And they'll stand the test of time. Well the first two will anyway. 2 more so than any other.

I never buy into these special fx looked really aged comments some make about 1. It holds up better than half of the CGI video game looking movies that come out these days.

I think there is alot of exaggeration with bad CGI. Look at that Scorpian King thing, bloody awful, that's video game CGI.

There was defenatly several shots that were weak. BD CGI is when you can see less complexion or a different texture or a less fluid motion. The wall crawling part springs to mind.

While I prefer SM1 to SM2, the CGI was much stronger. SM2's CGI was ahead of it's time for sure. That's not saying that the CGI was bad in SM1.

If the CGI looks good now, I guess it'll look good forever. :yay:

Might marathon the Raimi series tomorrow.

I think that's more of a plot hole but I don't think plot holes come close to ruining the movie... Except with TDKR but that's another story.

If the core element of the movie is good then eveything else is irrelevant. Not saying that SM3 was great but I see it as a good movie with bad scenes rather than a bad movie with good moments if that makes sense.

I think the visual effects on Sandman are the best visual effects in any superhero movie ever, I can't think of something more impressive than that.

Nearly every movie that relies on special fx has one or two duff shots. Overall the CGI and special fx in general hold up really well in SM-1.

Of course it goes without saying that SM-2's was amazing and ahead of it's time. I mean it even scooped an Oscar for it. I remember it well. They showed a train fight clip at the awards ceremony.

Wow I disagree there, I personally liked TDKR more than TDK simply because Bruce was a character that I actually cared about in TDKR while he acted almost like a robot in TDK.

Not saying that SM3 was great but I see it as a good movie with bad scenes rather than a bad movie with good moments if that makes sense. So to me SM3 and TDKR succeed in creating great character arcs that carry the movie as opposed to having a good story with no character to root for like in TDK but HEY its just my opinion 'cause I see you love TDK lol

Oh bloody hell if you guys get this thread closed because of turning it into a TDK discussion I'll peel the flesh off your bones *snap snap snap*.

I just used TDK to make a point :D are we not allowed to even reference other movies? Im newbie lol

No, not to the degree you were doing discussing what you thought of TDK and TDKR. They're really clamping down on that kind of thing. Two people just got slapped on probation for bringing up Raimi's movies in the TASM 2 discussion thread.

So beware!

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how awesome this scene was? The villian seems like a genuine threat, uncle Ben is treated like a father figure! Love this this scene so much

Not to mention how this scene shows how beat up Peter will get for his morals and what he will do to you if you threaten his loved ones.

I really love Toby's Spidey, he's so kid-ish if that makes sense?

If the likes of The Terminator and original Robocop can still hold up, the Raimi movies should have no problem, and IMO they dont. They all still hold up really well. Good characterisations and emotional moments mean a lot more than CGI anyway, no matter the quality of it.

I thought the only thing that looked odd in these movies was the "airy" web swinging, but other than that, the CGI really is fine.

I think Im the only one who liked MJ as a character. Its clear that she was very insecure due to her father and she was always trying to prove herself first dating with Flash the popular guy in HS then with Harry because he's rich and then with John because he's rich and kinda famous. With Peter she didn't mind being honest about her job or her crush on Spiderman, she didn't feel the need to act like her life was perfect and that's the reason why she fell in love with him.

I also like how in SM3 their relationship was not as easy as she thought and its sort of realistic to think that Peter wasn't always gonna be there for her because of Spiderman.

I think the soundtrack helped a lot, brings all my early childhood memories of spidey rushing back :)

I've loved every spider-man movie so far, but Raimi's ones always bring back that child-ish sense of glee to me

I think compared to the rest of the series, it has the weakest CGI. But, the movie is no worse SFX wise than plenty of other films, for sure. While SM1 has a few spots of spotty CGI (and it really is only a few spots), the storyline of the film is just so well done for Spider-Man's origin. Other films have tried to do the villain/hero parallel journey (see Green Lantern) and failed. SM1, it works tremendously well. Uncle Ben's death is utterly heartbreaking. The ending when Harry sees Spider-Man with Norman dead in his arms. The funeral. SO much good stuff in SM1! I agree, both it and SM2 shall indeed stand the test of time

The fact so many critics still mention those films relative to more recent Spidey films I feel indicates this.

SM2 had the best CGI IMO. I can't watch Spider-man without thinking that it takes place in 2002. But this is a good thing because it makes it a classic.

I just hate that it looks like he's flying at times. Also, too much glistening with the webs on his costume makes it look fake. But I believed that SM was swinging here, unlike in SM1.

You're not alone. I loved her compassion, her insecurities, how she liked to pretend that things were okay, and how she needed someone to uplift her and give her some self-esteem because of her past.

The core element was very bad. My biggest problems are the characterisations. I hated what they did to Peter. The only part they got right was he's a nice guy. Honestly this isn't the charming, confident, smart but also a little awkward College years Peter from the comics. He's even more shy and reclusive than in high school. About Spider-Man he didn't make much quips but I liked the two we really got. Mary Jane was terrible, she was selfish and was really winy. I was cheering on Venom in the finale.

Now Sandman was actually great, unfortunatly he killed Uncle Ben by accident. It's not that I don't like the idea of it as I am not a silly purist but it changed the meaning of Ben's death. In every version, Peter is responsible as he let the thief get away. His killer murders him intentionally. In this Uncle Ben's death was a total accident, Marko got spooked and oops I shot some old guy. Plus your man in the first movie died for no real reason.

Pointless characters like Gwen, I don't blame Raimi but I didn't think they emphasised the strong female character she was in the comics. Now they improved Venom's motivations but they left out his Cancer and his Wife! Topher Grace tried his best as Venom but he just was miscast IMO. Emo Peter Parker, I'll leave that out!

What do I think of Spidey 3? It's pretty bad but ot awful, that's reserved for ones like Ghost Rider or Green Lantern. There was positive qualitys, action, score, Franco's acting, Sandman birth scene, the theme of good and evil blured. If they fixed the script for the leads and Sandman it would have went along way for me liking it.

I agree in general but she could have done with a little more zest. I think she would have been more fun to watch if she came off as much sharper in the presence of other people and we see her soften around Peter. She needed that "I'm so Hollywood" front.

Spider-Man looked plastic even then
I still love watching the movie

Anyone know if the close-up in this scene was CG or not?

The scene starts at 1:10

You sure? it looks incredible. As much as I love SM2, the CG was not the highlight for me in some of the fight scenes.
