The Official Superman Casting & Discussion Thread

Well, I didn't post it because I like Porter for the role or that I love the site, just seemed appropriate to post it here.

You know, I pray it's not him.

Is there any chance we can get the mafia to put a hit out on **************/resources ?

Intentionally spreading 100% false information is lame as ****.

These assclowns should be shot.

I'm not supporting him for the part but I'd bet that if Porter was the new Superman he could win over a fair amount of posters here. Besides, he has to be Flash

The article states it is a rumor. Someone claims they got a text from a friend of WB. Take with like a grain of salt. No need to get all out of whack about it. CBM does put out a lot of exclusive and reliable information.

...and God no to another small actor to play the Man of Steel.

i only pay attention to Poni and DCMarvel_Freshman....the other "fan sites" i ignore cuz they have no credibility whereas Poni and freshman have some.

I suppose there could be worse...

Dunno who made this, but it was on google...

Still, they could do way way better, and he doesn't strike me as something the Nolan's would go for.

^Too late, besides, I like Evans as Cap

I doubt it, he's only 5'11... 6 on a 'good day' according to him.

I'm sure he'd try but can you really see Superman here? Or any potential?

I see Flash.

Not to mention this old interview where he praises Routh but also calls to attention the HIGH expectations that fans have for Superman casting:

This guy certainly makes his case regarding his credibility. Maybe the Zach Levis and Scott Porters' of the world, are secretly auditioning for the Flash or Aquaman roles, and NOT for Superman?

Anyways, here is an interesting post below that was posted on the GL Forums:

Considering how much some of the WB suits keep an eye out for my articles (I've had over 25 pictures and movie details removed from the web), I feel more comfortable sharing this on a messageboard.

It appears the majority of commentators didn't actually read the entire article, so let me repost it here:

Several weeks ago, Warner Bros announced they are planning on fill the gap left by the culmination of the Harry Potter franchise with DC superhero films. With Green Lantern due out in theaters next summer, along with the third installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and a rebooted Superman film the following year, fans were beginning to wonder how soon it would be before these heroes came together into one ensemble movie. Now we're a few steps closer.

A Justice League of America film has been given the tentative green light by Warner Bros. Though the film is still in it's very, very early stages (no script has been officially worked on, but the basic plot is outlined), actors are quietly being pursued to test for the roles. The big surprise is the current team roster: Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. That's right, folks, no Superman or Batman; at least not yet. The film will be used to introduce Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter to general audiences. Both Green Lantern and The Flash movies would have already been released in theaters, so there would be no need to delve into their origins. Either Superman or Batman, or both, could eventually make their way into the script; though at this time the studio is slowly moving forward without their inclusion. Several comics series, including the team's first outing in The Brave and the Bold, have worked quite well without Batman and Superman as a part of the initial team.

With the role of Green Lantern already taken by actor Ryan Reynolds, four slots are waiting to be filled. Can a JLA film meet the expectations of fans, and gain general audience approval, without the inclusion of DC Comics' "big two" heroes? Fans will have to wait and see.

Now that you've read it, you'll see that nowhere in the article does it say that Supes or Bats WON'T be in the film; only that DC/WB are currently (and quietly) looking at their casting and directorial options for JLA outside of those two characters. Since the Batman trilogy is so successful on it's own, and they have high hopes for the Superman one being planned, they are simply fostering the idea that the first JLA movie can work without those two as central characters if for whatever reason they can't be included. Remember, DC does not and will not follow the same strategy of Marvel. That means we should expect several of the JLA members to have their origins explained in the ensemble film (ala New Frontier).

For those of you who believe Martin Campbell issued a statement saying Green Lantern has nothing to do with a future Justice League movie, you're a bit wrong. Here's the actual quote:

There's a lot of talk that this might build up to a "Justice League” movie – does that affect your choices at all?
No, not at all. I think we stand absolutely on our own and we stand as our own superhero, our own story. And a terrific story it is.

There's also a lot of confusion as to the rumor GL2 will begin production before the first hits theaters. Allow me to clarify:

The rumor came from BleedingCool.com, who "appear to have been schmoozing with some of the movie's production crew around the New Orleans bars." This was their statement:

"...the word is that shooting on Green Lantern 2 is scheduled to begin before the first movie is even released.

So confident of a smash are Warner Bros, that they already making big plans to use current shooting location New Orleans as a stand-in for DC’s Coast City in the sequel, which will be announced for either a Summer or Christmas 2012 release, depending on where the Flash movie fits in.

And if the first film does the megabucks they are expecting, then Warners will greenlight a third Green Lantern movie to be shot back to back with the second, for release in 2013. "

From what I know, this is by no means true.

- The first draft script for the sequel is due in November of this year.

- Filming for the sequel will not be green lit until the first film is released internationally.

- Ryan Reynolds is booked up through September of next year at the very earliest. His next projects immediately after GL are The Change-Up, The Croods and R.I.P.D. He's also involved in Motorcade and Most Wanted. Not to mention Deadpool.

Now, in Geoff Johns' last convention interview before SDCC he said that there WOULD be some JLA movie related happenings at SDCC. There was no talk about the film besides the repetitive denial statements. What's curious to me is that one of the DC SDCC exclusives happened to be this item, which was a homage to The Brave and the Bold issue 328; the first assemblage of the JLA:

The other thing I've noticed being questioned is the credibility of this information. Now, I'm not here to convince anyone that my sources are viable, that's for you to individually consider. But for those of you unaware of my scoops, I'd advise you to check out my news feed:

In the 9 months I've been contributing to CBM, I've had over 40 exclusives regarding WB comic movies (and at least 15 for Marvel), and not one has proven false; the most important being the official Green Lantern synopsis. I am not **************, and therefore don't feel the need to justify all the information posted there, I'm simply a journalist who contributes to the site.

Hope that helped.

I'm glad you have those kinds of connections, you should easily be able to get a comment on this info then. If I had sources that were willing to go on record with their names and studio positions for these kinds of tidbits it would surely make life easier. But I role with what I have that I deem to be valid.

Unfortunately, the best stuff I get in is stuff I can't post. For example, I have official images of several Green Lantern Corps members for the film. I can't release them just yet without getting one of my sources in trouble.

^^^^^^
The same goes for others who have "sources". No one can release the names of the alleged sources due to them getting in trouble.

What I have heard about the JL film meshes what you have heard. It's slowly being developed. However from what I have heard, instead of having a sequel to Nolans' Superman Reboot due to be released during December 2012, the JL film will be kind of considered the sequel to the Nolan Superman film.

Therefore if that does wind up being the case.....Superman will definitely be in the JL film.

at this point, all this talk can mean nothing because anything can happen and the release.

Especially when I think the solo DC movies are more important.

I'm confused, what does the Porter story have to do with the JL story you're pointing to above?

The Porter rumor isn't from one of Multi's articles. It was posted by some fan on the CBM site.

Multi's sources are almost always very reliable. Not unlike what I have seen of Showtime's comments here, he has sources inside WB, but can't talk about who those sources are when he says something will or won't happen. The same goes for Multi.

So in a nutshell, whats the status of Superman/Batman in the JLA movie?

According to the book of Showtime that is.

Like I said in the other thread, NO WAY W.b. would make a JL film without having their two heaviest hitters in it.

^I hope your right.
I'm picturing a scene where The JLA is overpowered by Amanda Wallers(Angela Basset) manufactured creature The General(Ed Harris). GL is about to be crushed by him when a hand with blue sleeves says "This ENDS now!" Then it is revealed to be Superman who then promptly beats the creature down. After this reveal,it shows Amanda Waller who is escaping via armored vehicle, then Batman lands on the windshield of the car. He knocks out the driver and takes Waller into custody. The movie ends with The Flash painting the \S/ and Bat symbols on two different chairs that are placed around a meeting table in a satellite hovering over Earth.

Nothing really....but Porters' name has been tossed around as either a potential Superman candidate or more than likely (at least from what I have heard in the past) as The Flash.

Plus you have also mentioned plenty of times before, that certain peeps at WB's apparently like Porter.

I hope they don't make this movie at all. I hope it fails.

Just make good films with the solo characters. Why reduce the greatest and first superheroes ever to SUPPORTING CAST MEMBERS?!

Look, it's fun to see DCU characters together on the screen, but it's a cheap thrill if there's any risk at all that the solo films will suffer a loss of individual integrity or quality.

I mean, can you imagine if The Dark Knight was a hype machine for JLA like Iron Man 2 was for Avengers?

Yuck.

I hope Marvel drops the ball with their All-in-one-basket Avengers Movie strategy in time to spare DC the same fate.

And may these plans for JLA fail like the previous crapfest that was to be JLA Mortal (that title says it all!).

Just make solo films that rock like the Bat-Films, and all will be right with the world.

Thomas Gibson from Criminal Minds could make a good Jor-El
