Best troll face ever.

Is that a description of an actual episode of Jersey Shore?

From '10 Reasons Why We Need TDKR Now'...

7. We’ve missed Gary Oldman’s Commissioner Gordon
We loved his Sirius Black cameo in last year’s final “Harry Potter” and just this year Oldman earned his first Oscar nomination — for an ace performance in “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” — but it’s still not the same as Commissioner Gordon. In many ways the heart and soul of Nolan’s trilogy, we’ve seen Gordon rise from beat cop all the way to Commissioner and his (fake) death was one of the most wrenching elements of “The Dark Knight.” We don’t know what’s in store for Gordon in the final film, but the idea of seeing Oldman in the role one more time is as irresistible as anything else we expect from “The Dark Knight Rises.”

I'm glad you bumped this because I've had some musings recently about Gordon's story this time around. In particular, I was just re-watching TDK and I noticed Gordon's wedding band and that got me thinking. I wonder if Barbara will have left him by TDKR as she did in the comics. TDK did make some references to his job straining their marriage. For instance, Ramirez asking Gordon if he's ever going to go home and see his wife, the whole episode with him faking his death, and of course, her and the kids being kidnapped by Dent. Has anyone noticed if Gordon is wearing a wedding band in any of the spy or set photos? I've tried looking and haven't found a clear shot of his left hand.

Dude, OMG, you actually read my mind!!!!

My 2 very basic predictions for TDKR since TDK was that the next villain would find out Batman's identity, and that Gordon's marraige would break up - and I still think they'll come to pass...

I used to write fan fic and as much as I LOVE Jim and Barbara, it was always natural for me to write them breaking up after the end of TDK - I wrote her as being angry with Jim for covering up for Harvey Dent. She couldn't reconcile the fact that he'd let a man who'd put a gun to their son's head be seen as a hero. And judging from her "you did this!" to Batman in TDK when she thought Jim had died, she'd a hard enough time with the notion of her husband working with Batman in the first place.

From the little glimpses I can see of Gordon's left hand... it's not looking good... there doesn't appear to be a ring on there. And there's no Barbara or Melinda McGraw listed on the TDKR IMDB page, so I'm heartbroken. And it's 8 years later so I'm expecting her to have moved back to Chicago and that 18-yr-old Jimmy and 13-year-old-Babs don't really see their father. I'd give anything for Jim and Barb and the family to still be together and I'll still hold onto a little hope - maybe, as in the comics, they'll reconcile at the end??

It's interesting to me that though Oldman has third billing and Gordon is such a major character we've hardly seen much from him. Only the teaser had much of an emphasis on him.

Gary as Gordon is one case of perfect casting IMO. Can't wait to see how he leaves the role.

Wow, I'm majorly surprised that he even has third billing!!! He was way down the list in the other two!! Amazing what an Oscar nom will do!!!

It really is so annoying there's so little of him shown in the promos, but I know how he ends up in hosptial (there's a quick flash of him right before hosp. in the trailer where you might figure it out, and no, it's not the explosion), and I guess it'd be hard to show clips in the trailer without giving definitive stuff away...

For me, if Gordo got his own spin-off, it wouldn't be enough for me... and I feel indebted to Nolan for casing my fave actor in the whole wide world to play my fave comic-book character, and to Gary Oldman for portraying Gordon so much better that I could have dreamed and for... well, pretty much exisiting. Bless you Mummy and Daddy Oldman!!!

It could be amazing if they decided to make a tv show ala Gotham Central, or if they adaptated Gordon's law or Gordon of Gotham as tv shows.

This!

From the production notes:

Part of his plan requires neutralizing the police department, still led by Commissioner Gordon, although “to a certain extent, Gordon was more useful to the political leaders of Gotham when the city was overrun by organized crime,” Nolan points out. “Now that is under control, so there are people eyeing his job, presuming he’s no longer needed. But Gordon has been struggling with the fact that all of this is based on a false foundation.”

“It’s a secret that’s eaten away at him for years,” confirms Gary Oldman. “Crime is at an all-time low in Gotham, but Gordon knows that it’s tainted. Now he’s ready to come clean, but there doesn’t seem to be a right time or place, and he also questions if the city is ready for the truth. Then, because of Bane, he’s in the field again. I think he’s like a soldier who likes to be on the front lines, getting his hands dirty. He’s probably been doing a lot of paper pushing in the intervening years and that has dampened his spirits. Now you really feel like the old Gordon is back.”

For MrsJimGordon! :awesome:

I hope we get this scene!

Rookie cop: Commissioner, Bane just escaped from prison.

Gordon: See, I knew this was gonna happen. Call headquarters and tell them I need everyone.

Rookie cop: Everyone?

Gordon: EEEEVVEREEEEyyyOONNNNNEEE!!!!!!

It's so great that Gordon has got the gray hair this time around. I knew it was coming, he's looking more like his BTAS counterpart every movie!
