The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

I don't really see why he has to be young or physically imposing. His physical condition is meaningless against Superman anyway. Seriously though, why is it always young, young, young anymore? The Kents have to be young, Lex has to be young, Perry has to be young. It's like anyone who was initially written as middle aged or older is being de-aged. I thought one of net-land's pet peeves was Hollywood's ageism and how they always cast pretty 20-somethings in movies these days.

who is casting 20 year olds?

henry is almost 30

amy adams is 37

fishbourne is well not young at all lol

and my JRM suggestion well he is turning 35 this year

hardly 20 year olds

frankly we have had 2 older lex luthor's on screen already time for a change and make a in his prime luthor

The character is 40-50 in the comics, they should just stick to the source material.

I'm not completely against a younger looking Lex, BUT it just feels like a missed opportunity to not bring the Post-Crisis Lex to life.

A young Lex is just too much like Rosenbaum's portrayal, been there.. done that.

Yeah, but Rosenbaum was a way better Lex than Hackman and Spacey. Maybe young is the way to go?

Besides, a redhead Lois, a black Perry, a milf Martha...source material takes a back seat these days.

I think he played a better portrayal of lex, but who knows how Hackman and Spacey would have done if lex was meant to be a business man/scientist in Donner and Singers films

Hackman could definitely have played a serious Lex.

Spacey, as much as I love him, I can never take him seriously when he's meant to be acting seriously. His face makes me think that he's going to burst out laughing any second :hehe:
He worked well taking on Hackman's cheesy Lex, but a serious Lex? That's just my opinion on him though.

Maybe it has nothing to do with how old or young the actor is, it's just their presence. JRM has a very good Lex-like presence :D

superman films has had their chance to do an older lex 2 times and failed horribly both times hackman and spacey were god awful lex and yup they were older lex luthor's

change it up

If you count John Shea we've had 3 old Lex's. A Lex in his 30's and 40's would be ok imo, but not some dude in his 50's. I'd prefer to see a younger ambitious Lex who's at least contemparies with Clark not a 50 something CEO.

Their age had nothing to do with why their versions of Luthor were lame.

The only times, in comics and TV/Film mediums, where there has been young, boyish versions of Lex Luthor are in interpretations of Superboy stories.

Though considering Lex doesn't appear in Smallville in MoS, it doesn't sound likely they're going the route of this or Birthright for his character.

boyish LOL

no one is saying lex should be 22 lol

but a 28-36(which i am sure does'nt constitute as a boy) year old lex is what i would want and nothing wrong with that - for example Gosling,JRM,Patrick Wilson,Tom Hardy, etc

or if it is older i would prefer someone who does'nt look like a grandpa

like a mark strong,jason isaacs,daniel craig type

I actually think Cooper would be a good Lex.

Lex is the ultimate *****ebag and Cooper is great at playing *****ebags. Can't see Cooper having a bald head though...at least not right away...but for sure in the sequel.

Maybe he can just shave his head short and not completely bald?

That's IF those rumours about him making a cameo as Lex in MOS wind up being true.

Big IF though.

I could see them not showing luthor only for the fact that they wouldn't want to make a decision on an actor for a 2 second cameo.

It will be interesting to see if they do mention lexcorp at all.

Lol. A Lex who's older or the same age as Costner, Lane, and Crowe would be kinda wrong. Lex could have a reputation of course, but not old enough to be Clarks pop.

^exactly i agree

a 40 year old lex i would be fine with too guys like mark strong, daniel craig, damian lewis would be great older but not grandpa old lex's

Your logic makes no sense then. Spacey was 45 when he was cast as Lex. Nowhere near a 'grandpa'

Jason Isaacs and Viggo Mortersen would be ten times better than any of them. You can't seriously tell me either of them are too old to be incredible as Lex Luthor.

Interesting about the MoS cast is, it's generally an older cast. Cavill and Traue are the only young ones, at 28 and 30.

Adams is 37. Shannon is 37. Lane is 46. Crowe is 47. Meloni is 50. Fishbourne is 50. Costner is 56.

It's a mature cast. It isn't CW's Smallville or Twillight (Thank Zod). Cavill is the youngest of the bunch, but the other main roles are generally filled with older actors.

Gosling would be a horrible choice for Lex. He could never pull off this Luthor.

Him and Dicaprio are great actors, but completely wrong for Lex. Wrong look, wrong voice especially.
