WB deserves the same amount of blame of course...But, anyways, Superman should aways be released in the Summer.

SR lovers always try to find an excuse on why the movie FAILED and was A DISAPPOINTMENT not only to fans but to the GA. A 53rd opening week for the 2nd most well known popular culture icon of all time is ridiculous to say the least.

And I'm not an SR "lover". I thought it was a good and heartfelt Superman story....but by no means did I think it was great due to the obvious reasons.

Right. If you're going to blame Singer, blame WB. Wasn't STM released in December?

^Yeah and if thats the case then be done with this franchise and reboot already.

Whats done is done. All we can do now is hope for the best for the sequel.

All I have to say is that releasing SR within a WEEK of the Pirates 2 film was an IDIOTIC move.
I thought that WB had scheduled that date long before Pirates 2 had a release date. If that's the case then it's not entirely their fault, however it seems like when they (WB) found out that Pirates 2 was coming out a week or two after SR, that they would have moved the release date forwards or backwards. I don't know. All I know is that I absolutely loved SR, and as long as it was good to me, then that's all that matters.

Me too. :yay:

before sr came out, did you honestly expect that it would only make $200mil?
nobody in their right mind expected sr couldn't make 300mil domestic.

I don't know why anyone in their right mind was expecting it to substantively out perform Batman Begins let alone assume that it was going to be a Star Wars type of success.

I agree and I think all involved WB, Singer, the producers, and the new writers know what needs to be done to make a kick a$$ Superman sequel.

because when people find out that there will be no supervillain they expected at least a deytroyed metropolis with eartquakes and deestruction like in ''day after tomorrow,armageddon,ID4,....''
what did we got? smoke and dust around DP,falling glass and of course some fire under the street.

belive me noone expected this nooooooooooone.

With the type of movie they made I don't understand why WB expected those kinds of numbers... but they did, 200mil was spent on the film and 100mil in worldwide marketing.

The thing alot of my fellow so-called lovers don't like to admit is, if WB kept the movie at an acceptable 150mil budget like they did with Batman Begins the fans of the movie would be getting a sequel with everything Bryan Singer wanted. But they were so sure, as I was, that anything with the name Superman was worth a hell of alot more than 200mil at the U.S boxoffice in this special effects movie going colture. That *****ureness, arogance some might say, bit them in the ass big time. They were so sure in fact, that they put the movie up against another 200+million dollar sequel to a incredibly recieved 300 million dollar film that was/is the best saling DVD ever.

Don't get me wrong, I believe if people AKA teens got the visual effects that they expected (Supervillain battle) that it would have hurt Pirates because it came out first. But it was clear from the previews that we weren't going to see that, so a lot of people didn't show up on opening week. I actually have commended WB for not falsely advertising for the film.

In regards to the boxoffice thing though, you could say that about every disappointment or bomb. If Speed Racer had cost less than 40mil to make...not that I'm comparing anything to the bomb that is SpeedRacer.

Dammit I was pulled back into the Superman Returns forum vortex again.:csad:

An acceptable $150 million budget...the original budget for Returns was like $185 million. When everything was said and done, it went up to $204 million because of effects and the like.

Compared to Supes, Begins was a much smaller beast to contain budget-wise (i.e. it didn't require as much effects work and what not).

I was surprised that I really liked Speed Racer. :ninja: I thought it was fun and that it also had heart. Not a great flick, but not bad either. It's a shame people didn't give it a chance.

So, I read you already saw TIH, Spidey? Did you like it? How do you think it's going to do?

The fact is they overspent on the film. I don't know one starting movie in a franchise that has had a 200+mil budget. Spider-Man cost 140mil to make and actually had a Supervillain battle and according to all reports Iron Man didn't cost 200+mil to make. There was a 186mil number that was thrown around early on but now they are saying 150mil. Doesn't matter if that early number is true because the movie would still be a raving success. The first Hulk movie didn't cost 200mil and neither did the reboot. Believe me I've seen TIH and it looks very expensive, especially the over 15 minute end battle. Superman isn't more special than those effects heavy characters, the movie could have cost well under 200mil to make.

Lets look at a non comicbook movie:

Curse of the Black Pearl cost 140mil to make and looked amazing at the time and still does.

Warner Brothers did not have to spend 200mil on there first movie in a restart of the Superman Franchise. They wanted to. All of these special effects movies go over budget, so you better believe they knew that they were spending 200mil on it. It wasn't an accident, they knew they were spending an unprecidented amount on a non sequel or a sequel to a moderen film...with different actors... and a different director. So even though it was a sort of sequel it wasn't going to be treated as such.

To a degree this is all monday morning quarterbacking but it was incredibly risky to spend that much on a non sequel with no fights. A movie thats more of a (bad) drama than an adventure.

I completely do not subscribe to the theory that a Superman movie can't cost under 200mil or even 185mil to make, inflation hasn't got that out of control...yet. I mean what is a sequel with more overt visual effects going to cost if this movie had to cost over 200mil? It's seems like an impossible feat to lower the budget by 30mil like the studio is saying. It's there progative to spend that much on a first in a precieved franchise but it didn't have to happen.

I believe that a sequel will come out but it won't cost less than 230mil to make. If it costs under 230mil to make I will be a little surprised, under 200mil I will be shocked.

Oh boy I've said this same thing before but I just felt the need to say it again.

I liked it.

I still think that it will open lower than the first movie but I'm starting to get nervous about my bet because the movie is so much fun that it's bound to have better legs than the first one. It doesn't top Iron Man for me but the end battle alone should give the movie better word of mouth than the first one. The audience seemed receptive. If the movie opens with more than 50mil I'm 90percent sure that my bet will be lost. I'm going to predict 45mil opening 125mil close but I'd be okay if I lost my bet because I didn't dislike it...eventhough I don't want to because I like being right.:oldrazz:

I'm so confused.:csad:

THe funny thing is that SR doesn`t look like a 200 million dollars movie...It has some terrible CG shots...lousy action...The only thing worth the money is the plane sequence and the Daily Planet set.

Read it, thanks. I'm not seeing it, not my thing.

If the sequel doesn't happen by 2010 the next Supe film we'll see is a reboot or Justice League... which could very well be by 2015.

I liked Speed Racer quite a bit myself, too. I wanted to watch it a second time but time didn't allow. :csad:

I tend to agree with that sentiment. If MOS doesn't come out by 2010, then expect the next solo Supes film to be a reboot. Singer and whoever writes MOS should introduce J'onn/MM in MOS to leave hints at a JL film. Use the MOS story as a lead in to the JL film.

When they said MOS would be out in 2009 I thought that was torture waitin for it. Now god only knows when its coming out... and that sucks.

She needs to put some of that energy into something else. Again it's fun to complain on a message board but taking this too seriously is silly. Sometimes I'm guilty of that, but at the end of the day I'm not going to die if I never see LexCorp Luthor, or a spunky adult Lois Lane or a huge Superman vs. Superpowered villian battle.

I agree. While I can understand lot of fans really have passion for characters they care about, but sometime most can go too overboard that it's not healthy or become a disturbing obsession. Why not Emi or her sheeps use some money (if they are using some for the SaveSuperman.com) or the stuffed monkeys for charites? I believe in giving something to kids who need help. If Emi gave me the monkey, I would give it a sick kid in a hospital or something than giving it to WB to listen.
