Ill try it out tomorrow. Hopefully I don't screw up.

Step by step what I did to sync my iPhone from my PC to my Mac

0. Shutdown iTunes on both computers.

1. Downloaded HexEdit from SourceForge for my Mac.

2. Opened iTunes Music Library.xml with Notepad on my PC.

3. Found the line saying <key>Library Persistent ID</key><string>A56C833FD2DF2A3E</string>
(Your 16-digit code will be different. This isn't my code either, I just made it up as an example.)

4. Opened iTunes Music Library.xml on my Mac

5. Found the same line in the file I did in step 3 and made a copy of the code (for later use)

6. Typed my PC's version of the code so the Mac file now matches. Save and close.

7. Used HexEdit to open the iTunes Library file on my Mac. (Don't be scared by all the stuff you'll see, you don't have to mess with any of it.)

8. In HexEdit, do a find replace. Make sure the Matching: Hex button is selected. Type the old Mac code you copied down into Find, and replace it with the new PC code.

9. Save and close.

10. Start iTunes on you Mac and wait for it to fully boot. (Might want to shut it down and open it again to make sure the changes take effect.)

11. Plug in your iPhone. Should show up in iTunes like it does on your PC.

Now, I did have one minor problem. The first time I plugged my phone into my Mac, the phone and iTunes seemed to jam for some reason. But I just unplugged it, and they both started working fine. Plugged the phone back in, and didn't have the issue. Then just synced my purchases (apps) from the phone to iTunes (that step took the longest time).

Well, there's no way you can screw up anything on your pc because you're not changing anything on it.

And if you do screw up something on the Mac, reinstalling iTunes will probably fix anything (iTunes probably won't load, so you won't be plugging your phone in).

And if you mistype the code on your Mac, it'll ask to wipe your phone like it does now, which you can cancel. Just means you have to try again.

Thanks Wie. I'll let you know what happens when I try it out. So Far i'm really happy with it.

How do I do Step 5? I don't know where to find the iTunes Music Library on the Mac.

edit: nevermind, found it

One thing minor that happened with my phone, I think because of this.

When I transferred all my apps to my Mac, they were all selected. Which makes sense, since they were all the apps on my phone.

When I linked back up to my PC, all the applications I owned were selected, not just those already on my phone. Just a bit of a nuisance to deselect all the apps I don't want. Probably not an issue since I only plan to sync apps on my PC.

I just tried this, and messed something up. It didn't work, and I tried to sync with the PC, and all my Apps reset. I was keeping track of my Bank Accounts with Budget, and it all erased. So, I might as well just start over anyway. :(

If you want to keep track of your bank accounts and stuff, I suggest Mint.com Love that site, and their app is blissfully simple.

Yeah, I thought about that, I've just been using Balance since August. I might try Mint now that Balance is wiped clean.

I just found "Transfer Purchases from iPhone" under the File tab. That would have saved a ton of headaches if I knew that was there earlier.

Skype on Mac, is it just me or is it easier on the PC?

I get messages on the PC, but nothing is popping up on the Mac, what am I doing wrong?

so here's a good question, my friend and I both have macs, and most of our friends are using PC. Odd thing happens when we try to load toastycomics.com (my friends website, shameless plug) and my friend and I are getting messages in safari and firefox that it can't connect to the server.

any idea how to fix this? I'm not up to snuff with playing around with internet settings.

I hit something trying to do a Screen Cap, now on my Dashboard I have a window of an Internet Page. I can't figure out how do delete it. Please help.

Do you have, or did you recently install/uninstall, any website blocking software like PeerGuardian? That's a common issue I've been seeing with your type of problem. I can get on that site just fine in safari.

Hey Wie, I tried to download a program from Apple, but whenever I try to open it, it opens in Text. What am I doing wrong?

What did you download, and what's the filename and extension? And what program is opening?

I'm using imovie 08 at the moment, but I don't know how to remove the sound from one clip and add it to another or have one character #1 talking then showing another characters facial expressions with character's #1 voice is overlaying that clip.

I'll PM it to you. I'm not a Computer Guy, so I don't know how to answer your questions. I think it kept opening with Text Editor.

I've only played around with iMovie HD a little. But I think you could pull this off by extracting the audio from the vid you want to hear. Then in timeline mode you can setup the video transitions over the audio, so use one audio over both vids.

That's my guess, unless I misunderstood you.

Do you know any good Gif apps for Mac? I want something so I can make my own Avatars.

I just got my Mac back from the apple store. Last monday my computer froze and when I tried to turn it back on, it stayed on the grey screen. I tried running disc repair and it said my HD was not mounted. Went in, they ran some tests and thankfully got it working again. I bought an external HD and backed everything up, I also bought Leopard (hadn't installed it yet) for Time Machine. The install of leopard failed and it lost the HD again.

So I brought it in on Tuesday and they gave me a new hard drive and installed Leopard on it and I finally got it back today (2 days earlier then they said I would). Hopefully all is good now.

Just got back from the Apple Store with my MBP. The Logic Board and HDD were failing and was (luckily) in the warranty. Otherwise, it would have cost me over $1,500...

Here's the story...

On Feburary 12th I came home to boot up my computer as usual when I noticed something funny. The internal display wouldn't turn on. I heard the disc drive turning on, and the LED's on the caps lock and num lock worked. So naturally, I was scared since I haven't had a backup in a while.

I called Apple and they had me run through basically the same things. I reset the PRAM and other various things and nothing worked. At last, I decided that I should bring it in to Apple for repairs. For some completely random reason, it started up again and I copied all of my important files. I never shut it off until the 27th.

So I decided it shut it off since it was running for over two weeks. I shut it down and it never turned back on. Went to the Apple Store on Saturday to do a quick drop and it was done on Tuesday at around 7:00. Not bad. Replaced the HD since they said it was making weird noises and now runs smoothly.
I was just wondering something about Time Machine...

I already use a 500gb external drive to use for rendering and capturing in FCE. Can I also use this drive as a Time Machine drive? Like, theoretically, make a folder and set it to backup there? I don't want to get another hard drive and the 500 is way enough to use for backups.

That's a great question, I was wondering how to use the Time Machine and I haven't read up on it yet. Do I use and External Hard Drive to Back up?

(I'm sure computer illiterate)
