Meloni is a very versatile actor...I like his work a lot

Meloni as an intellectual, the smartest man on Earth.. would still be a major stretch to me.

Obviously Meloni could play a villain. Stabler had borderline villain qualities (see SVU "Rage")

But Meloni comes off as way too street to play the smartest guy on the planet. It would be really awkward.

Exactly. I mean it's not like fans thought Ledger was a guy you would associate with The Joker. Same goes with Oldman as Gordon.

Ledger did the best Joker I've ever seen...I never really sat back and said, "Oh ****...they cast Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon". I wasn't really bothered by that. But when they said Ledger was going to be the Joker I thought the movie was doomed for sure

it is like having jason statham cast as lex

If Meloni turns out to be Lex down the line, then that's a subtle way of doing MOS without Lex while still very much including him.

Personally, I think the idea of Hardy turning out to be Lex is implausible. Not to mention it would be a ripoff from BB and TDKR.

But to be ethical,I'm guessing there ain't no actual Lex Luthor in the franchise, and Meloni is merely BASED on Lex...but both ways seem odd.
