^Agreed, but it seems to me like that isn't going to happen. Richard Donner's ghost will never leave this franchise. Hope I'm wrong but thats the way I see it for now.

Possible start date, filming locations, and release date discussion...

Hmm so Im feeling a christmas 2010 release?

Opening a superman movie in the same month as the hobbit is suicide for w.b. ala opening sr a week before POTCll. The two cannot coexist, and by that I mean all the buzz and hype will go to hobbit and skip right over superman. Xmas 2010 is an ideal release for superman, supes would be sooooo much better off if wb were to put hobbit in november or summer 2013.

show and jamie, any thoughts?

Hobbit might not make it, they got legal problems

Agreed.

Either way, despite just getting the official green light, I'd expect the release date of The Hobbit to get shifted around a bit.

Doesn't matter to Superman. Superman is happening.

Considering the WB is distributing both films, I don't think it's gonna be a problem.

I think by the time we ACTUALLY see the hobbit, it will be 2013 or 14, and thats coming from a huge fan of LOTR's. That thing is cursed or something.

I feel the real road-bumps wont come until they actually start shooting.

If all else, they can move Superman to November. Either way, it has to get released. On the other hand, I guess The Hobbit 'could' wait but I'm selfish and I went it out in 2012.

Most likely scenario is either Superman gets bumped up to November (It has to be out before 2013 as we heard months back and said so here, and TOLDJA said so as well - the fact that I'm linking to them is a stretch for me, people) or The Hobbit - Part I is pushed back another year to 2013. Honest to God, we were specifically told (back when we broke that Supes was hitting for December 2012) that both tentpoles would co-exist, if need be.

But something isn't adding up with this Hobbit development (still no locked down location, MGM remains penniless and still no decision on their direction but they somehow have the dough to bankroll their half?, etc.)

superman needs december box office climate more than hobbit...it would make much more sense to move hobbit, which will be a billion ww+ wherever it opens.

Agreed. I stand by my previous statement. I'd expect to see Hobbit get moved around. Superman stays.

superman needs to be realesed in 2012 correct? hobbit doesnt correct?

can both movies make enough money to make a profit in december?

Jackson has gone public and said he'd direct both Hobbit movies if they would be able to hit the dec 2012 and dec 2013 release dates. He has other commitements and if Hobbit was delayed to dec 213 and dec 2014 , it could prove to be a proble for him.

There are 2 ways you can go with this
1) the delay will happen and PJ will have to discuss with other studios about pushing back production on other flicks. It was said that he had to direct other movies but considering that he's directing Hobbit , that means that they have resolved their issues.

2) the delay CAN'T happen because PJ has set these terms. His discussion with other studios regarding projects that PJ needed to make means that as soon as he finished work on Hobbit prt 2 in nov/dec 2013 , he'll begun work on the other movies.

If the latter happens , WB will have to look for an other date to release Superman. I've said it before and i'll say it again. Having both Superman and Hobbit released in dec 2012 in 3d and IMAX 3d screens would be the dumbest thing ever for a studio. Your two biggest movies are left competing with each other.

Another release date that could possibly work for WB is November 2012. For the last years July and November have been very profitable for them . Mainly because of Potter and Nolan.
They've already set a July 2012 release date for Batman 3 and Dec 2012 is planned for Hobbit.

Edit :
Also HOBBIT IS now officially grenelit with filming beginning Feb next year.
Ans before somebody comes to me and says "Oh filming WETA will not have enough time to create all the VFX" , the guys at WETA have great respect for PJ. He can push further than any other director and they will accept it. Just watch the extras of the Return of the King dvd. They actually had less time and had to create more shots then FOTR and TTT combined. PJ was constantly changing stuff and giving them new shots to do. They managed it in the end . Given just far they've come from the LOTR to the work they've done for Avatar , WETA is more then capable of creating all thes eshots.
