The Dark Knight Rises The Official Jim Gordon / Gary Oldman Thread

Really? If anything the 8 year gap would have been a great way to make Gordon mostly grey. His hair color doesn't look much different at all here.

I dunno. I personally think his hair looked a lot darker in Begins and TDK. Oldman's hair in the spy photos we have remind me of my parents hair when they started going grey. They didn't get obvious streaks. It just looked like the colour of their hair was getting lighter/duller. That's what Oldman looks like to me, but I could be wrong and it might just be the lighting in the spy photos. As we know, film is colour corrected, so this could be a moot point.

Nevertheless, I still think Oldman's look overall gives the impression of Gordon being a good deal older and in general pretty worn down. His suits used to have a bit more athletic cut to them that highlighted that he is skinny and in good shape. The new wardrobe is baggy (see his new overcoat) and seems designed more for comfort (eg. the sweater vest). Oldman's weight gain and looser skin go a long way to selling this. His face looks haggard like it should. His face seemed a lot tighter in the past films (see above). Also, the longer hair contributes to experienced look. It makes it seem like he doesn't have the time or the energy for haircuts or upkeep. He's let himself go a little.

Call me crazy, but I think there is a pretty distinct shift from young, go-getter Lt./Captain Gordon (eg. Year One or the Long Halloween) to iconic grizzled old Commissioner Gordon. I'm loving it! :woot:

I think I'll miss Gary Oldman's Jim Gordon the most from the Nolan batmovies. He is perfect in every way.

I agree. Gordon has always been my favorite non-Batman Batman character, and Gary Oldman (as well as the Nolans, of course) bring him to life perfectly. He's definitely my favorite part of these films.

I was amazed how much he looked like the year one Gordon.

I second that. I'll miss Morgan's Lucius quite a bit, too - especially if he gets killed, which I expect him to be.

So many characters that I'm going to miss. Gary's Gordon is right up there :( never had a problem with him.

Gary Oldman should play Jim Gordon even after TDKR. I can't see anyone else playing Gordon.

That man is a legend. The best actor to appear in Nolan's trilogy... Yeah I said it!

It's almost unthinkable for me to think of any other actor as Gordon besides Oldman. However, if I had to pick someone, it'd be Bryan Cranston (Walt from Breaking Bad). He'd be perfect.

Heck, after the end of the episode 'Crawl Space' I'd give him a shot at The Joker too were he younger... that scene was so remiscent of 'The Man who Laughs' it was eerie.

I agree, seeing this end is going to be an emotional thing for me. Losing Oldman as Gordon is sad; he's been the greatest embodiment of the character and i hope TDKR gives him some great work to do

I'd be prepared for Gary Oldman to pull a Pat Hingle... not that he ever would. :woot:

He is my favourite version of the character hands down and will be the actor I miss the most when this trilogy is over.

I don't think that's too far from the truth.

Obviously Heath was mesmerising in TDK, but Oldman was the shining light, for me. His acting carried the movie.

Watching him on Conan right now. He just did an impression of Joe Pesci that had them rolling.

"Our boy sure looks good on the tube!"

One of my favorite scenes from TDK, can't wait to see what debauchery Gordon gets himself into this time.

Oldman should get is own spinoff tv-series as Gordon. :woot:

Uh, how about Gotham Central...?

haha.

Btw, watched BEGINS last night; you can really feel the age difference of Gordon between then and now. So cool, to have Oldman grow into the great character.
