I'm not a big fan of those CGI masks, but this patina of luminous greens meeting the grit of a detective series is what I'm hoping for here.
I'm currently rewatching X-Files, and there are a few episodes in the early seasons that have this mix of darkness and fantastic strangeness that strikes me as close to what I'm imagining here...

Regarding the fan edit, I definitely think Hal and John suit up in the series, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they ditched the domino mask on Hal’s part.

The domino mask is iconic. I'd be bummed if they did tbh.

....Because he wore a black t-shirt? He literally looked like Dr. Manhattan is supposed to look.

Because Dr Manhattan is supposed to be a baby blue, white-eyed construct of pure “intrinsic field.” But he just looked like a regular human being, with regular eyes and uneven skin, just painted dark blue.

Yes, he briefly glowed, but even that effect just looked like a glow effect applied to someone painted blue. At no point did he look like an electromagnetic/strong/weak field. And I feel certain that was just a cop out on the cost of the effect.

HBO is not some backyard production studio lol they did not skimp on costs for that. Definitely a creative choice. Not one of compromise.

One thing, love or hate Damon Lindelof, is that the Watchmen series did give us a comic accurate Ozymandias costume. I'm hoping we get a really awesome GL suit design.

Man, I love the Watchmen series. It captured the spirit of the comic, AND was a great sequel / contemporary interpretation of it.

Every artist I've seen talking about having to draw Kyle's mask said it was a total pain in the butt. That said, it is a cool mask... but I think you have to give Hal his mask, at least for one action sequence, especially if we don't see him for a long, long time...

And I'm hopeful with Lindelof on board pushing for it. Maybe that's a false hope, but eh lol.

NGL - curious to see how they handle R-rated stuff moving forward regarding merchandise. McFarlane made some stuff based on both Jokers, The Suicide Squad and ZSJL (lol) which were all R, but I wonder if Mattel ever does anything for Clayface/Sgt. Rock/Lanterns/Waller/Peacemaker

They did also note adult collectibles in the press release, so I don’t figure they would shun that stuff. But idk…

I will say, though, I’m glad to see DC back in bed with a company that will prioritize animation, considering Spin Master couldn’t ****ing be bothered with it, despite being geared towards all ages. There should be a ton of My Adventures with Superman figures already.
