The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

I want Mad Scientist Luthor so bad.

He's IMO a much more interesting character than business Lex.

Well, I prefer Business Man Lex, but either is leaps and bounds ahead of Real Estate Lex. Lets hope we don't get that again.

Timothy Olyphant.

The younger, business minded genius version of Lex has always been more entertaining. The mad scientist angle is too cliche'. Lex always worked better when the public loved him but you still knew that he was up to something.

You could amalgamate business and scientist lex. Lexcorp could be trying to manipulate kryptonite and mass produce it as a weapon under the direction of scientific genious and obsessively excentric business tycoon Lex Luthor.

Olyphant would be awesome...he plays the villain well

I like the idea of Olyphant in the role.

Speaking of Timothy... Justified premiere tonight! Can't wait!

Yeah, I've always liked the idea of Olyphant as Lex.

And hell yeah to the Justified premiere  :D

I was thinking of Matt Damon myself. He's a big enough name to please the "Lex should be a big star" crowd, and is also a great actor. At first glance the role seems way against type for him, but on the rare occasions he HAS played villains (The Talented Mr Ripley, The Departed, even Dogma) he's done it very well.

But all these villains are sympathetic villains. Unless Lex should be sympathetic?

Some more pics of Clive Owen, who I think i've fallen in love with for the role.

He kinda needs a big movie now. After 'Children of Men', he kinda disspeared.

Owen would be awesome.

But, Olyphant has been my favourite for Lex for a long time.

Lex luthor apear in 4 of the 5 movies and a lot on smallville, i am a little tired of this character. i hope not to see it in the first movie.

He's probably gonna be in the film.

To be honest, I don't think we had a good depiction of Lex in the film world (TV yes). As fun and enduring as the Gene Hackman was, it's very dated and perhaps one of my nickpicks of the original two. So when Spacey played the same type of Lex (though a bit darker), it was lame. We live in a modern world where we have Heath's Joker, McKellen's Magento, or even Molina's Dr. Ock.

So Lex needs a presence. He's not only the main villain of Superman, he's also one of the main characters in the same vein as Lois or Perry.

^ Exactly. Batman's got Alfred and Jim. Superman's got Lois, Lex, Perry and Jimmy.

As long as lex isn't the main villain that is fine with me.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I suppose it should be here.

I would like to see Lex portrayed as a hero, someone who all of Metropolis admires. He is a billionaire philanthropist, eligible bachelor, adventurer, futurist, man of the year, sexiest man alive, etc. Perhaps even suggest that the public would like him to run for President.

And for the first movie, he is left that way, with only the slightest hint that he's not all he's cracked up to be.

Have Clark discover the truth behind his facade but lose his proof. End the movie with Superman confronting Lex and promising to show the public the truth about him.

Make him like Ozymandias should have been in the Watchmen movie. Completely likeable.

Cooper could work in that capacity. Actually, I wouldn't mind Cooper as Lex at all.

Olyphant I do like, even if I thought he looked a little goofy in Hitman with a shaved dome.

I think I would have to blame the director for Hitman.

I love the idea, reminds me of Darth Sidious too, needing the public face to hide his true motives.

I always preferred Mad Scientist Lex above all because IMO it gave him the best chance to demonstrate that his greatest weapon against Superman was his genius mind, unlike business Lex who I always saw as just having unlimited resources to buy and/or hush the right right people.

If you could retool business Lex to become something similar to an evil Tony Stark then we'd have the best of both worlds (If I remember, wasn't John Shea's Lex like that in some ways?)

If I had my pick, I'd have Lex work mostly behind the scenes manipulating everything in the first film, with only a few hints that IS in fact Lex Luthor at all. Wait till the sequel to introduce Superman to the face of his ultimate opponent

I just hope we get an awesome portrayal of Lex...and a badass villain to go along with him

In addition to my Jaquin Phoenix suggestion, who is my top choice, I also suggest Michael C. Hall, Michael Emerson, and the always reliable Jason Isaacs.

Timothy Olyphant is a very interesting suggestion. Though I can see Olyphant as Metallo.
