The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

Ralph Fiennes would be awesome. Even though he's been an easy pick for villains lately, Lex is a totally different character from the villains he's known for (Voldemort, Hades), so I think it would still be fun to see him play it.

Fiennes could be Lex, Brainiac, Zod, whoever they wanted. He's brilliant.

Fiennes would be great, but I don't think they'll put another british as a main character. Brainiac, perhaps, but a Metropolis citzen, no.

However, it would be great to see Cavill, Emily Blunt as Lois and Fiennes as Lex. And London as Metropolis! hahahahahahaha!

I still support Joaquin Phoenix, as I remember, I was the first one to sugest his name, the day I entered in this forum. He would be scary as Lex, It could be a great comeback.

Well I would hope nationality isn't a concern for them when casting, especially not to the level where they would disqualify someone suitable for the part because of it. Superman himself might be someone who needs to be played by someone born on a certain hunk of land, at least from the POV of the more extreme posters, but I don't see how that applies to any other of superman's characters.

Should nolan not have cast ledger as joker because we already had a british batman?

I don't care on nationality, I just wanna see the right actor in each role, it's just something I thought about because of some people complained on Superman being played by a British, even though the character is an alien.

Batman isn't such an "American icon" like Superman, I think. But I don't know, I'm not American.

I think the really cool thing we can expect is that the actor for Lex will be as far away from camp as possible. Essentially we will get an actor of high regard, which will add legitimacy to the character and even help Cavill elevate his acting in scenes with him. With Bale in Batman, he had great respected actors to work with and if Cavill gets the same his performance will ultimately benefit.

I still like the idea of Joaquin Phoenix. Daniel Craig may be better suited for Metallo but would also be workable for Lex.

Would WB cast phoenix in such an important part when his life is apparently so out of order? If he overdoses or otherwise gets in trouble it's a huge loss for them.

I hope so, this lex should be able to stand next to ledger's joker.

People, just don't forget that I was the first one to bring Phoenix name, ok? lol

Nah, I've seen it on websites outside of this one for years. Yep there are other websites folks ;)

I suggest him in one of my firsts posts, in July 2009, and I hadn't seen in any other website. I'm happy that many other people think the same though! :woot:

If not Daniel Day Lewis, then I'm throwing in for Leonardo DiCaprio. I like trying to cast people who would never take the role.

Since Cavill is cast, then I'm all for Ralph Fiennes. He's not my number one pick, though.

several people have suggeste Leo...and while i think he'd definitely make an interesting Lex, i simply don't think he'd look good with a bald head.

Glad to hear there's a lot of support here for Rhys Meyers. I really don't think the fact that he was in "The Tudors" with Cavill would really make much of a difference to the producers if he turns out to be the best actor for the job.

Nolan tapped his "Inception" cast members Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (and apparently Marion Cotillard too) for "The Dark Knight Rises." And in the first sequel, Heath Ledger's Joker blew up Maggie Gyllenhaal, the sister of his cowboy lover in "Brokeback Mountain." Speaking of which, Liam Neeson (Ra's Al Ghul) and Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow) starred together in "Breakfast on Pluto" after doing "Batman Begins."

And Kevin Spacey (Lex Luthor) and Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane) starred together in three movies in a row, "Beyond the Sea," "Superman Returns" and "21," all back to back. They probably enjoy working together and in fact I remember reading that it was Spacey who recommended Bosworth for the role of Lois Lane.

I think the fact that Rhys Meyers is Irish can only help him seeing as how Nolan seems to prefer classically trained thespians ...

I would do the Snoopy happy dance if JRM got cast for this. And Henry and Jonathan have great chemistry together! Seems too much to hope for.

I want Joaquin, he's awesome and needs a huge comeback.
