The Official Punisher by Rick Remender / Punisher MAX thread

Honestly, now that the Punisher's died and come back to life, they need to take this opportunity to give Frank a fresh start. Take him back to square one and give him a sense of purpose, motivation and (*gasp*) a little sympathy. Then readers will care about him.

This I agree with , I have been reading the Punisher since the early eighties and the character , has had some great Runs and some **** ones, but Ennis in his MAX run built some much needed complexity into the character, but made Frank to be cold almost insane killer (I said almost.)

To me the Punisher is a hero (anti yes) who with no powers , and is willing too go that one step further, and kill, and in a way damned himself doing so, when other heroes are willing to let criminals walk cause they don't believe in it or don't have the guts...

Frank is doing what others won't, and he gets the **** end of the stick for it, this to me could if wrote correctly, could actually add the much needed sympathy his character needs.

Plus a returning rouges gallery that yes once in while that would get killed (it is the Punisher) would be good, giving the Punisher someone too build a much needed ongoing backstory with..

Ye see casual reader thinks Frank Castle is a wooden one note character, he's not ! go back and read Steve Grants Circle of Blood or , Return too Big Nothing and it gives you a Punisher that is really a deeply scarred person , dealing with the **** life sets before him...

I might get flamed for saying this but this is why i actually really enjoyed the 2004 Punisher film. The way the punisher was portrayed in that film imo was they way he should always be portrayed. It made the viewer care about him and feel bad for him and root for him. He was still a badass killing machine but he was much more emotionally damaged and reflective than he's portrayed in the comics nowadays. Ironically, many people look down on that movie because he wasnt the ultra-hardcore-shoot-em up Punisher that was portrayed in the books. Then when they DID do that for the Punisher War Zone movie....well we all know how that went.

WHAAAATTT ?!?!?!

Lol only joking you have a point, now if you had of said this too me say five years ago , I would have disagreed with you , but really nowdays The Punisher being as hard as nails unemotional killing machine is played out.

Now a killing Machine, with a conflicted, troubled, soul, willing to do what most won't , and the story showing not just his point of view also the people he helps, and an ongoing back story with host of characters, would be great...

Your right in the 2004 movie it does make the viewer connect with Frank cause he suffers so bad, just had a thought ! Could it be that 2004 punisher movie was ahead of it's time ?!!?? Lol

I'd say yes, it was ahead of its time heh. I support the idea of a semblance of a rogue gallery as well. In a back up story in a recent hulk book Frank fought a bunch of tech'd out mercs/gunrunners/scum called the Heartless crew. I think they have potential.

There's just so much that could actually be done with Franks character,

that if you think About it, not since his solo adventures really took off,

Only Ennis in MAX, is the writer too really go into Franks character....

I'm telling you guys, if you watch the 2004 movie again with an open mind, you'd really enjoy it. To this day i dont understand why it was so maligned. At the very least, its an above average revenge flick.

But anyway, yeah the Punisher has some serious potential if the right writer handles him the right way and doesnt solely focus on his "killing machine" aspect. If Brubaker IS writing Punisher then i think we could potentially see a brand new Frank Castle. Brubaker works very well with dark, tortured, morally ambiguous characters.

Oh yea I was agreeing with you on the 2k4 movie being good hehe. I'd love to see what Bru would bring to him. Oh, open question for any one reading. Acquired super-arsenal still around? Yay or nay?

The two main things for me as a long time fan where the fire hydrant, and all that bollocking about, and the totally unsuitable setting of sunny hot tempa bay for a trench wearing vigilante ! Lol

That aside I loved the Don Sigeal , Sergie Leone, vibe to the movie, The shoot out at the end, that the Punisher had a strong villian in JT, and that as a whole the movie worked really well...

The movie was in no way a flop, as some people think, it only cost $30 millon, ($14 million of that was JT's) and made $33 million at U.S box office and a further $20 mill global, plus with DVD sales and TV rights in the end it made over $100 million,

that's why Lion****gate went for the reboot, sequal Warzone, or as some people said the most expensive fan movie ever !

What I want too know is why could Remender not have wrote the Punisher like this from the start of his run ?!?!

PUNISHER: In The Blood # 4

Anyone else get this ?!?!?lol

This is a nasty mean Frank we are getting here ,

he is seriously bad ass, not to be ****ed With, man on a mission.

How this comic got away with the violence and not be MAX is beyond me, Lol, great issue. Great art Also by Roland Boschi.

I can't tell you any of the story cause it will spoil it ,

but trust me, it's the best issue of the series, In fact, best Remenders ever done(not difficult I know for some fans) on the character of the Punisher,

I just hope Remender can keep the pace going into the last issue.

Let's hope Henry is still around after the end of the next Issue, although judging by the next issues cover, it is not likely!

Well if you mean that the last issue is the final issue then no it didnt come out. The penultimate issue came out yesterday (ie issue 4 of 5) :oldrazz:

I hated the recent issue. Remender made Frank too much of a single minded person who is just as bad as the people he hunts down.

Can't help but think HH your not the worlds biggest Punisher fan, and if you read the comic closely you will see that Frank used mercy....

If you look closley see if you can spot it, and say why...

yeah I get that impression too...

With regards to issue 4 yeah was ok except for the daft stuff like Punisher just walking through being hit full blast with a flamethrower (wtf?) and using a knife to open four locks no problem. Its a little more bloodthirsty than previous issues but its all action and reaction no depth or subtlity. I'll not be sorry to see remender off the title. Hopefully there will be more realism and better planned action scenes in the big shots relaunch. There sould be an announcement immenently as its sceduled for June so will be in marvels next set of solicitations which means announcement within the next three weeks :woot:

also we are going to have to rename this thread / start a new one soon...

I'm not the world's biggest Punisher fan obviously (my favorites are Aquaman, Deadpool, and Superman), but I find him to be a very intriguing character when written properly. Just like with Wolverine, when written right, the Punisher can be a very fascinating character and even if you disagree with his methods he can at least make you think about them as opposed to just seeing it in black and white.

But in the case of In the Blood, he just comes off as a single minded *****ebag who isn't that intriguing.

Punishermax #11 Preview

Marvel's Comic Catalog has Punisher Max 11 out today, and its the first issue of Frank in jail. Is this what is out, or is it the issue where Bullseye and Punisher duke it out BEFORe prison?

PunisherMAX #11.

HOLY ****!!!

While the issue doesn't quite compare to the sheer depravity of the second and final Frank/Barracuda fight in Long Cold Dark, this Frank/Bullseye fight was god damn INTENSE!

And the revelation! My god, the revelation!
Frank told Maria he wanted a divorce right before she and the kids were gunned down.

This book kicked my ass. Hot damn.

In the issue I just read, you do not learn what the last thing he said was. Bullseye's wordbubble was an inaudible "whisper."

It was very very small, but I used a magnifying glass and managed to just barely make it out. Trust me. Try it yourself.

I'm going to have to take your word for it, I don't make a habit of keeping a magnifying glass beside the bed.

Zing!

I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I'm sorry... how could I not? Seriously though. Kidding. I'm sure it's massive.
