The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

I don't know, Shannon looks pretty charming to me in this photo:

I think he could pull off a good Lex Luthor.

Still looks like a serial killer.

Lex shouldn't look overtly evil, especially if they happen to go with the idea that Lex and Clark were once friends. Lex should seem redeemable, even if he never does reform.

he looks like a serial killer

He may look evil, but he doesn't look like a serial killer, because they don't have a look. If they did, rhe cops would keep an eye on everyone with this look.

Yeah, and I think we should remember, that "looking" like a serial killer doesn't mean in any way that you are one. For example, Shannon "looks" like a serial killer and is a respected and talented actor.

Ted Bundy "looked" like a movie star and happened to be a serial killer.

Thanks. And depending on the role, Shannon doesn't ALWAYS look like a psycho. In Revolutionary Road and Bug? He did, but that's also because he was PLAYING a psycho. He didn't look crazy in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, though. Just imposing. He didn't look crazy in The Runaways; just flamboyant and a bit weird. He didn't look crazy in 8 Mile; just came off like trailer trash. I haven't seen Boardwalk Empire, so I don't know what he's like on that. But he's a very versatile actor.

He doesn't look like a psycho in Boardwalk Empire. He looks like an authoritative person.

I've always liked Lex's expression of being straight faced one second, then have a manic look in his eyes the next. Shannon has a face like that.

That's why I think Shannon would be a good choice to play Lex.

I don't want to see a too serious Lex,cause he isn't like that and it's not believable. Lex is eccentric, but he manages to keep a cool exterior.

Like that scene in Birthright, where he's serious and lecturing Superman about Krypton, then burts out in hysterical laughter at him.

I want him to be more serious than Spacey and Hackman's portrayals, but have that borderline crazy edge.

Are you talking about this?

I love the way Lex was portrayed in Birthright. I would love to see something like this in the movie.

Definitely. That scene in Birthright,Shannon could pull that off exceptionally well. He has a nice blend of seriousness and eccentricity, that is A+ Luthor material.

Hey, lets keep emphasizing how bad Sucker Punch did all over the net,
and maybe it will force them to announce who is getting cast as Luthor ASAP!

Good idea.

I say we start a national campaign to force Snyder to shorten the title of Sucker Punch to "Suck."

Y'know I was thinking about how the revelation of Adams as Lois may shed light on who be Lex;
I can't believe for a second that after casting Academy Award winning or nominated starts in lead roles (Costner,Lane, and Adams), suddenly we are going to get a less known star to be Lex.
If we just follow the trail of stars that Snyder has laid out through his previous casting in this move, not including Superman himself because Superman is always the unknown dude, it just points to an academy award winner or nominated actor being cast as Lex Luthor.
So no Billy Zane (thank god!).
Here are the list for Academy Award nominated actors -
Best Actor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Actor
Supporting Actor
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Supporting_Actor

And yes, Michael Shannon and Vigo are on those lists....so is Sean Penn!

I'd bet a million that our future Lex, Perry, and Zod (I hope no Zod!) are to be found named in one of those two lists above...

I'd so much rather see Mortensen as Lex than as Zod. Just because i think Lex will have a present in every movie in this new series (if there is more than one) i feel like we'd be wasting Viggo.

If he is cast as Zod I will not be dissapointed at all though

If they're trying to amass such talent, Snyder really must have went after Daniel Day-Lewis.

After Adams getting Lois, I don't have a clue who could get Luthor now.

I know the casting of this film has just completely blown me away and surprised me at every turn.

I think surely Lex casting has to be next.

Daniel Day-Lewis would be idea after the recent casting. They never said Lewis said no or was offered anything, right?

Michael Shannon would be awesome too!

I'd probably run out and celebrate in the street if a week from now I got online and saw the headline "Daniel Day-Lewis is Lex Luthor!"

Who knows though, with Snyder and friends going after skilled actors, so many could get it.

I think DDL is just out of reach, but anyone else is fair game. Clearly attracting seasoned and respected actors isn't out of this production's capabilities. So I expect to be extremely pleased with whomever they cast.

Unfortunately you're probably right, the main reason being... isn't he doing Abe Lincoln right around the same time?
