Superman Returns The Official Comic-Con Thread!

yeah, but why can't he think up of something on his own... there are better thigns out there than to rip off of Superman...

It seems like Raimi ran the same amount of tributes to Superman in Spiderman as Singer did with Donner. :O

The one that is not so subtle that gets me everytime is when Goblin is in the Bugle's office and Spiderman appears in the window for him to come out and fight.

Superman: Would you care to step out side?

In my opinion, you need to see 2,3 and 4 as they are somewhat a trilogy. But I'd put my money on seeing Wrath of Khan (part 2), Undiscovered Country (part 6) and First Contact (part 8). They are the best of the best, IMHO.

I remember we talked about this before Skru right? Or is it just my neurons firing again? I still haven't checked any of them out from the last time you recommended them. It's that whole sci fi thing, it's like undiscovered country for me. :O

I understand. The reason I recommend those is that Wrath of Khan plays off like a revenge flick, Undiscovered Country plays like a political thriller/murder mystery, and First Contact is an action movie.

Now I have confirmation that he showed up so Charl can send me a giftcard. Heh Heh.

 Yep...he showed:) I'm beat from the heat and the crowds, but I'll look for a really good card tomorrow, Showtime:up:

I was ready with my phone and I even went to the front so I could get a clear picture...and then he showed:down I went back to my seat:O

Overall though, I thought his comments were on the iffy side. He seemed much more reserved than he was last year. LOL...he expressed where he would go if there was a sequel, but he did use the term "iffy". It seemed he was a deadlock for X3, and he left...sooooo "iffy" means "iffy" to me.

Of course this is just an observation, and once again my ass was in the back so I couldn't see that well. I also forgot my tomatoes...and I was too far in the back to the hit the dude if I had brought them anyway:)

edit:

I did ask a question at one of the panels....lol....everyone was probably gone by that time.

How was the security at the panel? Did you see anyone filming the gag reel or the Donner stuff? I'd love to see it! That X2 gag reel that was screened at a convention never made it onto the DVD.

Ummm...the security seemed light to me, but then again that was in comparison to the people present. I was able to get pretty close to the panel with little hassle except for the crowds.

I did see a lot of flashes, but I was at the back and the flashes were coming from the smart people who had gotten there earlier and obtained a good seat. No one where I was sitting had a camera or anything else.

There were some folks there with computers...so maybe they had some camera devices with them. I went back to my seat in the back once I saw Singer's face:O

You don't have to worry about the card. We are good.

Did you hear him say anythin else that wasn't posted? Any questions or were no questions allowed? No box office talk I imagine?

It's amazing that that each of those movies follows a different theme. I am definately like that.

that one girl did ask a good question, though... about the iligetimate child.

Nope...you are going to get that card because I would have wanted one if I had won the bet:up: :)

No, everything has been posted. It wasn't an SR forum, per se, his portion was timed and it was limited. It was like he came to "appease" the fans, which did raise Singer a bit in my eyes because for him not to show would have been cowardly. However, he seemed reserved. He answered some questions, not a lot, and not as many as last year, but the forum was tailored for SR that time.

The fact that he was "limited" in what he could say was representative for me of what's really going on at WB. They had a lot of question control....and they were serious about it:)

Was anyone at the cartoon forum? I got the nerve to ask a question...but it wasn't crowded like the WB one.

edit:

IMO, Singer was vague with most of his answers. He didn't seem like he was a having a good time...in comparison to last year that is.

I wonder if there is going to be a transcript or some footage. I want to know what kind of questions he asked.

Is there a transcript or a video you mean?

I don't remember this happening or spidey saying that but it doesn't matter. That movie stunk to me, a mediocre movie hyped as if it's the second coming. The best one of them was the second because it felt like it had its own identity. What other movie is cheesy enough to have some guy yell "Whoa, he stole that guy's pizza!" there are alot of stupid things about sm2, but it's a very strong, well made film on its own without needing to lean on someone elses work to support it. i can respect that.

Spiderman doesn't say that but its a take off on that scene in Superman where he does. I think Spiderman is decent and Spiderman 2 is an "event" movie like POTC2.

My observations from comic-con today.

1) The blooper reel was hilarious...he did say it would be on the DVD.

2)The illegitimate child question was a good one...and I thought he answered it well...made me happy at least.

3) While you could tell from the applause from the 2 tough questions that there were people that were not totally please with the movie (i am one of them) there definitely seemed to be more people there that were big fans of the movie and wanted singer back

4) I have to admit the whole "wrath of Kahn" thing got me pumped to see a sequel. I felt that his answers and statements gave me enough comfort to see him have another shot.

5) I think the cut krytpon scene will make its way into a sequel somehow (based on his comments)

6) Singer was humble and made fun of himself and of the lack of box office and the big budget

7) it definitely seemed like braniac is the villain of choice for the sequel although for some reason the audience seemed to want Zod back (i swear i wasn't one of the people that cheered for that)

Yeah, I'm sure someone had something. There were a lot of people there, and security...the wonderful ELITE security force, was kind of lacking.

Hoop, did you see the line of questions though?

And I agree...GD...KNEEEEELLLLL BEFORE ZOD was uttered so many times I felt sick from it.

It was good, but Singer was limited.

Just for those wondering what 'Wrath of Khan' means.... don't know if something similar was posted earlier....

Q: So I'm really interested in your commitment and your ideas about the next movie, you said you wanted it to be like your 'Wrath of Khan' did you mean that you wanted it to be your final take?

Singer: No, I meant now that things are established, now that there is a context, characters that exist, characters who can find themselves in greater jeapordy, characters who we are hopefully emotionally invested in, now you can go into the action realm. It's just a first thing that if you don't care about who the action adventure is happening to, then action adventure is fire works. So, now that we have a kind of a context of emotional care, we have Richard, the child, we have all these people, now this family of characters. So, now when the **** hits the fan, when action comes, I don't want to say who or what or what big force or what terrible alien force- or whatever happens. It is, it is as the mother said "the universe is a big place Clark and even if you are the last.... what else is out there..." these notions, now that the characters are established- you needed to know who those guys were before wrath faced off with those cadets in 'Wrath of Khan' that's, that's what I meant. And then you can go bang bang bang!! And play that action a bit bigger and harder because you already emotionally invested in these characters, it's just a way of rolling it out- I guess- that I learned from X-Men 1.

Very interesting. Thanks Tri.

Where is the audio?

Singer and Donner at Comic-Con
Posted by Justin on 07/21/06

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Bryan Singer and Richard Donner, both Superman directors, just made a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, and we've got the audio of the entire thing, right here. Click the link below to hear their presentation. Be warned, it is spoilerish.

Download

Additionally, you can see some photos and a live blog of the event over at BrandonRouth.com

After the presentation, I got to speak with Bryan about sequels and about the Richard Donner cut of Superman II. I was particularly interested in the Donner cut, since Singer's film has been stated to be a vague sequel to Superman I & II. I asked Bryan if he had any influence on the Superman II cut, or if Superman Returns was in any way being taken into consideration when re-editing the film. The simple answer? Nope. He did say, though, that he's seen much of it already, and it's really enjoyable.

I also asked him about the character of Jason White, and what it was that told him the time was right to take the Superman mythos in that direction. According to Singer, it's because "there's so many versions of Superman. There's so much comic book material, there's so much television material, and there's so many movies, I had to reintroduce this thing and make it different. I had to do something that hadn't been seen before." Different is what he made it, to be sure.

He also wanted to transfer some of the father-son relationship toward Kal-El being the father figure for a change. Kryptonian heritage, which has been so important in the film Superman universe, will continue to play a role in the future of the franchise as well, with Jason being the newest addition to the House of El. Bryan says, "Absolutely. You'll notice there's a bunch of crystals missing. They found their way onto a gigantic growing island laced with Kryptonite that's now floating in space somewhere. And there's an offspring there."

But what could we see in a sequel? Bryan reminded me that "as Martha Kent says - the universe is a big place. You never know what's out there. You've not seen the last of the planet Krypton. That's why I made sure I opened with it exploding." Let the fans chew on the implications of that one for a while.

This sounds good to me and i really want to see that blooper reel. Too many dvds don't even show the bloopers.
