It's not always about the actors actual age, but how old they look in the role.
JRM might be in his 30s but he has a very youthful appearance to me, a boyishness that puts me off him for the role. And personally I don't care if he played King Henry... That does not tell me he can play Lex Luthor the way I'd like him to be portrayed.
Spacey was only 45 when cast? I'm genuinely surprised because he looks as old as my dad, who is 60.
Having the right look, finding the right 'age' is all so complicated. It's not just as simple as saying 'right, we want an actor who is 40 and will shave off his hair.
He has to look the right kind of 40 if that makes any sense.
