The Official Punisher by Rick Remender / Punisher MAX thread

I think, no matter what he does, Aaron will always come off as Ennis-lite. Ennis did some of his best work on this series, and Aaron is going to do his best to keep up with it but will just always fall short. But his first arc showed he has a grasp of the character and the characters supporting him and I'm really looking forward to Bullseye.

But is that due to it actually not being as good, or the fact we've all (deservedly) put Ennis on a pedestal?

In my case, the latter. We'll see how the arc Bullseye follows.

I think next to Victor Gischler's run on the first volume of Punisher MAX, Aaron's Kingpin arc is the best thing since Ennis left. I love how Aaron's take is a blend between the MK and MAX versions of the Punisher.

However, I think there's more potential to be seen that Aaron is giving. While I like that blend, Jason Aaron also wrote the Punisher MAX Christmas special, which was a flat out awesome story without the over the top humor. I'd like to see more of that. It sounds like we're going to though with the "Frank" arc after the Bullseye story. I think Steve Dillon may have to go, though. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE the man's work. But I think there needs to be a more serious looking artist on the title. Dillon's work just comes off as silly, sometimes/

I don't think Dillon will be on PunisherMax for too long. He's done a ton of Punisher before, just never the Max book. I agree, his work is tremendous and always on time. I for one, would like to see Gorlan Parlov and Leandro Fernandez back on the book, they both were awesome.

Gorlan Parlov might have drawn all my favorite arcs in the previous series. I thought, although a bit unrealistic when it came to the human body, his style fit the storytelling of the series very well. Leandro Fernandez was another one that fit the series. One thing that always seemed to be on par with Ennis's writing was the artwork for the series.

And although I'm not an overall fan of Howard Chaykin's style, I was actually wanting to see him work a full arc after that one issue he did for Long Cold Dark.

Doug Braithwaite was good too. I think he only was on for "Mother Russia".

Leandro Fernandez was the best out of all of them, even Dillon. He nailed exactly what PunisherMax is, a 60 yr old hulk of a man that's been through hell and back and back again. Covered in scars and wrinkles but could kick serious ass. Dillon's Castle is a little too clean cut. He's still awesome though.

I'd like to see Lawrence Campbell do another arc on The Punisher. His work has really grown on me, after seeing all his one-shot work after "Girls In White Dresses". He's really atmospheric and mean looking. Parlov would be very welcome, too.

I don't like Howard Chaykin at all though. I thought his artwork on the first chapter of Long Cold Dark ruined what was otherwise the best MAX story Ennis wrote.

Been mulling over the last interview with Remender regarding the renaming of punisher to frankencastle. I think its facinating that he wasn't consulted on this change. Why would he be excluded from this decision? I may very well be reading too much into that but I'm aware that sales are around 23,000 which isn't exactly setting the world on fire. Is changing the title from 'Punisher' to 'Frankencastle' going to increase sales? I doubt it. Certainly as a brand it isn't as recognisable. Is this a case of Remender being made to lie in the bed he has made?
Dont get me wrong I think Fear Agent is great and enjoyed Strange Girl and while the new Punisher direction is interesting and well executed it isn't really 'The Punisher'. Is this name change a precursor to the title being cancelled in the future? not as bad to cancel frankencastle as to cancel the punisher? interesting...

I just hate how all of Dillon's characters seem like they're part of the same family, shape, sizes and genders will vary but somehow they all look the same... Dillon's universe is completely monotonous and also lacks that adult look I'd expect for the MAX universe.

I think renaming the title to Frankencastle is the final nail in the coffin for the Punisher in the 616.
I like Steve Dillon's art. It has a simplicity about it that I enjoy, but it's not right for the MAX series. It was great in the Marvel Knights run, but just seems childish in the more serious MAX line. Story wise though, I am loving it.

“BULLSEYE,” PART ONE

They say he's the deadliest assassin the world has ever known. They say that once he sets his sights on someone, he never misses, no matter what he has to go through to get them. Though his methods may seem unorthodox, even insane, they say he's never failed to kill a single target. No one knows where he comes from or why he does it. No one knows his name. They all just call him Bullseye. And now he's come to New York City, with his sights set on Frank Castle. Let the hunt begin. If you thought our new MAX version of Kingpin was intense, you ain't seen nothing yet.
32 PGS./Explicit Content …$3.99

I'm looking forward to this arc, I hope that Aaron makes it good because I was very disappointed with the Bullseye vs. Punisher mini that came out a couple years ago. The way they had Bullseye humiliate Frank pissed me off. I think Bullseye and Punisher would be a great hero/villain couple.

I'm just really after old school Punisher TPB.

HELP?

Punisher Essential Vol 1 , 2 and ,3 are really good, (2 is my fav)

if you don't like black and white TPB's go for:

Punisher/ Circle of Blood hard cover (TPB)

Punisher/ Return to big nothing (GN)

Punisher/ Barbarian with a Gun (TPB)

Punisher/ War Zone Vol 1 (1992) (TPB)

All above are really good old school tales let me know what you think.....

Parlov's art started of bad on the Barracuda run , his first arc on the Punisher being not good at all, AS the punisher MAX series went on he got so much better , that he now draws a really iconic Punisher for me and is one of my favorite Punisher artists along with Fernandez and Lewis Larosa's art.....

I would love any of the three to return, Although to have have Fernandez back with this same inker and colourer that done the up is down , black is white , slavers, and man of stone arcs would be a dream come true.................

“BULLSEYE,” PART 3
Frank makes a bold choice when he decides to go after a dirty cop on the Kingpin's payroll. Having the psychotic assassin Bullseye hot on his trail is one thing, but can the Punisher hold off the entire NYPD as well?

“PAYBACK,” PART 1
Lady Gorgon, a high-ranking Hand operative, lost her stature after she failed to kill Frank Castle. Now that the Punisher has made his way to Tokyo to hunt her, she’d be lucky if her stature is all she looses. Frank’s made a list of every scumbag dumb enough to take a shot at him. If you’re on his list, you’re already dead. Let the festivities begin.
32 PGS./Parental Advisory ...$2.99

The only thing I will say about Franken-Castle is that I want a Marvel Legends figure of him.

I just wish they didn't change the name of the book to Franken-Castle. You're not gonna get new readers that way, you're just gonna scare them off. This book is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the title they're putting on the cover.

I found this thread after searching for info about thepunisher.com site that dissapeared months ago...looks like he just up and left for good:huh: Does anyone remember/have the guys email address?

Anyways I've been collecting The Punisher monthly since it was re-launched in 2000. There have been a few uninteresting stories over the past year or so, but the new relaunch has me excited again. For those who think Dillons art is kind of cartoony I agree...But at least it's not Chaykin...that one issue he did in the middle of the last Barracuda story really throws the continuity off for me.

It was microchip@ But I don't remember the domain name. I don't think it was @punisher.com It sucks that it folded. it was an awesome site.

I think that's the idea - it isn't really the punisher anymore so I dont really mind the name change but I dont think its a question of if this title will be cancelled but when the cover for frankencastle 18 stinks imho

Even if franken castle lasts an other year , its only a matter of time before it goes back to being the Punisher.......

Any body get Punisher issue 15 ? Quite liked it, But I Do look forward to what's going to happen after this Frankencastle storyline. I think Castle will get a younger cloned type body

I read it/loved it. I never thought it a trillion years that I would see Frank riding a fire breathing dragon but it was awesome. The one thing I'm not clear on is how much of his power has increased with his new body. Killing undead nazi's is one thing, but how's it gonna go when he fights Hellsgaard or Daken down the road.

As far as I am concerned, Frank will get his hands on the Bloodstone for it's healing powers so it can turn him back to human Frank, but not before he tears through the revenge list he's making in the upcoming "Payback" arc.
