ya, if only Cavill was an alien, it would have been perfect, oh wait, he is British, is that close enough?
well...if Cavill were alien, he'd be even more perfect than he alread is!
Wilde having a family rooted in journalism can only strengthen her approach for portraying a reporter, but leave it to 'Director' to spin this to make it sound like a detraction. i guarantee that if your fantasy girlfriend had a similar background you'd be using it to fuel your absurd campaign as well...
Surely now they're at least testing potential Lois candidates with Henry Cavill?!
obviously Lois is a rebellious reporter (Perry White lists her pro's and con's in Birthright) and she doesn't fit the typical mold of a journalist, but i don't see how at least being familiar with the character's profession could possibly be spun as a disadvantage. if anything, it can give her small nuances that can help sell her as portrayal a real reporter rather than just blindly following the screenplay. While I don't agree with directors comments, as a Journalism graduate who is working for a newspaper now, I can say that it doesn't neccesarily provide any advantage in playing Lois Lane.
The type of journalism that she does is a complete fantasy. The amount of laws she breaks, the absolute lack of professionalism and caution. It's what all journalists wish they were able to do, but aren't able too because they are tied down.
Olivia Wilde has no experience of Lois's world.
Or ANY actress who's cast can just go HANG OUT WITH A JOURNALIST!obviously Lois is a rebellious reporter (Perry White lists her pro's and con's in Birthright) and she doesn't fit the typical mold of a journalist, but i don't see how at least being familiar with the character's profession could possibly be spun as a disadvantage. if anything, it can give her small nuances that can help sell her as portrayal a real reporter rather than just blindly following the screenplay.
Scarlett Johannson wore it better years ago.
Nah...Getting a trashy vibe from her![]()
No, man, it's completely illogical to like her more for that reason because ANY actress can go do research and have the same knowledge and experience at her fingertips! It's not like playing an abuse victim or whatever where actually going through it yourself will give you emotional ammunition that you wouldn't otherwise have. Olivia Wilde isn't even a former reporter! She knows other people who are reporters and my point is that any actress can go do that!right...but Wilde already has family that are in journalism, so no need to hang out with a journalist. all i'm saying is that the fact that her family has a journalistic background makes me like her more. i'm not saying that having journalistic knowledge is REQUIRED to play the role and that whoever plays Lois MUST go full method acting (ala DeNiro in Taxi Driver) and become a reporter on her off hours....i'm just saying that it's a good start. so GA1U5, no need to try to make my opinion seem extreme...it's fairly logical.

Still no such thing as 'Too Hot' though.

so lemme get this straight...if you were conducting an interview for, medical research, it would be completely illogical to speak to someone whose family has a background in the medical field and grew up around that atmosphere versus someone who can go do the research but possibly hasn't done so yet?No, man, it's completely illogical to like her more for that reason because ANY actress can go do research and have the same knowledge and experience at her fingertips!
again, i never stated that the actress who plays Lois has to go 'full ******' and completely envelope herself in the world of journalism. i'm simply saying that, if you are to cast an actress for the role of a reporter, knowing that an actress has a family whose background is in journalism is certainly a plus. it's not the end all be all of decision making, but it's certainly a benefit for said actress. Olivia grew up surrounded by a family of journalists, which is quite different from simply following a journalist around for a weekend and asking them a bunch of questions. It's not like playing an abuse victim or whatever where actually going through it yourself will give you emotional ammunition that you wouldn't otherwise have. well...our personalities ARE shaped by our upbringingsI understand it's good for her to have a natural flare for journalism, to be naturally inquisitve and hungry for the truth, but that's more a personality thing than anything to do with her background or experience in the proffession.
Olivia Wilde is too distractingly beautiful to be Lois. We need someone with more down-to-earth good looks, someone who wouldn't look out of place working in a print journalism environment.
I still want Olivia Wilde I just see her and think Lois.
Surely now they're at least testing potential Lois candidates with Henry Cavill?!
Do you read the comics? Lois Lane is gorgeous in the comics. Also why does she have to not be that gorgeous to be a journalist?
I read an article a few weeks after Cavill was cast, when it was rumored Rachel M and Olivia were main candidates for Lois, and it said that "in two weeks top candidates for Lois Lane will be meeting with Cavill to do readings". I'm betting whoever has the best chemistry with Cavill will be Lois. That was quite some time ago, so we really have to be close to an announcement.
If you've ever worked in a traditional newspaper newsroom, you'd know. A journalist who looks like Olivia Wilde would not be working at a newspaper, she'd be on TV (less work, more money).
Yeah, it's a movie, so all women are supposed to be hot, but there's a limit to what's credible. Erica Durance, for example, is supposedly attractive, but not on Olivia's level, and you could more reasonably picture someone like Erica working at the Planet.
Where did you read that?
We really do have to be close surely

gosh, i am so annoyed with hearing. "she is too hot for lois... she is too sexy... she is too stunning"
that is the probably stupidest argument ive ever heard and its is ridiculous that so many people are using it. come up with a legitimate reason. jeezus
I can't remember... I think it was at CBM. From what everyone says about that site, it's not that reliable but I don't see why they'd lie about actresses doing scene readings. But yeah, since we already have Ma Kent, we gotta be close to the other main characters.
