A extremely successful, inventor, and corporate CEO with strong ties to both the Government, as well as influential political figures. Lex's public perception, as it goes, would be that of something that would be considered nearly impeccable. Thanks in large part to his numerous creative inventions and products essentially changing the way people go about their everyday lives, in addition to his widespread influence on various forms of media.

Sooo, in other words; an Evil Tony Stark?

That is sort of how I see Lex.

The question will be better answered after man of steel Is released and the question If reports of Man Steel being based on Secret Origins and John Bryne's 1980's superman
were correct. That means an almost certin corporate CEO Lex.They might take some Inspiration from Smallville. But they defently won't take anything from comics pre post Crisis.

I was thinking of an evil Steve Jobs-type, but there's certainly similarities with Stark. Though inserting the scientist aspect of Lex's character may help differentiate the two a bit more for audiences. Along with exemplifying a more vast knowledge. In addition to classic instances of Lex's formidable ability to manipulate, plan, and coerce to his full, and perhaps, malicious advantage.

Plus, if just to further illustrate Lex's disdain of Superman, having Lex completely unwilling to dignify his opponent by speaking of him plainly is a must ("the alien").

That's a wonderful idea.

How about Benicio Del Toro as Lex

He's capable of handling the charm and ruthlessness that Lex has. Benicio handling the mad genius of Lex would be really intriguing to see, to even think about it.

I see him along the lines of this

Just saw Zero Dark Thirty

I think Jason Clarke would be an awesome Lex Luthor

How about James masters as Lex?

Would be great casting, but did play Brainiac on Smallville although he did voice Lex in Superman Doomsday. I think he'd be a popular choice though. I just wonder if he's too TV for the big screen.

He is.

the last movie bad guy he played was from dragonball but to be fair he was the only good thing from that crap film lol

I thought he was awful in Dragon Ball, just like everything else. I love Spike just as much as the next person but he isn't right for Lex. At all.

Yeah, as much as I loved his Lex speech as a voice actor, I wanna see a bigger cat than that in the role for this franchise.

I liked Marsters as Brainiac. Didn't think much of his Lex voice.

And when you see him in a scene with Rosenbaum, you just know who makes the best Lex if it were a comp.

So that's a nay for Benicio then? :p

I'd say interesting choice, but maybe a little too old. We all want something very different this time than previous incarnations, and a slightly younger Lex would be an easy way of achieving that.

True. But if Billy Zane was a better actor we would have him in a heartbeat, and he's a year older than Del Toro.

It's just cause he looks 65 and not 45 lol

Nope. I don't like his look. He's got a 'smarmy' vibe. Similar vibe that Guy Pearce has, and the main reason I don't like him either.

I want Lex to have the cool, cold, ruthless vibe... But not smarmy.

I liked Zane in The Phantom. That was probably the only time I didn't feel like punching him, he wasn't as bad in Dead Calm.
Guy Pearce borders on likeable when playing the good guy, and is downright loathsome when playing a villain!

Lex has a smarmy look in the comics, but I don't want to kill him lol

Depends which comics your looking at :p

I dunno, TBH Lex is a casting I'll pretty much get on board with anyone as long as they are a top notch actor. He can be played in various ways, all of which interest me, and none of which (bar campy land lover) have been seen on the big screen :)

My perfect Lex? Clive Owen, Jason Isaacs or Daniel Craig.

But honesty, even Guy Pearce I'd get on board with. I'd get it.

Look at my post above - Don't you just feel like punching that bald git? :woot:

Pearce is very much capable of playing Lex, but in such a way, you want to knee him in the balls the second you see him.

Issacs? He's 50 this year...Del Toro looks older though ;)

So many safe choices here.

Kyle Chandler!
At his core he's got a tremendously strong presence and projects will. All he needs is some good writing. We might be looking at the true modern Hackman.
