Sorry if I disagree, but this isn't like the Black vs Blue coloring debate.

They clearly didn't care about boots missing or the \S/ not being red or on back of the cape like some here are treating as the only way to recognize Superman.

If you want the trunks, fine, again we get it, but let it go already. I understand this is the costume thread but get over the trunks.

His boots are red on the cover though lol:

I'm pretty sure the trunks will be gone, but I'm just hoping whatever they've done doesn't look too stupid.

I do think they took the cuff idea from Action #1 but I think Captain Marvel is playing an influence here too. I think the larger \S/, which comes from Alex Ross' work, will serve like the lightning bolt on Cap's costume to take away from no trunks.

Cap's costume works because of the large SHAZAM bolt, the gauntlets, and the sash:

Adding gauntlets to Superman's costume and doing something more ornate with the belt will help get around losing the trunks.

Majik, look at that last panel of that page Kurosawa mentioned. Those are clearly boots, but not colored in.

Those vines on his ankles are different from panel to panel as is his design from design to cover to panel.

They are not good source material for a faithful adaptation of a costume that can't even decide on what it looks like there.

The colour of the boots switch from red to blue in the earliest comics and don't stay consistently red until they decided to get rid of those straps a few issues in.

Superman movie costume LOOKS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like this. The wrist things comes from Action Comics 1 and the belt is not what you showed at all.

No, it's nowhere near as good as Captain Marvel's costume which is a shame since the classic costume destroys Cap's outfit and all other superhero costumes by a mile. So i don't think the movie costume looks LIKE it, but I think they are using similar tactics-a big \S/ and the gauntlets-to distract away from the lack of trunks. I hope the belt is more or less like your manips, that would help too.

Trunks are gone so we just gotta deal with it and hope they come up with a good solution around them. The first picture looks so godly because they darkened out the trunks area and so people mentally filled it in with what is supposed to be there. They won't have that luxury for the movie.

I'm not so sure:

The edge of the S is at the same angle to the light as the edge of the shield and the shield is definitely reflecting more of a silver colour, compared the S. If it was just a raised portion of the red material it would reflect the same as the S...
They're different material. The \S/ itself in and the ribbed blue, that is.

i did this for fun nothing serious.

i angled the belt in the main pic and came up with a beltless design on the side

I was high on the suit, but then the whole scaly look wore off on me.

I was talking about this with Jamie and he mentioned to me that "they basically took McG's Superman and put him in McG's Superman suit." That's pretty much what it seems like unless some red trunks suddenly appear.

Yeah, there's definitely a belt there. Whether it's red, gold, or black, it's definitely there. And I have a feeling the belt will be angled down more, to kinda fill more space and look more interesting.

you mean this one?

I guess I can see the similarities. But I prefer the new S shield over this one.

I don't know, man. I don't think different material (assuming they are, that is. There's no way to tell from this pic) would reflect light THAT differently. And there's an area to the lower right in less direct light that clearly show a difference in colour. I guess only time will tell...

anyhow, i still think without the trunks, the suit is incomplete. like missing something. like a peanut butter cake without the peanut.

and it will open to unnecessary funny remarks, taking away the credits of the new design.
