The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

It's not always about the actors actual age, but how old they look in the role.

JRM might be in his 30s but he has a very youthful appearance to me, a boyishness that puts me off him for the role. And personally I don't care if he played King Henry... That does not tell me he can play Lex Luthor the way I'd like him to be portrayed.

Spacey was only 45 when cast? I'm genuinely surprised because he looks as old as my dad, who is 60.

Having the right look, finding the right 'age' is all so complicated. It's not just as simple as saying 'right, we want an actor who is 40 and will shave off his hair.

He has to look the right kind of 40 if that makes any sense.

ahh typical you need to be 40 to be a man fanboyism

reminds me of star trek 90210 lol
That Star Trek 90210 thing never made a lick of sense because only one teenager was in the cast. Most of the cast was in their late 20's to late 30's and with the except of the actual teenager in the cast none of them looked like teenagers unless one has been totally brained washed by Hollywood and believe grown ass adults look like teenagers.

Chris Pine.
Maybe I'll get flack for this and maybe this is the fangirl in me speaking but I would be very happy with him playing the role because I think he is very talented and could do it. I don't see him being available though because he has a lot on his plate.

I don't have a problem with a 28 to 50 year old playing the role. I just want the 50 year old to have a more youthful energy than the older versions of the character and the 28 year should know how to act. I mean the Joker was played by a 28 year old, why can't Lex?

I want somebody to go find Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan and throw Ralph Fiennes name into their FACESSSS!!!!#$@#r!@#$

Ralphy boy! looks good bald and a really good actor as well.
When i get home tonight Ill make a Lex of him.
Plus he is CEO age

ralph is too obvious and especially after playing voldermort for 10 years lol

Despite playing Voldemort, I'd be all for Fiennes as Lex, unless he sleepwalks through the performance like he did in Crap of the Titans.

I'm gonna go with Project862006. This would just be too heavy typecasting with Fiennes. Add to that the lack of freshness and youth.

Fiennes would be great. I can't wait for Coriolanus!

I agree. He has a lot more range than people think, which I think he proved in Smokin' Aces. If it were announced that he was cast in the role, I would think it was a cool choice, but like you said, I doubt it's even a possibility.

Also, Fiennes would be awesome and I doubt there would be anything in his performance that would remind people of Voldemort (the baldness is the only similarity). But I would still prefer a younger Lex.

Jason Isaacs
- Great charismatic actor who has the perfect rough look for Lex he is nearing 50 but he looks much younger and plays villains very well.

Daniel Craig - very good actor who has a rough look to go with his charismatic persona it owudl be a change of pace for him too since he has'nt played a villain to my recollection but could do it with ease imo
James-Bond.jpg

Tymothy Olyphant - Great Charismatic Actor who plays villian with charisma and charm but can also be sinister we know he looks good bald(hitman)
timothy-olyphant-1.jpg

Bradley Cooper - very charismatic underrated Actor imo he would bring a certain high class rich prodigy smugness to lex that i think would work brilliantly and i would love to see him work as a villain
Bradley-Cooper-Man-of-Steel.jpg

Cooper as Luthor would be hilariously bad.

Has he ever played menacing or a serious threat before?

He can play a smug *****e, but if anything that's way more of Guy Gardner than Lex Luthor.

Jason Statham, I like Lex to be imposing, scary, and brutal.

Think a Lex who is as Imposing as Robert Downey is charasmatic as Stark.

I like your list....I wonder if any of these are being looked at

My choice would be Patrick Wilson. Strong actor and one of the younger of the bunch. Also, his face reminds me of Lex from All-Star Superman. I agree Cooper could probably do a great job of capturing Luthor's smugness and superiority complex, but I think Wilson could do a better job of digging deeper into the character and lending some sympathy and relate-ability to the character.

Tymothy Olyphant is a badass in Justified and would be an awesome Lex, i doubt FX would let him shave his head tho

I remember when people thought he was too wimpy to be a Die Hard villain.
