Might be lame to you not to me, I'm not saying he should not be charming but he should still be unlikable to the audience. End of the day I dont want to like the guy who wants to kill my favourite character ever.

I never said I wanted that from my villain either I think you're missing the point

lots of people like the joker in TDK, most of them like him more than batman.

Heres an actor I wouldn't mind seeing. Like so many of us.

I think he should be loved by the public, but his employees, who know the real Lex, fear him.
He needs the popularity of a movie star with the public, the power of bill gates, and a darkside like stalin. If you work for him and you make a mistake, you disappear.

That's so lame. No one gets in the kind of position of power lex gets in by being instantly unlikable.

Look at how nolan cast his batman movies. Every single one of the villains normally portrays protagonist archetypes. Ra's, Scarecrow, Joker, Two-Face, even Tom Hardy is an incredibly charismatic guy. None of them are moustache twisting clowns that lack subtlety. It's a formula for success.

Not true. Guys like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates are real life Lex Luthors and there are plenty of people out there who will tell you how unlikeable they are.

Bottomline... you can be an utter f**king prick in the business world and still do well. Granted, being charming makes it easier, but it's not a necessity if you're the guy with the ideas. That's what really matters.

That being said, I'm in favor of a more charming Lex (and I do think Olyphant can be very likeable) but I don't mind a paranoid, arrogant a**hole Lex either. I just want him to be powerful and not some two-bit crook like we've seen before.

I totally agree with that but when hes on screen as Lex we as viewers should dislike him, all I was saying was there is something I dislike about Timothy Olyphant and I think that helps when watching him if he were to play Lex funnily enough its only when hes bald I dislike him lol

The Lex I want is the cunning corporate Lex, a man that were it not for Superman, he'd probably be a real asset to Metropolis. He doesn't think he's a villain, he thinks he's saving US from Superman. The best villains are the ones that aren't villains at all, apart from the Joker. My favorite Lex is still in Luthor: MOS. Daniel Day Lewis would own that role; as small a chance it is that we'd ever get him... it's awesome to think about.

Yeah that would be superb

Ive always thought of Lex as Hitler. Power hungry, wanting to shape and dominate the earth and ruling everyone in it. An anti-Superman.

For some reason, I'm really leaning towards Oscar Isaac for a younger Lex. If they based him on the Greek Lex from the animated series, he could really look perfect (even though he's not Greek). He was the best thing about that Robin Hood movie that came out last year. Actually, one of the few really good things.

Good choice. He was good in Robin Hood as you said. The movie never felt like Robin Hood to me though, just another Crowe/Scott epic.

Yeah, I think they just tried to cram too many things into it, and way too many characters. It was sort of like an episode of The Tudors, only they replaced the sex scenes with swordfights.

Also, I hated the kids in the masks. WTF was with that? I felt like I was watched The Hills Have Eyes in Sherwood Forest or something.

I suggested him a while back in the main casting thread. If they go for more of an unknown, I think he'd be a great choice.

I'm still with BH. Olyphant has shown more than enough range to be a charming, suave likable guy one minute and a ruthless, cunning pr*** the next. He can exude confidence, intelligence and intimidation all at the same time.

While his name has floated around Lex for years, something even more in his favor is that this isn't 2005 and he is now 42. I have always thought the genius, corporate Lex was a little older than Clark/Supes/Lois.

It's like someone said, he has a "natural" un-likability if he needs it. That was something I always thought was missing about Spacey. Now, the story certainly wasn't his fault nor was it his fault he was being forced to play Donner's Lex, but at the end of the day Kevin Spacey is immensely established and a fantastic, LOVED actor. Thus, no matter how much of a "bad guy" he was, it was tough to root against Kevin Spacey. Not his fault, just how I saw it.

Well, he is the lead villain in Sucker Punch, so you never know. :yay:

Snyder snared two possible Lex candidates in that film with Isaac and Jon Hamm. I wouldn't mind at all if he calls upon one of them again for Lex.

I can't wait for Sucker Punch, that movie looks ten shades of awesome.

we heard that snyder was pursuing costner and day-lewis at the same time, so I believe they really are trying to get day-lewis on board, but it's in vain unfortunately

wish he wasn't so picky

You never know they might convince him, wishful thinkng :p

Not a big name, but I think Bill Fichtner would/could be a great Lex.

Though he already had a small role on TDK - but what does that matter anyway? :p
