SUPERMAN RETURNS:
Brace yourself NBA fans, another sequel will be coming to television screens near you real soon. However, this particular one will be something along the lines of "Superman Returns," featuring superstar center Dwight Howard as the Man of Steel.
A night after Howard won the Slam Dunk Contest and sent shock waves through New Orleans Arena with his Superman costume, talks are already in the works for Howard to do a Superman-themed commercial in the very near future.
Howard's representatives met with upper management leaders at adidas Sunday morning to jumpstart the brainstorming for a new shoe commercial. Howard, 22 and a first-time All-Star starter, emerged as one of adidas' top pitchmen this season along with Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, Chauncey Billups and Gilbert Arenas.
NBA Entertainment somehow ended up with Howard's Superman T-shirt and red cape after he became the first center and the tallest player ever to win the Dunk contest. Howard, who reclaimed the Superman gear on Sunday, easily outdistanced defending champion Gerald Green for the dunk crown.
Making his second consecutive All-Star appearance and his first-ever start, Howard blossomed into a full-fledged star before the eyes of the basketball world. He made all seven of his shots Sunday, five of them coming on dunks, and scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
"It was a really fun weekend for me," Howard said. "I think the whole Superman stuff and cape were a big hit. They even announced me as Dwight 'Superman' Howard. I just hope Shaq isn't mad at me for being Superman.
"I got the cape back. I'm taking it with me. I might fly beside the plane on the way back home (to Orlando)."
