The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

Phoenix or Isaacs would work, out of the names I've skimmed so far.

Phoenix has that right amount of arrogance and petulance that a really bright, young and hungry sociopath Lex would possess. I like him as a businessman who's made his fortune on his brilliant ideas, but isn't yet that sophisticated when it comes to dealing with Superman or the public. He PR rep is an individual who probably has ulcers trying to smooth over a lot of his statements. He doesn't hide his disdain for Superman (a being who's had to work at nothing) very well at all.

Isaacs looks much more suave and calculating. He wouldn't be so much the mad scientist as the articulate and genius-minded corporate raider with the perfectly polished public image on one hand and the other firmly up the criminal underworld's a**. Either choice would be great.

I can't think of anyone that noone hasnt mentioned, but what about Mathew Mcconaughey?...

I had never thought of Phoenix (I dunno if his skin-tone is really right) but he's a great actor and can play a great villain (Gladiator). I could actually see that working.

Someone, anyone, please make a manip poster of Cavill and Phoenix. PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEE!!!!!

Alright, folks. Searching for that Heath Ledger-esque casting choice for Lex Luthor. How's this....

James Franco!!!

Franco might look weird with a shaved head at first. Oh well. He was Harry Osborn. Different comic companies make that null and void. If you feel differently, I say PSSSHHH POSH. All the man needs is that one role he knocks out of the park and I feel like he is on the verge of doing so. I can also look past Franco and Cavill having appeared together already in the horribly written/directed Tristan and Isolde. If anything it would bring familiarity that in turn helps chemistry.

Franco would obviously need to be a younger, das wunderkind Lex Luthor. I can dig it.

he's got a pretty good look...but i just don't find Franco very intimidating. he's tried a few times but it's just not there. menacing? yes......intimidating? not really....

Agreed in full.

But that could actually be used as an advantage for Franco. I feel safe in saying the majority of us want corporate/politician Lex Luthor that is beloved in the public eye. At first anyway. The lack of a naturally intimidating vibe could support that. The general public doesn't like intimidating. Knowing what we know would make Franco's Lex that much more of a bastard, provided Franco could make you hate him in scenes that show his true nature, with and without Superman being present. And I think he could make the audience would want to see Superman swing at, a character the audience wants to swing at because they know and/or feel like they could smack around, but neither they or Superman can do such a thing.

Not intimidating? He has a see-through piano!

he's guest staring on californication and the dude has got this psychotic brad pitt thing going in his character that it took a while for me to recognize him.

Byrne's Lex is just a Kingpin rip-off.They should use Birthright Luthor, who was a blend of the mad scientist/businessman characterisations

Rob Lowe was one of the best villains ever in Tommy Boy. And his Wayne's World character was somewhat Lex-like. But I'm not sure he'd be the right fit for this film.

Whats with all the phoenix talk?? I dunno guys and gals i just cant see it. In gladiator he was a good baddie but completely different to Lex. Hes more of the wimpy kind that hides behind 10 body guards get rid of the body guards and approach him he would pee himself. Totally not lex

Yes, but that Lex became far superior to Kingpin. Mad Scientist Lex brings a certain amount of cheese that I'm not comfortable with the main villian having.

Now, I would go with politician Lex Luthor that finances mad scientists through LexCorp.

I love Californication so very much:yay::yay::yay:

How??Refusing the "Kent=Superman" notion even when it is evident? That version is too dumb...it's almost impossible to believe that that fat idiot managed to create Lexcorp.

I don't see why anyone would want to discredit John Bryne's Lex Luthor when his interpretation of the character left a huge mark on the Superman mythos. Even the mainstream thinks of Lex as the rich tycoon than whatever he was before. So I think it's easy to say that the best thing that Byne had to offer for take on the comics, differences aside; it changed Lex forever.

Now, I do like the tycoon/scientist/megalomaniac Lex that has been portrayed in recent comics. That makes for a good mix of different eras and just works for the character.

Then doesn't that apply for Lois as well?
