well, thats one less obstacle in the way of M.O.S.

I understand everything .
So it's 38 hours per frame. Meaning that it's pushed ILM's technology to the limit.
Great . But so did POTC 3 with the giant whirlpool and everything happening in it.
Yet Pirates cost 270 million and Transformers 150 million.
Reason for the billionth time , it's MUCH MORE DIFFICULT AND EXPENSIVE TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A HUMAN THEN A GIANT METAL ROBOT.

Can't you read everything before commenting ?
Bay shot most things in-camera. Meaning ILM had the task of creating a complex looking metal robot and insert it the plate.
ILM didn't have to animate an entire city block AND a ROBOT and HUMANS running AND big ass explosions AND car crashes in a single frame. If that would've been the case the budget would've soared well over the 200 million mark.

That is the thing with a CG superman. You can't shoot everything in camera meaning you have you have to create full virtual enviroments with fully virtual actors and objects.
To render all those stuff requires a **** load of time and money.
Just because ILM said that they spend 38 hrs to render on frame doesn't mean that they are the only studio who does that.

No you do not need to create an entire environment. I know this because I took classes in CGI, and if I can animate a character and put that character into a real environment with simple green screen, there’s no reason professional CGI artist can not do it.

Hello there! :)

I don't possess telepathy.

However it doesn't take a twelth-level intellect to deduce a number of possible reasons why certain fans say they liked it:

1. It was a Superman movie, and they, as Superman fans loved it (unconditionally in some cases).

2. Darker Superman. It was a Superman for grown-ups, with adult, relationship problems that Superman couldn't solve even with all his powers.

3. Original idea. Giving Superman a kid.

4. Retro Nostalgia. In the form of the Fleischer 'look' (soft focus, muted colours), the Donner continuity, original (non-corporate) Lex, Action Comics #1 pose.

5. Religious parallels. A messianic Superman is something that appeals to them.

6. Emo Superman. Some people were just busting for a Superman themed melodrama, its like Sex in the City crossed with ER.

Did I miss anything...?

1. I am a superman fan who waited like 20 years of a new Superman movies, and I hated SR in fact it was the most disappointing movie I ever saw.

2. Knocking up some one and leaving them with out even saying goodbye, and then becoming a stalker and a deadbeat dad, is not what I consider very mature are grown up. In fact I would consider it the opposite of anything having to do with being an Adult

3. Givign someone a kid is not that an original idea, heck it is not even the first time Superman was given a kid.

4. You may call it Retro Nostalgia; I call it lack of creativity. Also the Donner films are overrated IMO.

5. Appears to whom?

6. Yah, that’s what I wanted a Superman movie with themes form a bunch of TV shows I never watch, what a horrible idea it would be to base it of the actually comics.

Great find Showtime.

And mojo... you don't need to answer posts that are almost a year old. I think they've probably already been answered, or don't need answering (which is why this thread died anyway).

Chris Lee talks again but there's no mention of SR2.

Where does the executive producer of Tom Cruise’s upcoming film Valkyrie eat in Hawaii? Chris Lee tells all to SYT

An A-list Hollywood executive who loves good food, Chris Lee gives us the inside track on where to eat in Honolulu. A quick peek at this local boy’s hit list tells us that whether low-brow or upscale, Lee craves food prepared with heart, proving that chefs and filmmakers have a lot in common!
Hawaii-born and -raised Chris Lee’s latest project is the Tom Cruise thriller Valkyrie, based on the true story of a plot to kill Hitler. Lee serves as executive producer and is reunited with director Bryan Singer, who he worked with on Superman Returns.

What’s new?

We are finishing up Valkyrie now. It’s great and I’m really excited. It will be out in February 2009. That and (UH film) school remain my focus. The kids are doing great; we have more graduates than ever.

I always have to check out the threads where I've seen Retro post. Crazy obscure article finding ftw. Maze too.

I don't get it.

Maybe since Lee says "That (Valkyrie) and (UH film) school remain my focus. The kids are doing great; we have more graduates than ever. "

he read into it that MOS/ SR2 is not Lee's next project.

Lee is involved with MOS. That I can confirm.

I was just saying that the other poster may have read into it that MOS is not his next project not on the immediate horizon- suggesting it won't be started soon.

No I know, I was playing off what you said. It wasn't directed at you.

Hey Show, as of right now the sequel to Superman Returns is moving forward. But Steve and his writers have a reboot trilogy script put together, along with storyboards and concept art. They plan to pitch it to WB and hope they will consider it and shoot them back to back to back. I think it sounds awesome, but who knows what WB will decide to do after it's pitched to them. Do you think it's possible that WB will go for this reboot Superman trilogy instead of a sequel to Superman Returns?

Who the hell is Steve?

What does he have to do Superman on film? You've lost me.

Him and a couple of writers are writing scripts for a reboot Superman trilogy. They also have concept art and storyboards. They plan on pitching this to WB in hopes that WB chooses it over the sequel to Superman Returns. They hope WB films it back to back to back.

Steve and Infamous_Emijayne think that they only way WB can make a reboot before they lose the rights in 2013 is to film a trilogy back to back to back. The deal sounds awesome and smart, but I don't think that WB has that much faith in Superman to make three big budget Superman films at the same time.

What deal?

Does WB know they are pitching them?

I have no idea Show. I don't think so. But Infamous_Emijayne is convinced that WB will listen to the pitch and read the scripts. Basically, both her and Steve plan to stop the sequel to Superman Returns from happening. It would be hard to get rid of Singer. I don't think that he would just simply quit and walk away.
