The Official DC Stupid Question Thread....

The Obsidian Age was great. The only thing it takes from Our Worlds at War is Aquaman's death, though, and it's not like it really matters why Aquaman died. The story just picks up with the JLA not being cool with the whole "Aquaman's dead" thing and setting out to fix it.

Coincidentally, that's a story that would probably never see the light of day in today's climate. Some editor would probably be like, "Wait, Aquaman died? And you want to bring him back?" :o

So did like the Kents survive? I mean I think they did but how?
Yeah, they lived, but Pa was wandering around alone for a little while, so Clark, Ma, and Lois had no idea if he survived or not, until he came home.

He was out getting some tail from old lady Brown over yonder.

can someone explain to me why all the kryptonians from kandor know english?

I don't know the current answer but the pre-crisis Kryptonians monitored earth's communications even before Krypton exploded. The Kandorians lived in the Fortress for years and kept a constant watch on Earth with their technology. They would naturally learn some of Earth's languages and since Superman lived in the U.S., English is a natural.

thanks for the thorough answer, but im referring to to current continuity, where superman found kandor on brainiac's ship and expanded it next to the fortress of solitude... they just magically know english or did i miss something?

well,..

If you go by canon,.. Kryptonians minds get a power boost by being under a yellow sun,... in order to move and react at super speeds,.. you would think they would have to be able to process info faster.

Superman cruises to another planet,.. and in less than five minutes is talking like a local,..
I expect years of being stuck in a bottle listening to Earth they would already have a clue.

The same way Supergirl learned so quickly, its like having a built in GL power ring translator.

ok but heres the thing... supergirl and superman didnt show up to kandor right away... clark expanded it and then took off to his father in smallville... he and kara didnt visit until after JK's funeral. and this kandor had no direct exposure to earth until supes expanded it. it was locked away on brainiacs ship... wtf... i hate sloppy crap like that... atleast kara had some direct exposure to it, these kryptonians just start speaking it right away...

They speak English through the magic of it's-deeply-rooted-in-Johns'-hard-on-for-the-Silver-Age-so-don't-question-it-ism.

I'll play devil's advocate and say it's not that hard to believe that Superman didn't in some way introduce the English language to the people of Kandor at some point, with the possibility in mind that they might at some point need to interact with the outside world.

In the latest issue of JSA, why does Hawkman have fangs when he starts to attack Alan? And didn't he seem a little too quick to anger in Gog's behalf?

Johns is not great on ambiguity, particularly as it pertains to superheroes killing. You're either a paragon of old school values, or you're Laira the murdering Red Lantern. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground for him.

Didnt he write in the new GL laws that allow them to use excessive force?

Yeah, a law that he's depicted as fundamentally wrong if not outright malevolent.
