The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

Worthington is a talentless pretty guy that they try far too much to push as this generation's action movie star. And he fails, imo, he is laughable. They want to use him for the Commando remake? Gimme a break. Thank God Stalone's alive and well to remind what real action movies and movie stars are really like, even if they're a bit older than the norm.

Hoooo boy. Worthington...

I don't think he's a terrible actor, but...he's got about as much charisma as a freshly-laundered vest.

It's kinda like how Mark Strong has been the 'it' guy too.

But sometimes, they don't catch on. A good example is Collin Ferrel. As much as I liked him in 'In Bruges' and 'The New World', he was in so many movies in the early 2000s, and still now, he's not in the lime light anymore. He never really caught on with the public.

That's because he's a tosser.

Farrell caught on for a while, but then he starred in some bad films and you cant only star in so many of those

Kevin McKidd

Which is a shame, as Colin Farrell has gone on to give some of the best performances of his career after he ceased to be a bankable headline movie star.

How 'bout James Spader?

He could play a really, nasty, duplicitous, and intelligent Lex

I was thinking Spader would be good myself, the other day actually . . . I doubt they'd cast him in such a huge blockbuster though seeing that he's been in that "B-movie/TV" bracket for so long now . . .

He's prolly too old for the role if we're wanting Lex to be closer to superman's age, but William Dafoe.

McKidd and Spader are very interesting choices. Visually, though, McKidd fits the part more.

As much as some people are complaining that Lex is being overused, I couldn't be happier at the possibility of seeing the true Lex Luthor represented on the big screen. I want to see "I want to watch you die, Superman", not "Would you be interested in some real estate?"

Spacey's Lex was a step in the right direction, but unfortunately, it was too bogged down by Hackman's ****ty portrayal.

I concur.

It's a shame Sam Rockwell was already Justin Hammer, as I think he could have made for a good Lex Luthor.

Too old and not looking sophisticated enough. Lex should look slightly aristocratic even if he's really just trailer-trash.

As I said in another thread, I find it pretty stupid how so many Superman candidates are dismissed because they're too old, and yet when I go to the Lex Luthor casting thread it's full of guys who by the same standards are too old to play Lex Luthor. Lex Luthor and Superman are the same age so we should be looking at Lex actors who are in the same age bracket that the Superman actor will probably be in. I think Tom Hardy was the first legitimate possibility that gained popularity here and was also in the right age bracket, but unfortunately it looks like he's going to be in Batman (probably as The Riddler), so we can forget about him playing Lex Luthor unless that falls through.

I'd like to see some more creative suggestions than just the usual assortment of old dudes, though. Hopefully this is not the Hackman version of Luthor, which would mean a younger, suaver Lex who is also a savvy business man.

Not Dominic West, but Damien Lewis would be awesome
But as I said before I'd think they would go for a bigger name then a TV actor

THIS!

Michael Fassbender would be great too. That is, if no one minds him being Magneto.

I think Lex Luthor should be 5 - 10 years older than Clark, but still has a youthful energy to him. A seasoned billionaire who has traveled the world, made advancements in science/technology who shuns graduate degrees because "some piece of paper cannot measure my intelligence", and when he walks into a room, he has a regal aura to him so much so that people mistake him for a King with the essence of a Greek God. I can picture a scene in the new movie where he is looking through a telescope from his room at the age of 8 or 10 and he sees what he mistakes as a falling star at first and then discovers it to be a spaceship. His parents thinks he is seeing things. But this is the catalyst for his curiosity in space/the stars leading him on a path of science & technology. The audience comes to find out that this spaceship is the the one carrying baby Kal-El, and Lex learns this later in the movie.

I caught a scene of Kevin McKidd on Grey's Anatomy, and as I was in great spirits after watching the most recent Smallville episode, I thought "hmmm, Lex Luthor?" It's funny that I said Greek God as he played Poseidon in Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief. I think he would make an interesting choice. Also interesting that Mr. KcKidd is from Scotland, because if I recall (& I'm possibly wrong), in one of Lex Luthor's many incarnations, his ancestors were from Scotland.
