Billy Zane he's bald, he's a bastard - this is perfect (note the sarcasm)

Going off of this, Andrew Scott could make a good Luthor:

Funny you say that. Here's what I posted earlier in the thread:

What I think would be intriguing is a Moriarty-like charachter, similar to the version in BBC's Sherlock. He doesn't have to be a billionaire. He doesn't have to be charming (in a traditional sense). But he could use his mind and offscreen henchmen to screw with Superman the way Moriarty does Sherlock.

You probably have to have seen the show to realize what I'm getting at. But that sort of character would be a true match for Superman. He doesnt need an army or a suit of armor or kyptonite. This type of charachter would think those types if things are beneath him. He would believe his mind is an equal to Superman's strength.

It would require some very creative, thoughtful writers.

That's a really intriguing notion of how Lex could operate. Maybe he'll be like Moriarty in SH1 who was dimly seen but never knowingly interacted with the heroes. That would allow him to be in the movie without having cast anyone for him yet.

I like this idea.

That's pretty much how i've always pictured Lex. Someone who doesn't neccesarily get his own hands dirty. He puts all these things in motion, but the reason he never gets caught is that nothing is actually traceable back to him... he keeps a far enough distance.

That's why he's such a constant in Superman's world. It's incredibly difficult to get rid of him.

I think Lex should be a charming billionaire, that's taking two things away from him that are pretty ingrained in the character at this point.
I do like what you said about his mind being an equal to Superman's strength. However, with his mind should also come amazing technology imo, and that would be a counter to Superman's powers. I'd love to see a suit of armor when he's at his breaking point. For Kryptonite, I could even imagine Lex being amused that something so small(for example, a ring/shard) bringing the Man of Steel down to his knees in pain.

Lewis is great, but he's too likable for Lex imo.

Really?

When I first saw him in the Forsyte Saga, I thought he was the least likeable man on earth. The perfect love to hate.

Not that I like his look for Lex.

I guess it depends on the role you mostly or firstly identify him with. The role he convinced you in the first time you saw him. English is my second language. :oldrazz:

I dunno... honestly I think if you saw this show, you wouldn't find him very likeable either. Was a period drama where he was just this horrible opressive man... at one point he even forced himself on his wife who completely didn't love him but was too scared too leave him.

lewis played the bad guy in The Escapist which was Rupert Wyatt's(Rise of The apes) Debut film great film btw

I've seen him in different stuff, but mostly remember him from Band Of Brothers, where he's one of the main characters who's a very likable leader. And that show is 12 hours long, so yeah, that's how I've mainly seen him.

Obviously he can play a bastard, but I'm just saying I prefer him as a likable character because that's how I've seen him best meaning seeing him as a bastard would seem off.

i think it would be good for lex to be seen as likable to the public eye i dont want him to be just an unlikable bastard

Yeah, to the public. But we the viewers would know the difference and then the character's and actor's likability goes out the window. I just dont think I could see the actor playing Lex being mostly associated with having played likable characters. Again, not that he couldnt do it, but people would feel weird about it. Initially at least. I dunno..

if your first view of jason isaacs is awake i would think you might have same reaction

Probably. But then I dont think Isaacs is as remarkable and charismatic an actor as Lewis and I dont think I'd want him as Lex either.

Meh, all this is just a matter of opinion and preference.

If it were up to me, I would have Matthew Fox under consideration for Lex Luthor.

Typically I dislike him because he's always seems so blah, but he actually shows some surprising intensity in the Alex Cross trailer -- despite it not looking like all that stellar of a film.
