I'm looking at photos like this:

Slightly darker than typical skin tone, full lips. It's possible that no one who draws cartoons knows that black people have varying skin tones, but if they do, this could very well also be a black guy, certainly he didn't get these features from an European ancestry. The fact that Clancy Brown is pasty white and in no way olive skinned doesn't add any credence to this 'looks like clancy' theory. Now it is true that he got lighter by World's Finest and continued to lighten through JL and JLU, but even then, he's a shade darker than the other characters. But, I'd love to see/hear this discussion with Timm about his ethnicity.

What a curious example! Ving Rhames' Kojak was also based on Telly Salavas' Kojak, but true to the English language, 'based on' is not a synonym of 'same race of.'

If you've been over it a lot, it may be best to have that link to whatever Timm said around.

Oh gosh..thank you. I did think it was Clancy who has olive skin, but you are right. It is Kojak!!

Yeah, have Mercy in it.


I wrote a script once where she and Lex where lovers as well as master and bodyguard.

And there was a scene where Lex was feeling pretty psychotically worked up, by means of showing no emotion. And he took this out on Mercy by having a violent, sexual time with her in his office. She enjoyed it too of course

But I suppose a very important scene of showcasing Lex's forms of rage and frustration would be cut for a PG-13 rating, meh...

He is pasty as an old man...lol. I'll give you that, but I feel like that happens to old people. He definitely had more "color" as a young man.

Though you NEVER SEEN the Highlander!!!! Shame....get thee to Netflix.

meh...Mercy is like Harley for me. I'd love to see her, but I'm okay if she's not there. It's curious someone suggested Gugino. She's currently on Political Animals and I really like her. Though, I doubt they will give Lex a henchwoman. She might remind too many of Tess.

isaacs is ideal if you want an older lex he is almost 50 but does'nt look like an old man he looks like he can kick your ass lol

I think Lex should honestly be about 40 this time around. Not as young as Smallville but not as old Hackman or Spacey. Still at his peak physically, but distinguished and still prone to bouts of immaturity regarding being bested or shown up by someone else.

I still think Jonathan Rhys Meyers would make a good Lex.

Darker toned Lex... I thought maybe of the guy from 300. Seemed to have a deep voice like I picture that Lex from the cartoon having. He also has ties to Snyder but I really don't know just throwing it out there. He's a pretty good actor though. Strong. Young. Can be very charming and still intimidating the way I personally would like to see Lex portrayed.

This is true, I hope they handle his foreshadowing better than Norman Osborn in TASM. That was horribly awkward and anti-climactic.

It really could be as simple as someone bringing a business executive a sample of Superman's DNA from the final battle. Happy times.

My suggestions if Lex becomes the villain for a sequel:

I believe that if Lex Luthor was to be portrayed on film, he's got to have some kind of charm to him. Maybe through his mannerisms, slight humor, or even condescending attitude, the actor should have something special to add to the character

- James Franco. I know this may sound unusual but he's a proven actor. He'll add something to Lex to give him some likeability as a villain even though you'll be hating Lex's guts throughout the film

- Terry O'Quinn. If you're looking for someone older, then you've got an actor who can bring experience to the role. His track record tells it all. Unfortunately, it also tells you that he's most comfortable doing television series and appearances.

- Daniel Day-Lewis. Now, this is very ambitious. We all know he can act. I mean, come on. We all know he can REALLY act. He will do wonders with Lex Luthor, taking it to places we wouldn't expect. If WB ever lands this guy, it'll be super-orgasmic.

James Franco is an inspired choice. Good call. Terry O'Quinn looks too much like Hackman, imho, I'd rather not have that. Day-Lewis would indeed be a big win. Very nice choices.

OMG....This is a seriously inspired choice and totally out of left field, so I appreciate it. He is hansome, but he can also play a magnificient jerk. That is a pre-req for me when it comes to Lex.
