The Official Lanterns News & Discussion Thread

You're just reminding me how much I miss HBO Max. 😭

My guess is Lily no longer subscribes...

If this show actually hits with the audience, I'm curious to see if they keep GL on tv or if they shift to a movie.
I'm hoping that'll be the case. I have to wonder if part of the thinking when they greenlit this was to rehabilitate the brand for that to happen down the line?

I could see the rumored Rogues project doing something similar for The Flash.

^ definitely could see that happening with the flash as well. Unfortunately, both green lantern and the flash were huge box office disappointments so it's going to take some rehabilitation.

I do see a way back for Green Lantern to the big screen because the material does lend itself to a movie.

The flash, unfortunately, I could see them going to a tv series route.

I mean, for as much as we harp on the Reynolds movie, let’s keep in mind that it’ll be a fifteen year gap between that movie and this series. Whether it’s a Green Lantern Corps film or a GL presence in a Justice League project, I don’t think the 2011 movie will prove to be insurmountable if this show goes well and those movies are appealing enough.

The Flash, however… yeah. Those are some very fresh wounds.

I'd personally be okay if they revisit The Flash via a new show since its been proven to work. Especially when considering the increase in production value for an HBO show as compared to something on the CW.

I'm really hoping the Rogues series happens.

Do we know who's going to direct the first episode yet? Also, did someone report today who the composer is, or did I dream that up?

EDIT: I'll answer myself. James Hawes is directing the first two episodes. No composer reported yet. Just Rebecca Rienks as executive in charge of music.

Now the question becomes how many sci-fi scripts has she read, heh.

The only thing that has kept that movie in the public is Reynolds himself with Deadpool. I think everyone forgot about it the moment it came out. So I definitely agree with you there.

The flash really bothers me, why they turned that into a Batman movie is beyond me. Especially for his big screen debut that was a huge missed opportunity. This Rogues tv show rumour is very interesting to me and could be the way back in.

It annoys me when Reynolds does that...

Isn't Max the same exact thing, but with a slightly different name?
It's a stupid name that's just another blue streaming service. I miss when it was purple.

The movie is basically Flashpoint with Keaton's Batman instead of Thomas Wayne Batman and Supergirl instead of Skinny Superman.

I think Flashpoint being The Flash's solo movie debut storyline was just... a big mistake. Idk, maybe if I liked the actor that played Barry Allen, I would have felt differently. I've never cared for Ezra Miller's portrayal for Barry one bit. I did enjoy the first two or three seasons of the TV series though!

Can't wait until we get some set photos leaks... getting closer to that day, hopefully!

I also just finished collecting every single issue of the Kyle Rayner run! I do hope we get Kyle some day down the road...

I’d be willing to bet that WB’s (not entirely unreasonable) assumption at the time was that when you’re giving a film to a character who was still holding down a semi-popular TV series, you’ll probably want to juice up the spectacle as much as possible. Flash vs. Captain Cold wouldn’t do it, so maybe Flash vs. a collapsing timeline would. With Keaton’s Batman included as a Hail Mary.

The problem is that it was coming off a string of sketchy ass movies, so it was too little too late, and it’s star had an on-screen presence no one much cared for and an off-screen presence that was a ****ing nightmare.

Tbh, aside from the most glaring combination of bad CG and ghoulish use of real world likenesses I’ve ever seen, I actually did have a decent time with that one and feel like the people the people who slap it with the “worst CBM ever” title are suffering from a twisted form of recency bias. But like I said, it was too little too late anyway.

I also don’t think it’s particularly honest to say they turned it into a Batman movie either. It was thoroughly a Flash movie, and if anything, I felt they kind of shortchanged the Keaton fans who were hoping for more.

Yeah, the problem with Flash (other than bad CGI) was Ezra. He was all over the film and it turned me off personally. At first I thought it was his personal issues but after seeing the movie a second time recently, Ezra was not good as Barry Allen.

The real reason the film failed was because they never found a way to put this song in the movie:
