Michael Shannon is just so.... uncomfortable to look at. Which I guess could work, if he plays a villain.

Okay that's one scary mofo.

Nice manips, but I can't see Shannon as Lex. He'd be better as Brainiac.

If Lex is going to be vain, narcissistic and think of himself as the pinnacle of human perfection, he should look like it IMO.

Narcissism is a state of mind, not a reflection of reality. And it's beside the point, as most incarnations have reinforced his cerebral nature more than the physical. It would be nice if we could for once get a handsome and I daresay sexy-looking Luthor to further exemplify his overblown sense of pride in himself -- but that's just an extra topping. The main course should focus on pure acting skill, and the likes of Shannon fits that criteria.

Agreed on the bolded part, which is why I hope Lex is the role Ramirez is rumored for. However, I have yet to meet an average/normal looking narcissist.

Most narcissists I've come across in my life look good, know they look good and put in a lot of effort to look even better. With them, it's not merely a state of mind from my experience. Delusions of grandeur is another thing altogether and not something I would associate with Lex.

If we're going for the mad scientist Luthor, Shannon would be awesome. If we're going for the Luthor like the one from Birthright, Shannon would be a miscast IMO.

For all we know, Shannon could be in the running for Perry with all the disinfo and secrecy surrounding this movie.

WOW nice manips of Shannon. I wouldn't complain if he landed Luthor. Now one thing I do hope Snyder goes for is making sure they pronounce his name exactly as it's spelled. Loo-THOR not Loo-ther!!!

Shannon definitely has that bad-guy vibe going on. He could work for both Lex and Brainiac, although I'm hoping for someone better-looking for both parts.
If Shannon's on for Lex, I can definitely see Snyder possibly portraying a more aggresive and physical Lex who can actually kick ass, especially in a power-suit of some sort. Shannon's pretty big (6'3") and could come of as very imposing.

^ Isn't Superman bigger than Luthor? If Shannon, who's 6'3", gets the role, he'll look too big compared to Cavill's Superman, who is 6'1".

Well Tom Hardy is playing Bane, and we all know Bane is huge compared to Batman.

We also know that Hardy is shorter than Bale.

So I imagine that they will somehow be able to make Hardy taller than Bale. And they will most likely, if Shannon is cast as Lex, make Cavill look taller.

Hollywood can make two inches disappear, no problem. Just put lifts in Cavill's shoes, and make Shannon wear flat shoes or even socks if his feet aren't in the shot, and all of a sudden Cavill is taller than Shannon.

Where is the Michael Shannon rumor? His involvement would certainly get me excited.

shannon surely confirms they are going for mad scientist luthor which is cool

if he is infact being sought for lex

Shannon is too overtly creepy for the Lex that I want to see. I finally want to see the "perfect" Lex - the handsome, charming, billionaire Adonis who's reached the pinnacle of human potential and who resents Kal-El for exceeding that.

The problem now with Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline is that there's a huge competition between the three for scoops, so they'll post anything. Some have weight, coming from the horse's mouth, but half of the time, it's hearsay with no contract work being set up.

A good example is the Viggo scoop from Deadline. I'm sure it was legit, but I don't think it was ever feasible. It's more like WB went to him and he said no due to his commitments to 'Snow White'. Because the internet tends to sensationalize everything, to us it seemed like a big lose while to WB, it's not a big deal.

Michael Shannon might be in the running, but he could be just an actor that Zack wants and he hasn't been approached yet. It's hard to tell. I hope he signs up. As far as I know, he's free (unless Boardwalk Empire starts up again).

It's funny, I recently watched an interview with Michael Shannon where he was talking about his role on Boardwalk Empire, and he said he was the Lex Luthor to Nucky Thompson's Superman. He even pronounced Luth-or correctly.
