Viggo Mortensen could probably pull off an interesting Lex.

gerard butler would be a good CEO type lex, he can play a charming guy and also be a complete criminal mastermind... so for me he would be a great lex. plus he's worked with snyder before...

WHoa! I just had an epiphany!

Eric Bana!

Charming
Charismatic
Intense and

Looks cool when bald.

Gerard Butler is a good choice I think. Martin Henderson would be another option also. He's lesser known but still a great actor.

It just hit me, why not get George Clooney? He can do no wrong. Always dependable.

In the MOS casting discussions before hand, this was my perfect casting choice for Lex. I absolutley loved this guy from the get-go. I know he was first cast as Perry White in SR, but he always had more of a Luthor vibe to me.

th

Hugh Laurie

Hugh would make for an interesting choice, but I think he's a little too old for the part especially considering that Clark and Lex have traditionally been shown to be around the same age since boyhood.

So you think Lex was on the school bus?

Leo is good. Clive Owen was also a choice I liked a page or two back. When do you think the casting announcement will be made?

If the sequel comes out in 2015, I'm thinking late 2013, early 2014.

I know people want him as The Flash, but what if WB made him an offer he couldnt refuse?

I thought about him earlier but realized his head's too friggin' huge. Literally, not figuratively.

DiCaprio would definitely put some butts in seats. It doesn't get much more A-list than that. Not quite sure I like the idea of him as Lex, but he could prove me wrong.

Mortensen would probably do a good job. Not seeing the appeal of Hugh Laurie. Ralph Fiennes might offer an interesting take but I don't want to see him as another bald supervillain. Gerard Butler would probably be intense, but I'd prefer an actor that can offer a more subtle performance.

Too bad Chris Meloni is out of the running.

Leo is too obvious...a good choice, but hes played this role too often in other capacities. Its going to be a unique choice I think

I'd take Gosling over Leo any day of the week. Butler is a bad actor, looks like a meathead and wouldn't be able to cover his accent well enough for my taste.

See, I have yet to see Leo with a shaved head. You know he could pull off the menace in his stare alone.

So this thread inspired me to REALLY think about Lex Luthor for the modern age. How about Philip Seymour Hoffman? The more and more I look at him, the more and more I'd like to see him considered. Plus, he's funny, got charm but at the same time, could be creepy in his own corrupted, businessman-like vibe:

Gosling over Leo?
He's a technically proficient actor so he doesn't ruin my enjoyment of a film (Inception is one of my favorite films) but he is too studied for my taste, never seems to truly let go on screen. I see him thinking through every movement and gesture on camera. There is no spontaneity there and I like that in my actors.

I wouldn't cry if he decided to play the role but I'd still always prefer someone else. I don't see him even wanting a role like Lex anyway unless someone like Nolan was actually directing a Superman movie. He's a mega star, who isn't exactly in need of a hit.
