The Official Lois Lane Casting & Discussion Thread - Part 3

I thought we had just agreed Rachel was only considered by Nolan for TDK? By then she had already starred in 3 back-to-back-to-back hits. Her name has fizzled since then, but at the time she was most certainly one of the top young actresses in Hollywood.

I think she could use this film. Aside from Sherlock she hasn't had a noteworthy role in a while. Playing one of the most iconic female roles would help sustain her career for a good while, netting her the success and credibility to work on other films.

i normally like rachel but she was horrible in sherlock holmes.

I do think she's make a pretty good lois, but honestly she looks better as a blond and i'm not she how she'd look across Cavill. for me between Olivia and Rachel i pick Olivia.

I'm also not sure rachel has all that much pull either, although both men and women seem to love her she can't really carry a movie if that is what some people expect since she is more famous than cavill. Didn't morning glory bomb?

So i say pick the best actress for the role, no matter the reputation.

also i'm not to concerned for her career since she is such a solid actress and attractive and likeable, so i don't think she needs this role or that the movie needs her.

Within the month.

Is that Olivia Wilde? If it is you're SO casting her now!!

She looks almost exactly like Lois from the animated series.

There isn't even a competiton in my opinion, she is THERE, babe!

 now you make me curious too...

Me too. If he's ****in' with us I'm gonna hunt him down, cut his balls off and feed 'em to him. :cmad:

How would he know anything? Curious.

i'm not gonna give any specifics, but the best i can surmise is that he's making educated guesses and speculation. i'm inclined to agree....if Wilde doesn't get the role, i'd be surprised and actually pretty disappointed.

If they are educated guesses then surely it would be harmless to point them out here?

nah, there's a reason i'm not posting what he messaged me about.

It's becoming impossible to support any other actress than Olivia here. Boring.

nothing boring about it bring someone else up if you want

i like McAdams and Blunt as well but i dont think either would do it

How is it boring? If she gets cast then you'd have to accept her. :oldrazz:

These people don't give a chance to other people support another actress, they found reasons to not believe that any other actress has a chance to be cast, and when somebody give one plausible reason to Wilde maybe not be cast, they can't accept.

I don't know where do you people find that Wilde is already Lois Lane. She's too busy, she's already in big movies, she doesn't proved yet that she is so good actress.

IF she's cast, I'll have to accept, but she's not and I don't think she's that perfect choice.

she's starring in 4 movies this year that she's already wrapped up filming on, all the while working on House M.D. she only has 2 movies lined up for next year, 1 of which she's already filming. the other one isn't nearly as big or high profile as Superman. she has 4 months before they start filming Superman. considering many actors, actresses, and even composers juggle multiple projects all the time...i think Wilde would be able to find time to fit, what is possibly, the biggest Superman film ever into her schedule.

she's already in big movies
how is this a bad thing? if anything, WB and Snyder might be relying on her star power to gain more hype for the film. they already have Cavill, who is pretty much an unknown, for the title role...i can guarantee they're looking for people who are more familiar to the general audience for the other 2 lead roles (Lois and Lex).

she doesn't proved yet that she is so good actress.
she's a decent enough actress and has shown potential. besides, i don't see how you can throw this argument out there while you have MEW plastered in your signature.

Good post.

I suppose this thread is not just about who people support but speculation on who might get cast or who should get cast. When it comes to age, look, acting, and star power, people have different opinions. No one is saying you can't support MEW. But to say that Olivia is wrong for the role and then feel defensive when people say MEW is wrong is just silly.

Yeah, just because a lot of us like Olivia for the role doesn't mean we're close-minded towards all other actresses. Regardless of whether or not these ladies are interested or can fit it into their schedule, other actresses that I'd be happy with include:

Emily Blunt
Rachel McAdams
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Rose Byrne
Mila Kunis
Rebecca Hall
Jessica Biel
Alison Brie

There are plenty of other actresses out there that could also do a great job... it's not as tough a role to cast as some people think.

I could deal with most of those actresses as lois, of course I greatly prefer some over others. Two of them I wouldn't want to see though, is mila kunis and rebecca hall. Mila, I feel, just doesn't really suit the part, and rebecca IMO is just flat out unattractive. It would be exacerbated with a love story arc between her and cavill, who is one of the sexiest actors working.

gonna still put abigail spencer out here... mostly because i don't like the idea of all these actresses that are younger than 28 or older than 32 who have more star power than acting skills, that i still see a hot actress rather than a character.

Ah, thank you... I was trying to think of the hot teacher from Mad Men when I was brainstorming some of my favorite choices but I couldn't remember her name. She'd make a great Lois too.

Um according to Wiki, Abigail is best known for being a love interest in Mad Men and a Twix commercial. She has about the same credentials as most of the other candidates, less in some cases. And many actors can be made to look older or younger. It's not like you see a 28 year old actress on film and think hey they look 28. Cavill is 27. An actress younger than 28 is fine. There are many candidates but maybe only about 5-10 strong ones that would benefit this film.

it's not about the credentials or the looking the age. i'd say her credentials aren't anywhere as impressive as anyone else suggested. but i think there is something that has to be said about having actresses like kristin stewart or ashley greene trying to act 30. actors usually put some of themselves into their characters, so sometimes it's just about life experience. i remember one of the complaints people had about returns was that kate bosworth's lois lacked the maturity that the character needed. and kate bosworth at 25(?) that time was considered one of the most talented young actors at the time after doing stuff like wonderland. heck that was my complaint about katie holmes in batman begins. i just think when you have a character like superman that is this symbol of idealism you need supporting characters to contrast that and who don't have a look of wide eyed innocence on them.

but then when you look for someone older, it's hard to find an actress that isn't instantly recognizable or attached to other comic franchises. and what i liked about watchmen was that other than carla guigino the cast was made up of people who you've seen before but you don't make that connection until you're browsing imdb. the last thing i want to experience when watching lois is the experience of watching jack play the joker. it's a good performance, but i'm completely cognizant that i'm watching jack.

You can say what you want, I still don't buy Olivia Wilde and I don't believe she'll be cast, for me she simply doesn't match to Cavill. But if she want to star in another franchise and she realy has great chemistry with him, ok.

But for me, when I see the pictures, the best match is between Cavill and Winstead.

The only question we should really be worrying about, is whether or not we think Zack Snyder would see her as Lois Lane to Henry Cavill's Superman.

Personally I just don't see it. I don't see that they would have Kent and Lane chemistry. I don't see that he would have someone like her in mind for the role.

I could see Lane and Kent banter working between McAdams and Cavill, but not Wilde.

Oh I just so want the announcement to be made, so that people can stop talking about her.

I really don't think she's the one... if she is, i'll have to swallow the big lump in my throat and do my best to try and clear my mind.

But for now, I just have to trust that Synder sees what I see... a woman who is clearly NOT Lois Lane.

Maybe that would help though. It would really help the idea of a genetically superior being if no one even came close to how attractive Superman is. Perhaps if they go with Ursa that is where the sex appeal could come from, that or a legal Kara. It would show how ordinary everyone else around him is. It might be nice too if they show Superman not falling for the stunning woman in the office but a typically human woman.

I don't want to deprive men of their visual pleasure but it would set the movie apart from other super-hero blockbusters where beautiful hero falls for the beautiful damsel.

I would be okay with Winstead (but she still looks very young). And she just got a leading role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer, so there probably could be schedule problems.

McAdams would fit the part, but she played that kind of character before and I would like to see a more inspiring choice.

My wish list (schedule/ rumors aside) right now would be:
Olivia Wilde
Mila Kunis
Gemma Arterton
Emily Blunt

Batman and Spider-Man have already done this.
