The Official DC Stupid Question Thread....

Also, I don't remember who said this in an interview, but basically;

The JLA is the team that goes back in time or microscopic or to an alternate universe and saves us from imminent threats we ("we" being the DCU residents) never will know about.

The JSA is the team that is on the streets fighting Solomon Grundy and the like and you can still see where the sidewalk is all bashed and broken from their fight last week.

Here's a portion of my answer to that question from some time ago in this thread.
Justice League of America is the team which features the most recognizable heroes and the team you're most likely thinking of when you think of DC. It features matinée names like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and the Flash, along with some lesser known heroes like Black Canary, Hawkgirl, and Red Tornado. Generally-accepted as the most powerful DC team, they are usually the ones that deal with the most dangerous, world-ending threats, though not always.

The Justice Society, in a nutshell, was the precursor to the Justice League back in the days of World War II, aka the Golden Age of DC comics. Because this is comics, a lot of the founding members are still alive and kicking, and are still running the team. It features members like the original Green Lantern, the original Flash, Hawkman, and much lesser-knowns like Power Girl and Wildcat.
It used to be that the team was just sort of a corner for the old-timers and the lesser-known Golden Age standbys to hang out in, but lately the core mission of the JSA has been to nurture and train younger heroes and provide a community -- a society, basically -- for the superhuman crowd. That's why more than half of the current members are comprised of newer heroes, legacy characters, and general up-and-comers. It's unlikely that readers new to DC would recognize most of the team. They still handle missions and stop world-ending threats and the such, but to a much lesser extent than the JLA.

There's no enmity between the JLA and the JSA; just the opposite is true. They're not one team because they're simply different teams, like the Avengers aren't the Defenders aren't the X-Men. They have different overall purposes, but often combine forces when met with threats that require both their resources.

I prefered JSA when they weren't trying to teach kids things - it took such a nosedive in quality when the title became Justice Society of America. Still holding out hope for Sturges though.

oh my ****ing god what the **** is going on with the ****ing hype!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've read Green Lantern Rebirth and the Sinestro Corps Wars.

What else do I need to read to get up to know all I need to know ready for Blackest Night? Is Rage of the Red Lanterns necessary?

Or even if they are not necessary, what other good stories are there leading up to Blackest Night?

i dunno what issue we are even on! lol im gonna need some help here... corp? assassin? womp? BW?

All of the Agent Orange and Rage of the Red Lantern storylines. And in GLC, read Sins of the Star Saffires and the recent SinestroCorps/Daxam story. That should give you pretty good knowledge of all the corpseseses. What is the plural of a corps?

Its is already pluralized, you nimrod.

Is it? There is the Green Lantern Corps, but what about the other 7 corps? Is it just corps or is it corpses?

Yeah you will, nimrod. Just kidding. It's easy for us Missourians to **** things up.

"Corpses" is the plural of "corpse." That'd imply a much different meaning for the corps than that there's more than one of them.

I suppose you could call the Black Lanterns corpses.

That reminds me, I wonder if other corps have a black ops division like the Green Lantern Corpse. Probably not, since the others are either one person (Agent Orange), don't give a s*** about their public appearance (Sinestro Corps, Red Lantern Corps, Black Lantern Corps, probably the Indigo Tribe), or are literally too good to embrace the concept of black ops (Blue Lantern Corps). I guess maybe the Star Sapphires could have one.

There is a lost Sapphire. So who knows what's up with that.
