Because there is absolutely nothing from SR that I want to see continued in the next film. I didn't care about any of the characters or storylines set up. If Singer were to continue, he would be playing off what he set up, which I don't care for, even if he were to bring in Darkseid, Braniac, etc...

You didn't want to see Superman in the sequel?

You didn't care that they could bring to life a all new villain with the technology today?

You didn't care that little Jason, the actor, would be out of work if you didn't want this film?

Shame on you.

Who is to say that Singer didn't have the perfect Superman film with the sequel?

Absolutely nothing is known in story detail about the sequel.

We're all getting ahead of ourselves here.

When millions of dollars and the dreams of millions are on the line I'm afraid a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Singer should have made the perfect Superman movie the first time. He had more money than most of the huge blockbusters and his movie didn't have giant robots or space ship battles. I can't excuse him wasting all that money on a lack luster Superman film about "Old Boyfriends Returning" as he put it.

This isn't baseball you can't bank on second chances in the movie biz. It's one strike and you're out because who is to say the studio wants to back your losing horse again? It's a raw deal, but that's how it is and Singer should have known better than to treat Superman as his private property and used more of the source material that made the character cool to begin with.

Now unfortunately for him he is reaping the bitter harvest of that which he has sowed. :csad:

I really think they screwed up on the last film because of Singer. He was trying to make his film and they obviously didn't see it that way. But, they stood by him and a took a lot of crowd beating for it.

i agree with this. Its not really fair to blame the writers because the story just sucked, which was the director's fault. if anything, i think they did a good job with a piece of crap concept.

Considering Singer said that he was going all "wrath of Khan" with the sequel, it's a shame we'll never see the light of what they were thinking of. (You have to admit though, that airplane sequence was one of the best ever filmed). :hyper:

i do wish to see the "wrath of kahn" sequel. but in all honesty, if the plane sequence (which i thought was amazing) was the best action of the superman movie, then unfortunately, it isn't much of a movie.

My feelings Exactly! Its sorta like Heroes...every week I care about the characters and Tonight I will be watching this episode because I care about the story lines and where they are going! In Superman returns, there isn't one thing I want to see more of.

Not More of Lex Lackluster, or Lois Lame and her Maury baby mama drama, or Superman feeling sad and alone. None of it. What he set up is utterly unappealing to me and tossing in an arbitrary physical villain isn't enough to change that.

You didn't want to see Superman in the sequel?

Not Singer's Superman.

You didn't care that they could bring to life a all new villain with the technology today?

Eh, it would still be grounded in Singer's world so I couldn't get totally excited.

You didn't care that little Jason, the actor, would be out of work if you didn't want this film?

LOL, ok, you got me there. We'll find something for Tristan in the new franchise, just not as Superman's son. :yay:

Whether a movie is considered "good" or "bad" is strictly in the mind of the individual.

But either millions of dollars or giant robots mean a good movie.

Whether a movie is considered "good" or "bad" is strictly in the mind of the individual.

Exactly, not in the number of people wanting to see a sequel.

The studio cares about making money, especially with a sumemr blockbuster, Superman Returns did not make enough money for WB, the executives are quoted as feeling this way. Sure some of them are quoted as saying they liked the movie, but liking a movie doesn't keep you in positions of high power. Being able to step away and not catch feelings when evaluating your business propositions is what keeps you on the throne.

Since I am not an executive I only care for a good movie, not thrones or other people's money.

The only anticipation for the sequel for Batman is within the minds of the fans, same with Superman Returns. Sally Housewife or Bobby the Accountant is not worrying about a seqeul or otherwise.

Right because you're a fan, like I am, but if you're an executive at a studio you have to forget about being a fan because of the bottomline. El Payaso and Showtime can say whatever they want, but they aren't running the studio. They have the numbers in front of them and that is what they are reacting too, for the good or bad.

Right because you're a fan, like I am, but if you're an executive at a studio...

I am not. *shrugs*

therefore I don't care for putting myself in their shoes and care about them wanting another carbon copy of the superhero formula with Superman in it or even worse, a JL movie.

But El Payaso, they tried a way you preferred and didn't get the results they expected. Can you blame them for going in another direction?

I agree, you shouldn't worry about it, WB isn't paying you. However, it is what it is.

The fact is, if Superman Returns had pulled in more money, we wouldn't be having this conversation. It's a sad reality.

but as a fan of what singer did dont you want a sequel to that movie? wouldnt it better to devote like 30% of the movie for the general public to get some more milions for the sequel?

Yes. They made the money back but they wanted Spiderman numbers. Now, how can I put down healthy ambition...

Can you blame them for going in another direction?

No. I'll wait until seeing JL results.

Now I can agree with you 100%.

I have said it many other times: I am more than happy with SR. One of the reasons is because such a good movie about this superhero doesn't happen every decade. It was quite possible part of the audience would be thinking "But where's the CGI punch-action sequence? we had it in Spiderman, it shpould be here too!" while watching it. So I think I was lucky more than enough having 1 good movie of Superman, since it's not the kind of things that Hollywood use to produce. Being that the case, I can't pretend they start making good movies merely because I want to. And therefore if there's no sequel, I still see the half-full glass.

ok that says it all. i wont even go deeper. you said it all.. i respect this. :woot::up:

i want always more......i am a WB boss :oldrazz:

I have to say this does bother me in the fact that I really like Mike and his writing. In the instances when I have gone back and forth with him via email or myspace he has always been very cordial and accomodating. He's a talented guy, writer, director, and a very good artist. It's not as if he will have a problem getting work or anything.

I have to say with the comment WB made about "taking pitches", I find it hard to believe that Singer would be willing to follow someone else's idea to continue his story. This story was his baby with his two writers and good friends, now he's going to move on without them and their and his ideas? I think it's only a matter of time before we hear Singer is not coming back.

So instead of getting Superman stories similar to the ones we see in the comics, we have to live with crappy rehash of the 78 film, with a bunch of BS Christ imaginery thrown in? Screw that.

I don't care if you like that crap, I didn't, Roger Ebert didn't, most of the public didn't and now the movie studio doesn't.

I would rather have a movie that actually tries to be like the comics and a sequel might do that, I would rather take a chance on a sequal than live with the boring, pretenious piece of crap that was Superman returns was.
