My wife suggested Hugh Laurie. I was thinking of some of the stuff he's done in house and he might be bale to pull it off. I know he's older but it might work...idk.

Bradley Cooper certainly has the Lex smugness, but he's almost too unlikeable. I don't think he has the charm needed.

People Mag wouldn't know sexy if it bit them on the ass. Ryan Gosling is sexy and so is M. Fassbender. Bradley Cooper is an attractive male but not in movie star world. It's not just about looks either he just isn't sexy. He's cute and that's it.

Look, all I was saying was that some people seem to like him. Limitless, despite being mediocre crap, was a pretty big hit, and so were the Hangover movies. So he must have some appeal with audiences. I don't know if he'd be right for Lex; all I'm saying is that just because message board fanboys find him unlikeable doesn't mean everybody does.

Oh I'm sure female audience members love him, not that any 'Sexiest Man Alive' award really means anything anyway - magazines simply put in contenders who happen to be flavour of the month, or promoting a new book/film.

The fact remains that I don't think he's anywhere near charming enough to play Lex. I see Lex as suave, persuasive, almost chilling in how he can manipulate people whilst still pretending he's their best friend. I don't get any sense of that from Cooper. He had the perfect opportunity to showcase a suave approach when he played Face in The A-Team, but even there he was still a bit brash and rough round the edges, he didn't have even half the charm of the original - Dirk Benedict.

But again, this is just my opinion. If everyone else thinks the guy is hugely charming and is the sexiest man alive, who am I to question it.

As previously pointed out, he is English and as he is an actor he might be able to do accents as well.

He is also quite physically formidable and I would like to see that in Lex Luthor. Not necessarily see him beating down on someone, but just the vibe you get. Something along the lines of "You don't want to mess with this M.F."

Mmm, yes. Cooper does nothing for me but I have no doubt that there are women who find him sexy. Sexiness and even charm aren't characteristics I normally associate with Lex, though. I agree with Deathlok that he should have a formidable personality. He should project an air of authoritativeness.

Agreed on both counts.

I think Cooper's cute, and he's got nice eyes. I really loved him in Alias. But watching Limitless, I totally don't get the massive obsession with him being sexy... He failed at even pretending to be sexy in the movie for me.

For Lex tho, like you said it's gotta be a weird kind of charm.

Not a fitting that has the girls falling all over him, but someone whose looks are sort of distinguished and who has a natural charisma of effortless power.

There are plenty of actors suggested that I think could pull that off. Like Clive Owen

I don't know if a smug Luthor is the goal, unless you're going from the narrative angle that Luthor isn't actually jealous of Superman but just wants to take him down a peg for even thinking about being on his level.

The type of charm I see Lex having is similar to Chris Noth when he played Mr Big in Sex and the City. And no, I don't watch it .... but my gf has the box sets so I've been subjected to the odd scene!

He's not a Brad Pitt lookalike, and he doesn't ooze smugness like Cooper does, but he's got this supreme confidence in himself which seems to attract women to him. His very paced & neutral line delivery (he never seems to get worked up) reminds me a little of Lex too - someone always in control.
