This has been overstated, but it is THE DAMN TRUTH!

there can be only one... whether they use him in this one or the next:

zane looks like lex ill give him that much!

He looks the part, he sounds the part, and he does have a certain Lex charm in certain cases...but solid acting wise? Not so much. Shame really.

While he hasn't been in the best films in the world, the guy isn't a bad actor. However , i'd like to see Synder make a more inspired choice for Lex much like he did with Russel Crowe, Amy Adams, and Lawerence Fishburne.

I really just don't think "Lex Luthor" when I think of Zane. I still wouldn't mind Patrick Wilson or Joaquin Phoenix as Lex though.

I think he reminds too many people of the animated series Luthor. That isn't a bad thing, I just can't see the hate for Zane as Lex?

Zane should be Snyder's gofer.

Amazing how both Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey were capable of giving really strong Lex portrayals but were steered wrong. A shame really.

I think Yul Brynner if here were alive and young would be the choice for all seasons.

My issue with Zane is that he comes off like a pompous *****e in everything, and I think that's how he would play Lex Luthor. Granted, there is an upper crust arrogance that Lex must have, but I also see him as someone who is an insanely hard worker. Whether they go with the "born into riches" version of Lex or the "came from nothing and made himself an icon" version, I still see Lex as someone who feels that he is better than the average man because he has actually accomplished so many things and is capable of doing so much more.

I think Zane would come across as a guy who has never worked a day in his life and spends his days lounging by the pool and banging various Kardashians.

Also, Zane is too old. In my opinion, Lex needs to be a similar age to Clark but a little older. My preferred interpretation is a combination of the pre-Crisis mad scientist and the post-Crisis corrupt industrialist. I think he should be a brilliant scientist/inventor who has parlayed his brilliance into wealth and power as CEO of some sort of technology firm. Like in the Golden Age, his end goal should be world dominance and power (just through more insidious methods) A younger Lex would reflect the current trend of young technology billionaires.

Also, in the sequels, Superman's defeat and humiliation of Lex could serve as his impetus for hatred/revenge and restore his power through less conventional methods (using black projects from his former company as the means).

I hope they cast paul rudd, because he is funnier than gene hackman.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I want to see too. The Birthright Lex was almost the ideal Lex for me; if they have that style of Lex only a little more subtle, he'll be perfect.

I was just thinking, what if lex started out as a politician, and each movie(if we get more) he keeps winning and eventually runs for president, but that's when supes takes him down before he does....what do you guys and gals think?

Agreed.

But i'd rather they didn't go the route of Clark and Lex being friends in Smallville.

NAILED IT. That's my preferred LEX LUTHOR as well.

dont know any good young actors henry's age who would make a good lex tho maybe cavill's tudors co star JRM

I also like the idea of a young Lex, someone who's built his own path to success with technological brilliance, and who has his hands in some very shady side-projects. Alexander Skarsgard would be amazing as Lex. He can easily handle the arrogance and the brilliance, the charm and the darker edge.

Yes, the Birthright Lex, minus the Smallville backstory, is the perfect Lex to me.

Skarsgaard's an interesting suggestion. I'd never thought of him before, but I could see it.

I feel the same way. The notion of the superhero knowing his enemy before he becomes a supervillain has become so cliche.

But I doubt I need to concern myself with this until the sequel since I've come to believe that we won't be getting Lex in this movie.
