Yes. Just to task the costume designers. We would've gotten the red and black suit. Perhaps the Ben Reilly suit.

If the series went on longer do you think there'd have been more dramatic alterations to the costume?

Nope.

I don't think Raimi was interesting in having the series go on too long and i don't think comic book movies were at that point where it was cool to change outfits each movie.

The Batman movies were doing that more than a decade before though.

I think with the Spider-Man films the first one really hit it out of the park that today a lot of the new costumes just have changes made for change sake like Orange eyes or bland bands.

Wasn't Raimi gonna do the Vulture for his doomed Spider-man 4 project? I wonder how it would've been compared to what we got this week.

Was supposed to be played by John Malkovich, which sounds like perfect casting, really.

Sony would never invest in Vulture when Raimi was around. I'd say they're dumb but it's been proven multiple times over.

Yeah they knew they nailed it first time. It did change a tiny bit over the series but it took me ages to even notice.

I don't really mind the ever-changing costumes. It's all good fun, and there's a ton of looks from the comics to exploit. It makes sense that these heroes would update their gear for the most part.

Saw homecoming and I think my main flaw was the fact the Rami just did too good of a job tonally with Spider-man. Holland was great and I think really nails but I think it's kind of hard to compare because I think it's more like Geek/Nerd when it comes to Rami parker vs. Homecoming Parker.

Anyway.... seeing a shot very similar to this in Homecoming makes me wonder if they used anything from the dropped SM4 script (which happens alot in these films)

Still mad that we never got Spider-man 4

Saw Homecoming. SM2 and SM1 are still at the top for me.

Yeah, Spider-Man 1 and 2 are still easily at the top for me. I think that Raimi captured the tone for Spider-Man perfectly with those first two movies.

Homecoming was really good though, and Tom Holland may very well be the best Spider-Man actor to date. I was never expecting to love Homecoming as much as Spider-Man 1 & 2, so I'm not disappointed with the film at all. All I wanted was a Spider-Man movie that's better than Spider-Man 3, and I most certainly got it with Homecoming.

I see potential with this new Spidey ... Potential for greatness. Homecoming was a step in the right direction. Let's hope Sony doesn't screw the pooch again.

Not Raimi-specific, but the Washington Post ranked what they feel are the order for Spider-Man films. I'll save you the clicks.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2017/07/07/all-six-spider-man-movies-ranked-from-best-to-worst/?tid=sm_tw&utm_term=.39b46bdc0196

1. Spider-Man 2
2. Homecoming
3. Spider-Man
4. Amazing Spider-Man 2
5. Amazing Spider-Man
6. Spider-Man 3

It's one thing to have both Webb films before 3, in my opinion, but Amazing 2 BEFORE the first one? Even Jameson would have some questions. I mean, Spider-Man 3 ain't a perfect film, but it's not some massive mess.

Even taking inflation out of it, it's still unlikely any new Spider-Man film will be challenging the 400 million+ Spider-Man 1 grossed at the box office domestically 15 years ago.

Just shows you what a phenomenon that film was when it was released back then. The Dark Knight is still the only other super-hero film with a similar pop-culture impact (albeit somewhat greater actually).

I think my ranking would be:

Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man
Spider-Man 3
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 and then Spider-Man for me are still ahead of Homecoming. When it comes to 3rd I dunno yet. It's between TASM and HC. I need more viewings. But I also still do enjoy SM3 a lot despite its flaws, it's the Raimi universe and the trilogies conclusion. It's gonna take a while I think to really make a definitive rankings list. I need more viewings of HC and I won't be seeing it again until blu ray. And I should do a marathon of all the Raimi and Webb films again.

Interesting you say that- at my local Best Buy, I've seen a Blu Ray box set that includes all five Spider-Man films from Raimi to Webb.

I get the collector's value, but I don't entirely understand including two different series of Spider-Man when they're of different continuities. At least with the Superman box set, Superman Returns is technically meant to be a continuation of the Donner films. Where as the Webb films are their own, new storyline.

Ditto for me. I liked Homecoming, don't get me wrong. The thing is, Raimi got so much right with those first two movies that it's clear the filmmakers that have come after have to bend over backwards not to repeat them.

I think Homecoming did a very admirable job keeping things fresh and was exactly what it needed to be, and better than I expected it to be, but you just can't mess with the classics. Those movies are the very reason a movie like Homecoming can exist. Also, while I think the writing of Homecoming was pretty sharp and on par with Spidey 1 and 2, in terms of the cinematography/action/style...it's not at all on the level of what Raimi did. The Raimi movies just have a certain quirkiness and charm to them that adds to their timeless quality. Homecoming was often hilarious, but it felt very in line with the tone and humor of other MCU films.

I guess I am probably biased because those first two Raimi films had such an impact on me and I was the perfect age when they came out to really connect with Peter's journey, but I do think while they haven't aged perfectly- they've aged pretty damn well and remain monumental films in the genre. I could definitely see the argument for Homecoming being the best representation of Peter/Spider-Man as a character though.

Now see, this is a thing that I think is both a pro and con as far as Homecoming goes when comparing it with the Raimi and even Webb films. With Spider-Man in the MCU, sure, you're getting a new slate of Peter Parker stories, but you're also getting a Spider-Man film that feels like one of many MCU films with similar beats or looks.

Whereas with Raimi and Webb, sure, they weren't part of any larger cinematic world, but because they were on their own, their styles and humor feel a bit more unique because they're in a standalone world. With Homecoming, though, it'll no doubt have that humor we expect from Spider-Man, and some of that will feel organic, but I wager a chunk of it could probably be cut and paste into any of the other MCU films as of recent.

Though can only go off of this based on what I've heard since have yet to see the film.

I agree about the formal aspects of the film. Even the ASM movies, as hard as for me to admit it, had better cinematography and overall visuals than homecoming. Hopefully they step up that part of the film in the sequel.

Understand that Watts directed the film with a certain understated modesty, because at heart this is a character driven high school film. It wasn't trying to be 'spectacular' or 'bigger then life' to the degree the Raimi films were. He wasn't swinging from 100 storey skyscrapers in Queens. The overall style suited the film. It was obviously a conscious effort to move away from the past three over-budgeted, bloated Spidey films, where 'spectacle' trumped character, which isn't at the core of what Spider-Man is. This was back to basics. It cost 60 million less then TASM, 85 million less then SM3, and 100 million less then TASM2.

I'd assume that most folks understand and recognize that, but that doesn't mean they can't appreciate/prefer the cinematography, visuals, and action of the Raimi films over what they saw in Homecoming.

And despite being a more grounded/suburban take on the character, there were still a couple of pretty big action set pieces that could line up with the Raimi films in terms of size/scope -- ferry ship packed with civilians splitting in half (falling trolley cars in SM1), airborne battle on and around a massive plane that is heading for a crash landing (battle on and around a runaway train in SM2), etc.

Sure, I'm just giving some context.
