The Official Great Ten Thread

Gorramit, it actually sounds pretty good. Chinese gods come back to wreck **** in Communist China? I'm there on a bear.

Certainly sounds like an interesting concept.

I'm all over this - love Bedard's writing.

I'll give it a try. I like Bedard and I liked August General in Iron in Checkmate.

you and me both... i think him and tomasi are the only writers ill pick up almost anything from...

Once I got over the lameness of the Starro revamp, REBELS became one of my favorite reads each month again.

i really dont even think that revamp is that bad... we still get the awesomeness of giant brain controlling starfish... the last issue was AWESOME... way to up the ante

Eh, I just don't like this implication that the "real" Starro is this barbarian conqueror guy. I like my Starros as apparently mindless, innocuous starfish... until they latch onto someone and start killing people.

I like my Starros as Starfish too.

But honestly, you can change that retcon easily with the big old Starfish appearing again and saying he was just controlling the humanoid.

True. The rest of REBELS more than makes up for it anyway. I love Strata. She and Dox are hilarious together. :)

Up until I read that interview, I had no idea what Seven Deadly Brothers' power was.

It's about effing time! I've been waiting for a Great Ten comic since they announced one right after 52 ended. When was that, 2007?

This book is not needed, just like the republic of china

Nonsense. Accomplished Perfect Physician is awesome, and Ghost Fox Killer & Shaolin Robot have the coolest superhero super-functionary names in years.

I'd agree, but as a kitsune, I'm probably biased towards Ghost Fox Killer... unless it means she kills ghost foxes.

She could be a ghost fox who kills.

I might have to check this out. I love mythology in general, so anything that deals with that usually gets a look from me. I also love the cover artist. He reminds me alot of Jo Chen's work. It even almost got me to check out that Final Crisis: Dance mini.

Almost.

At the very least, it seems like this will have much more point than that Super Young Team mini...another Morrison creation that someone else took the ball and ran with.

I love Morrison. You all know this. But he really, really doesn't know Japanese superhero culture very well at all if all he thinks of for Japanese superheroes is "Slightly humorous takes on western heroes' names and powers."

At least in this case, he had the excuse that there's really no Chinese superhero culture for him to have messed up.

If I was going to create a team of Japanese superheroes, my team would look like rejects from Naruto, Sailor Moon, Super Sentai/Power Ranger, Ronin Warriors, and maybe a spunky baseball player just for fun. You can't go wrong with a terribly un-ninja-like ninja, magical girl, tech fighter, armored samurai, and a sports anime cliche.

Too bad these are CHINESE, you racist. :oldrazz::heart::ninja::trans::meow:

BrianWilly was just talking about how Morrison created the Super Young Team (a Japanese superhero team), but messed up because he didn't understand Japanese superhero culture. This was used in contrast to the Great Ten, because there isn't really a Chinese superhero culture for Morrison to mess with. It's the post directly above mine. I just went off on a slight tangent about how I would've created something like the Super Young Team.
