Johnny Depp

You know, now that I see this photo of Depp bald, I actually think he'd be great for Luthor, because, although being a handsome A-list movie star, he fits the small, weak, angular physical embodiment of the character that I envision, explained here.

There's only one stipulation with Depp for me: I think with these comic book movies it's important to have an actor that physically embodies the inner representation of the character, because comics are a visual medium and they're also basic morality tales, and it's far more visually dynamic to have characters that look like the morals that they're representing than not. Of course, with a movie, you must cast a good actor as well, but I always feel that both can be attained, looks and acting ability. You don't have to sacrifice one. Because of Luthor's evil depravity and embodiment of the opposite of everything Superman represents, an angular, conniving, almost sickly-looking actor (where do you think the bald head came from?) is necessary, so I feel that Depp would have to wear a prosthetic nose to make it arc outward and look angular, like Death's scythe. This angular look, which has been drawn in the comics many times for Luthor due to its extreme contrast to Superman, perfectly embodies Luthor's character (and is featured in the below panel). The interesting thing about Depp's look is that he has every other characteristic of the below rendering, except the scythe-like nose.

If he adopted this look, complete with a scythe for a nose and a bald head, it would be similar to Heath Ledger donning clown make up and a scarred smile for The Dark Knight, looking almost unrecognizable and allowing his performance to step into the spotlight and define the character, rather than his good looks. And, like Heath Ledger, Depp is an actor of such caliber that he could probably lend a Superman film the same buzz-earning, evil transformation that Ledger gave Batman.

Picturing an uglied-up, conniving Johnny Depp as Lex Luthor going up against a glowing portrait of heroism in Superman is a pretty cool image, I think. I'd like to see it. Plus he's A-list and he'd put butts in the seats. I don't think you can ask for more than that.

Can Depp play anyone who isnt a pothead or weirdo (=himself) anymore?

So I'm going to guess you skipped half of Depp's filmography?

I definitely do NOT want Johnny Depp as Lex. Not because I dont like him,but I think he has more of the knack for playing Brainiac or Zod.

I think making him Brainiac would be better. He gives me of that vibe, than he does with Lex.

I want Depp for Jor-el..... period.

Other than that, I don't want him in a Superman movie.

I'd want a more imposing Actor for Jor-el. Somebody like Caviezel or Crowe.

Christian Bale for Jor-El. Best FoS defense ever. What's the matter Lex? Why are you so suddenly afraid to walk in Bale's set....em... Fortress? :hehe:

Bale as Jor-El

"WHAT DONT YOU ****ING UNDERSTAND? IM TRYING EXPLAIN TO YOU STUPID MUTH******, THAT THIS ****ING PLANET WILL EXPLODE IN 90 ****ING DAYS...I DONT CARE IF SWEARING ISNT IN THE ****ING SCRIPT...YOUVE JUST BULL****** MY SCENE UP!!! IM GONNA KICK YOUR ****ING ASS!!!".:woot:

Depp is much better for Brainiac or Zod. Paul Bettany or Ralph Fiennes for Lex Luthor.

i wouldnt mind seeing depp as lex or brainiac i think he would own in the role.

he could be campigning for the role if that rumor is true he been talking to nolan. Though it could easily be a role for batman 3 too like riddler or soemthing.

While I generally detest the idea of casting Luthor solely because and actor shaves his head and looks convincing because of it, check out this photo of Paul Bettany.

He’s probably been suggested for this role before, though I don’t recall hearing it. But he’s a great actor and this picture more than proves to me that he could look awesome as Lex. What do you guys think?

I've long wanted a young, handsome, strong Lex - sort of like an evil human version of Superman - but I like your rationale for a sickly, angular Lex.

i found the depiction in that book of Luthor flip flopped around, in this panel here he fits your description, but the first time you see him he looks like an imposing guy like TAS Luthor
