They lost me from the start with the Peter Parker gets over MJ bit. They ended Spider-Man 3 with them reconciling.

Fans wanted Black Cat. Remember what happened when fans wanted Venom? They got what they asked for. Keep in mind there were 3 scripts written. Also, Sam Raimi confirmed a few years back that Anne Hathaway was going to play Black Cat. Yeah, I think this one's real.

Yeah but bringing Venom into Spider-Man 3 didn't balls up anything from the previous two movies. Peter dropping MJ for Black Cat after the ending to Spider-Man 3 makes no sense.

Probably one of the reasons it was cancelled. Raimi hated the scripts and he wanted to have a good script written, but that meant delaying the movie AGAIN. Sony wouldn't have it so they rebooted the franchise (bad idea).

That's the one thing that makes me glad Spider-Man 4 was scrapped.
They wouldn't damage the continuity for that series any further.

Yeah it sucks that Raimi didn't get the chance to do another Spidey film, however Im pretty happy that the first 2 films will be remembered, they're clasics and nothing can take that away from them. In a way there are levels in which these films won't be topped, the new Spider-Man will be conected to the MCU which is great but its success will have a lot to do with interacting with other characters which is necessary after the last 2 disasters. So in that sense Raimi's trilogy will be the best standalone Spiderman franchise while hopefully the new Spidey is as great in its shared universe.

That's why Sony is in the mess it's in now. Moral of the story? Don't mess with the director if they've proven themselves. Just let them do their own thing.

Isn't it sad when people on a forum have more logic than studio executives? I just can't understand why they wouldn't let Sam Raimi make the movie he wants to make after two successful films in a row. The wasted potential...

I highly doubt MJ was to be cut down significantly for SM4. Raimi, Maguire and Dunst were a unit.

It would have been the first CBM to break the so called third movie curse, too.

Yeah, even with all it's flaws Spider-Man 3 still got a fresh critical rating overall and made a mint at the box office. That's a movie Raimi had no creative control over. Even under pressure and terrible working conditions he still did good.

I think without the dancing scenes and Venom's little amount of screentime, the fans wouldn't hate it so much 'cause even with those aspects most of the general audience loves it.

For any of the posters here who were much younger when the first movie came out, did you notice the change? Did you question it and wonder why it was such? Me, it totally went over my head in 2002, and that was a big year for me. I was drowing myself in Spider-Man media anyway I could. I was already a fan long before the movie came along, so naturally all I would have known was mechanical shooters. The old Fox cartoon and the 1978 show specifically was what I was drawn to during those days, and some Ultimate Spider-Man comics too, as well as a bunch of toys . But when the movie came out, organic webbing went completely over my head, I just recognized he had webbing and didn't give it a second though. This even continued onwards to Spider-Man 2 and 3. It just never dawned on me till the first Amazing Spider-Man movie when mechanicals came back into the picture. By that time, for some reason...I just didn't care form them anymore. At first I thought I was just in a "either or" category. But the more I thought about it and rewatched the Raimi movies I just ended up preferring them exclusively. Anyway, back to the original question, when you were younger during the time of the Raimi triology, did the difference occur to you?

Yeah I did notice they were not mechanical webshooters but I didn't care. They did the same job, fired the same way from his wrists. So it was all good to me.

Me too. And I preferred organics for a number of years until I got used to the mechanical webshooters in the comics and every other animated show.

I also didn't realize that the spider was supposed to be radioactive at the time. I was just a small kid...
