The Official Lois Lane Casting & Discussion Thread - Part 6

I find McAdams generic and almost indestinguishable from Bosworthless. McAdams already turned down the role of Pepper Potts so I hope she doesn't want to do superhero movies if offered.

I couldnt agree more with you Duderino.
I agree as well! Glad you liked the movie, Earle (I posted a response to your post last night, but for some reason my whole post got deleted or something).

Pepper Potts in no way compares to Lois Lane. Although I would've much rather had Rachel over dead behind the eyes Paltrow, I can't blame her for turning it down. Iron Man wasn't well known to the public until the movie, but whether you're a Superman fan or not you know Lois Lane. If she was given a chance, I expect she'd consider much more carefully this time.

I think Rachel McAdams would be terrific. And she's hot as hell -- don't know where that hate is coming from.

Why would a big name overshadow Cavill? Was Bale overshadowed by Neeson, Freeman and Caine? I think a big name would help him and the movie a lot.

Yeah, but none of them were the female leads. It would make sense to make the supporting cast recognizable if the leads were unknowns.

However, I can't think of an unknown that I would like for Lois. Except Jessica Stroup i guess. I suppose it depends what you mean by unknown. Because to me actresses like Anna Kendrick and Gemma Arterton aren't considered unknown because they are recognized.

If they are looking for more of an unknown i would definitely bring Stroup back into the discussion for sure, because similar to Cavill she's really only done tv, sure she's been in a couple of movies but nothing that anyone would be very familiar with, again a little similar to Cavill except Cavill has done more films and has far more talent acting wise. But yeah if they are looking for a relative unknown i think Jessica Stroup would easily be in the top of the list since she is a tv actress really but also has that "it" girl factor similar to Blake Lively getting cast in Green Lantern. I know a lot of people, including me, question Stroups acting but hey she has a perfect look and if she has great chemistry with Cavill and owns the role, why not cast her? I'd compare Stroup with Erica Durance in terms of Durance really not even being known, and was a fairly sub-par actress before she landed the Lois Lane role on Smallville and she's actually become a great Lois Lane and many people are a fan of her know because of that. So i wouldnt count Stroup out just yet

Well, she may not be your cup of tea, but I don't think "generic" is a defensible description of McAdams. She has a very distinct look to her.

i just find her cute not really hot

Yeah I agree with this, McAdams is not what I think of as hot. Of course, I like women with tanned skin and dark hair, so it just depends on the person really.

Lois Lane is suppose to be cute and beautiful, not hot and sexy.
Not according to some drawings I've seen.

Characterization>>>>one artist's depiction out of hundreds who have contributed to the mythos

Also Teri Hatcher and Erica Durance have pretty much raised the bar for looks in live action. Why hire McAdams who is less attractive than previous Lois actresses?

Cute and beautiful is exactly how it should be. Teri Hatcher - probably the hottest live-action Lois - would have been terrible but she saved herself due to the fact she is a good actress and played a FANTASTIC Lois. No offense to Olivia, but Teri Hatcher she is not.

The only hot actress to be considered should be Sarah Shahi :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. Kidding aside, McAdams is a better choice. Bosworth for all her faults in the role (not all of which was her fault) was never "hot". Unattractive, absolutely not, but never hot.

Modern Lois Lane is supposed to be hot and sexy.

Lana Lang is the cute girl next door.

Huge difference.

Although it came from Variety, it looks nonsense, and WB doens't confirm these news.

WB rarely confirms anything till official announcements are made.

So far Variety/Deadline have been spot on in their reports.

Where this thread is starting to go again is hilarious.

I like Ellen Page but she looks too young (like you said) and I think she'd look weird with Cavill.

Once again, the conversation deteriorates into 'who do each of you find hotter.' :wall:

We don't know the story yet, but Astrodust is right, this seems to be the age that Snyder is looking at for his Lois: early 20's. I couldn't think of anyone who is perfect for it, who has that perfect combination of qualities and gives off that exact Lois Lane vibe and who's also that young. Then, all of a sudden, it hit me: Ellen Page. This is impeccable casting for an early 20's Lois Lane.

I know that you guys all want some sexed-up bombshell for Lois, but in this search for someone who can really play the role to perfection (like RoughNTumble pointed out, we've become obsessed with mere photos and seem to forget about the actor's on-screen charisma), who has every quality necessary to create a memorable, charismatic Lois Lane that jumps off the screen, there is no one better in this age range who embodies this character than Ellen Page.

ep6r.jpg

She's beautiful, but has a down-to-earth tomboy quality that's perfect for Lois, plus she's only growing more beautiful as she gets older (have you seen the trailer for Super?, she's already looking quite stunning), she's funny as hell and has amazing comic timing which is so important for Lois I can't stress it enough, she's sympathetic, has that "everywoman" likability, obviously intelligent, she can be confident and tough, but at the same time vulnerable, and she has a sharp wit behind her eyes where you can see the wheels turning, not like so many of these dead-eyed Hollywood starlets, and even though she's tiny, you can totally imagine her steamrolling over Clark, but also blushing at Superman's attention.

The only down-side is she seems so young-looking with a natural baby-face, but if Snyder was considering Kristen Stewart and that age group, Ellen Page is the one. I guess the script just contains a younger Lois, in which case Ellen Page is absolute perfection for this. And, like I said, through a second and third movie as she gets older and more mature-looking, she'll become more and more beautiful and end up looking like the flawless image of an adult Lois Lane.

And for those worried that Cavill is too short for Superman, Ellen Page is a tiny little thing, she'll make Cavill look like a towering presence, which I know you all want.

This is it, people... this is the woman who was born to play this role at this time in history together with Henry Cavill as Superman. She's the complete package: beautiful, funny, sarcastic, snarky, sharp, likable, confident, vulnerable, real. If Snyder doesn't cast Ellen Page, he's missed it.
Very cute girl, but overall, a bit too young-looking. Kinda' gives the same vibe as Bosworth.

I agree. Too young looking, even if Snyder is going for younger. No offense to her, I thoroughly enjoy her acting.

A bit too petite, as well....again, kinda' like Bosworth. I don't think Lois has to be particularly statuesque, but perhaps a little more 'street-savvy'-ish, if you will.

I like Page but she's a 60 lb peanut and too young looking.
