Spider-Man The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread - Part 1 of 99 Luft - - - - Part 13

I think Raimi was pretty honest about what happened with Spider-Man 3. At the end of the day, Raimi loved that classic era of the Lee/Ditko stories, and he did not care for Venom as a character, and you could tell. Putting the black suit and Venom in the movie was too much. No one got enough time.

The thing of it is, though… Venom wasn’t the only problem with 3. At least IMO.

Sandman didn’t really bring it either, and he falls squarely within that Lee/Ditko era.

Well they cut out a lot of the Sandman material, and IMHO they had to service three different villains.

Yeah I think that would have been better. I feel like Sandman was almost redundant in 3. He disappears for a lot of the movie after symbiote Spidey "kills" him in the sewer.

There was no reason to dredge up Uncle Ben's death like that. It was handled nicely in the first movie.

I still maintain that they should have cut Sandman, and that terrible Uncle Ben death retcon, and gave more screen time to Venom/Brock and Harry as the main villains.

Interesting. I do like Sandman in SM3 (or at least the promise of his character introduction) but maybe it does make more sense to have cut him entirely. You lose some interesting set pieces but you also save yourself about 30 minutes of screentime to dedicate elsewhere.

Lol I hate to say this, but I still maintain that Avi Arad was right to push for Venom. Especially since Raimi came up with the theme—the symbiote was the right vehicle to explore Peter’s pride. And it’s nice that the Raimi trilogy has all three marquee Spidey villains.

SM3’s story is “forgiveness vs. revenge” though. If you cut Sandman, what’s Peter’s resolution to that theme? Maybe something with Brock…

Spider-man 3 is my ''it's messy and convoluted, but I love it!'' movie. I remember my friends leaving the theatre rather underwhelmed by it back in the day and it certainly didn't have the kick of 1 & 2, but I still had a good time.

I have an even better time with it now, especially knowing it was my last proper swing with this version of Spidey. A version that just hasn't been topped as far as I'm concerned.

One of the trailers has only one or maybe two brief shots of Sandman, it really makes it seem like Harry and Eddie are the only villains in the film, and it looks really good.

To be honest, I can see the logic in dropping Sandman from SM3 but only in hindsight. Sandman was the villain for the film and for Raimi at the time. The earliest work on the film was getting those sand effects going. The film existed without Venom for quite a while, with that character shoved in later. If these decisions were made when the story was being crafted then maybe, but the train was already moving and Marko was already baked in.

Probably not something I’ll get, but it looks good…

It's definitely real but it's such a random choice that I have a hard time believing this isn't an April Fools prank. I'm just curious what the occasion is because we're still two years away from Spider-Man 3's....*deep exhale*...20th anniversary. :csad:

It's not really a random choice. They made a new Tobey figure for NWH and this is an easy repaint to do with it that will sell. I figured this would be made eventually when I saw the NWH Tobey Legends figure the first time

Oh Black Suit Spidey is a solid choice for a ML figure, the timing of it is the random part. The only time Hasbro's really done Marvel Legends for pre-MCU movies was for the 20th anniversary of the X-Men movies five years ago.

Technically more recent cause they did all the NWH figures. They also did a really random Nicholas Hammond Spider-Man recently! But yeah, this figure is only happening now cause they got the mold made for Tobey. Gotta make that money lol

It also fits in with them making figures of the different suits from the Insomniac Spider-Man games since Black Suit Tobey was one of the more popular additions to the second game.

That was my default skin lol

Emo Spidey is an action figure grail. Likeness could be better but I'm on board haha.

I'll be picking that up for sure. Plus,I have the Hot toys Black suit Spidey coming soon. I've completely run out of room when it comes to my Raimi trilogy collection. :spidey::sym:
