where
Superman Returns left off and would bring on screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris (from the first film) to pen the screenplay for the follow-up.

I am not sure Singer should annoint himself the director of the sequel until there's an official word out of WB. He'll make himself look foolish if the final BO isn't up to expectation and WB end up going with different director. I think Singer is concerned about that too and wants to put the word out that he'd like to return and continue what he started. It kind of puts WB in a ackward position don't you think?

Which means there isn't anything set in stone still... one thing is Singer's intentions for the franchise and another thing is WB's intentions for the franchise...

It doesn´t mean anything, Nolan wasn´t immediately approached by WB after the release of BB too. His first actual meeting to pitch the sequel story happened months later.

Wow....that'd be pretty cool, actually.

I mean...Superman would have to kill the dude. I'd lose all respect if he didn't.....

Only if it was Darkseid...its been said many times that Darkseid is the ONLY villain that Superman is willing to kill.

But I guess it could be Brainiac too since he's technically a robot.

But wasn't that more because Nolan was pushing Warner away? He was working on The Prestige and The Exec at the time.

Seems so...

I expected that. Its too early and there's more time left at the BO. The only way Singer would've been set in stone is if SR smashed the BO which would apply to any director in such a position. WB needs to asses what the heck happened, make changes (creative and budgetary) and then get Singer in - that is if they want to keep him.

I think Singer will introduce a NEW villain to the Superman mythos.

Someone whose never been in the comics or any of the movies.

GAYLIEN.

Yeah, that's what I think. BB proved itself so Nolan has tremendous leverage over at TW. Even Horn said "Chris is gonna come in and tell us about the sequel."

If the sequel is only for 2009, as Singer says, he may work on Logan´s Run before. And don´t forget he´s a producer on the hit Fox show House.

Mr. Socko said:
Singer is an idiot and he only uses previous Superman movies as references so if he does the sequel, Zod will be the villian.

He's going to try and recreate Superman II next.

He thinks he can satisfy us just because he's using an "alien villian"

Exactly.I hope WB kicks his ass...

Thats a great position to be in. It means you can do -almost- anything you want.

I hope he shoots that before SR2 (if a deal is struck). A smaller film -compared to X2 and SR- with a completely different setting and scenario will benefit him and the sequel.

I think he got an art department and previs guys working on Logan's Run while they were doing SR.So it should be no problem to start that film in the near future.

Yep Routh said on Letterman I think that the budget for the 2nd need not be as expensive, since theyve built alot of the stuff they need and learned cheaper techniques through trial and error....they just need to modify them.

please God let them have enough money to fix that blasted costume

Nah, everybody was pretty mute on that a few weeks after the release.

During the London premiere Singer said that they are in talks with the WB for the sequel.

For Singer to not only mention the sequel and what he wants to do with it (Go Khan with it seems like a shout out to fans who found SR to tame) but to also mention an alien villain as well as a purposed release date of 2009 tells me it's all but sealed with WB

Yeah, he won´t be signed still for a while, he´s probably gonna work on Logan´s Run now, but as he´s finishing, Harris and Dougherty might be working on the sequel script, the way happened with Nolan finishing Prestige while his brother is penning the BB sequel.

I really hope he is not signed for the sequel, the man is not the right director for Superman, and continuing his stupid kid storyline needs to go.:o

Don't see this posted.....

Singer Still Planning Superman Sequel
Source: Edward Douglas July 21, 2006

At the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con in San Diego today, director Bryan Singer said that he was in talks with the studio about a sequel to Superman Returns. He hadn't concluded a deal to do it yet, which he said is always "iffy," but he has every intention to do a sequel for 2009, and said that while Superman Returns reintroduced the character for new people, the next one will let him get all "Wrath of Khan on it." He added that you can expect an alien villain in the sequel.

He also joked that he has to see who's left in the cast if he ever were to return to the "X-Men" franchise. Ironically, right before being asked about it, he had been joined on the dias by original Superman director Richard Donner, whose wife Lauren Shuler Donner produced the first two "X-Men" movies.
