The Official Metal Gear Thread - Part 1

Agreed. Doesn't make sense to reboot the thing with as much transparency as they've allowed, only to kill it. Again. The website update and Robocop-esque videos suggest it's gearing up pretty well.

Then again, when Konami and Kojima Productions caused a hype-machine before announcing Rising for the first time...they got leveled with criticism for "over hyping" and "manufacturing excitement".

Kojima does have **** to do, though. I would wager he's not entirely in charge of Rising.

He can't be. He's in charge of the yet to be announced MGS game.

Oh I would bet Kojima sees the guys making this once, maybe twice a week and just goes "Yep, okay."

He'd have a lot of say in the story, no doubt (though my guess is cutscenes here won't be anything near the length of a regular Metal Gear), but I'm sure he knows who the experts are when it comes to third person fighters.

He has a reputation for being so demanding and hands on, something I saw in the MGS4 Documentary...and unless he's there with them in the trenches everyday...it's hard for me to hold him responsible. Atleast, entirely responsible.

Knowing what I do about Kojima, he's probably being that way with the current MGS project he's on. Sure, he could probably juggle that and another project. Maybe even more.

But, the transparency they've had with Rising does make it look like the project is entirely in the hands of Platinum Games.

I totally agree with you, UK. Him seeing them a few times a week to see how things are going is probably accurate.

Yeah. If you read Kojima's Twitter you know he's really busy with "Project Ogre", and not only that, but he does lots of interviews and has a lot of meetings with toy and other merchandise manufacturers to inspect and sign off on designs and whatnot.

Just wondering. Am I the only one who hopes 'Project Ogre' isn't Metal Gear related? I love MG, but I really want to see something else from him.

Though I'm not saying I don't want to see another Metal Gear, I would hope that it's set after MGS4 with a new story (I mean the main series, not Rising).

Also, while I liked the Rising trailer, I didn't like some aspects of it. I liked that they harked back to Jack's past with Solidus, but I thought the guy standing in for him physically was a bit miscast. It was the clothing and the actor not being as big as perhaps he should have been, it made him look like just a cosplayer. Though saying that the trailer overall doesn't look like it has that much of a budget.

Well, I'm pretty sure Kojima said that Project Ogre wasn't a Metal Gear game, and yet everything we've seen of it points to it being just that...

That's Kojima's line with every MG game. "Oh, this new game I'm working on TOTALLY isn't Metal Gear."

A few months go by...

"Ok guys, I was joking. It was TOTALLY Metal Gear."

Even Ogre sounds like a Metal Gear to me... Metal Gear Rex, Ray, Ogre.

Well, I guess the difference this time was that he said Ogre was a completely separate project that they were going to work on before the next Metal Gear.

I'm just at the point where I don't believe anything Kojima says. In a totally good way though.

I thought this was amusing, it's taken from a strategy guide for the first MGS.

The bottom pic is a sharper version of the lower text.

So Jack has somewhat biotic organs? Makes sense, though I guess he doesn't have any kidneys to dialyze his blood.

That bottom pic has me at a loss.

Raiden was a child soldier, perhaps it's a drawing from another or something.

You've actually given me an idea, what if the main villain/antagonist of rising is another member of Jack's small boy unit, likewise gone through brainwashing and then cybernetic enhancement later in life. Perhaps the enemy cyborg from the trailer?

Cool idea, but the cyborg from the trailer is Vamp.

I don't think it's confirmed, but who else in the Metal Gear universe looks like Vamp and has a bullet hole scar on his forehead?

And it yes, it would be awesome. :o

I think it'll just be another doppleganger. Metal Gear likes them, from the trailer, it didn't sound like that guy was Vamp, also, he has a blade scar, not a bullet scar iirc.

Ugh. The description processes going soooooo slooooow. And it will probably have to go through at least one more cycle if not two or more before we get any kind of payoff from this "make it right" thing.

Its really awesome that they are delving into Raiden's past especially in regards to Solidus (who is one of my favourite characters in the series and a severely underrated one in my opinion). While the gameplay hasn't totally won me over yet, the hints at the story have made me quite interested to see more.

Agreed, more Solidus the better
He was like Liquid, except....not insane.

My only complaint about the story of MGS 2 was that it was not long enough, or that MGS 4 came straight after. They should have had a game that focused on Snake truly being caught in the middle Solidus and Liquid and that should have began the worldwide war economy.
